You didnt mention that the cooling splitter only connects from one side towards the firing piece. This gave me quite a headache when I first started playing with APS, starting at the turret base building up, placing the firing piece almost last and nothing is connected.
@momparty

This frustrates me to no end. Having to work both forewards and backwards just doesn't seem... practical. The only good way to do it involves literal exploits- placing them down the way you want and then REPLACING them later to make them fit in a way in which the game DOES NOT WANT YOU TO DO (IE putting a splitter blunt side down on the bottom of the turret to snake coils in a 3 way split) Like its fine, most people get how to do it and it -works- but if it won't let you place it down in that orientation without having to force replace it it feels almost exploity.

Description is 100% accurate :D Since the stable hit I have been playing for about an hour. And my experience so far: The game went to shit. The biggest problem is the armour. APS was the 'Armor Busting' setup, it could dish out insane amounts of damage for a low cost, yet it wasnt nearly as reliable as energy weapons and it had many weaknesses (very explody, range limited, shields fucked it etc). It was an incredibly effective counter to battleships and smaller ships while it wasnt effective against a lot of different flier types due to you having to sacrifice huge amount of warheads for enough casings and to counter subs you needed supercavitation which fairly dropped your warhead packing. There were many problems with the system, but it was balanced since it wasnt as ammo efficient and non exploding as CRAMs, they werent as reliable as lasers and PACs and they werent ultra high alpha specialists like missiles BUT NOW, APSs are very VERY expensive and their dps is crap. They got an alpha increase, but now you would realistically use missiles much more often, missiles have much higher alpha damage, similar dps and now pretty similar cost. They also got velocity buff but again, if you want to counter aircrafts you would want to use missiles or lasers OR PACs. But maybe, their alpha is good against battleships now, right? NO. CRAMs will do a better job if you set up your detection properly. So really, you no longer have that low cost armor busting weaponry. ARMOR is essentially buffed now, and with something like 2 layers of metal 2 layer of heavy 1 layer of space and one layer of any armour you are pretty much invincible, there is just not enough DPS among ANY of the faction crafts to put a dent in you, no kidding (try it yourself if you dont believe). So really, armor is buffed, the most complex weapon in the game is nerfed and shields are nerfed, really this update encouraged noob builds. I dont want to cause a shit storm in the comments, but I really have to say this and ask: What is your complete, raw and unfiltered opinion on all of this?
@BorderWise12
@BorderWise12 4 жыл бұрын
Interesting comment! Since you asked, here's my opinion on it: APS wasn't balanced. It was far and away the most versatile and best overall weapon system in the game. There's almost nothing a simple weapon, missile or CRAM could do that an Advanced Cannon couldn't concievably do better: DPS, armour busting, accuracy, effective damage for cost and so on. Shields were impenetrable against certain shell types but completely useless against others, which included the meta triple salvo of Disruptor, HEAT and HESH. The only time you'd need to lay aside the APS was to use hitscan weapons (lasers and PAC) or the odd missile to hit craft that were too fast or evasive for guns to catch. The game and APS wasn't balanced, it was in a stagnant rut. That being said: the new update is not perfect. The relationship between pure kinetic shells and reflect shields has been broken and neither of them have any dedicated purpose anymore. Kinetic damage is too low, shields are too unreliable and the Disruptor/HEAT/HESH meta salvo has been strengthened rather than weakened. The nerf to kinetics and the higher cost of APS components also makes it harder to use them on small or starter craft, which otherwise would be an ideal advantage for them. That all being said: I'm glad not to be at the mercy of frag-spam anymore. And I invented a sabot-timed-frag shell the other day that works decently but definitely wouldn't have worked before the update. More variety is nice. 😁 APS isn't dead, not quite. But it's definitely not what we got used to in the past few years.
@xmm8299
@xmm8299 4 жыл бұрын
@@BorderWise12 I am very glad that you told me your opinion and your perspective of the whole thing :D But, I would like to tell you one more thing: APS was definitely the most versatile weapon system, but a single APS cannon with single set ammunition wasnt quite versatile at all. Of course, there were always all rounder shells and all rounder cannon designs, but generally they werent really all that versatile as single weapons. They, however, were easily modificable and adjustable and possibilities with them were ENDLESS, and that was really a part of the fun as well. Also, you say that there were OP shell designs, and I completely agree, I mean, before the update I had a 1,7k resource total dual 100mm 7 beltfed each autoloader minigun turret with three clips on each loader that could wipe out the entire Crossbones while facing it front wise in less then a minute just because the thing was using 100mm HESH shell with 4 HE warheads, a Squash head, a tracer and 4 casings, yeah, there were stupidly overpowered things in terms of APS, but you had a choice. You could limit yourself with what you want and what you dont want to use (I never used this dual minigun with HESH since I generally thought that it was just idiotic), so you could (in a way) balance the game yourself. Now you dont have that choice and that is what bothers me. I agree with all other points of your view, and once again I am really glad that you said them openly here :D Also, thing that I forgot to mention, one GREAT thing about the update are CRAMs, they can be used as pen depths now, and I fucking nuked Bullshark and Thyr with them! Also, off topic, first song is almost finished, I am not going to use any backing tracks however, just so there is no risk of any copyright issues, so riffs and solos will be 100% original :)

@@BorderWise12 triple barreled salvo cancer ey? they should introduce proper composite armour for it. at a heavy price tag. it would make things akin to how heat and hesh got dealt with in real life. also, what shell compositions have you discovered so far that work well since the new patch? alot of stats have changed so i'm curious what people managed to make viable.
@BorderWise12
@BorderWise12 4 жыл бұрын
@@aztekenen1 HE is pretty good from 100mm up, even with stacking penalties patched back in. HEAT and HESH are still kings of the hill. Frag is best used now in a 180 degree timed spray, and kinetics are best used to supplement other warheads. But there are some funky shells that are more viable now: HP/EMP, sabot-timed-frag, pure rail-powered guns and so on. I'll definitely be making a video about that. :)

Note that the HE scaling isn't the same as old stacking penalties. Old method was: BASE_DAMAGE * (NUMBER_OF_WARHEADS ^ 0.65) new one is: (BASE_DAMAGE * NUMBER_OF_WARHEADS )^0.8 This means that each HE warhead within the shell should be worth roughly the same, just like frag/EMP/HEAT/HESH/kinetic/whatever else. The transformation is there because small HE isn't very good against strong armor, and 10K damage with ~16m radius is more than twice as strong as 5K with ~13m.

I think the largest shell ever fired from a gun is the 7100kg shell fired from an 800mm gun. Don't know how long they were, but definitely not 8 metres long lol - more like just over 4 metres by the looks of it
@Daemonworks
@Daemonworks 4 жыл бұрын
Yup. German railway guns in ww2. Very few made, poor accuracy (though not too important for it's role), but crazy powerful. In ftd propellant is part of the shell, and in rl that's not always the case. The biggest shells mostly use separate propellant to make them easier to load. The railway gun's shells came in two types: the heavier ap rounds had a 3.6m shell, and used 250kg of propellant. The he was about 3/4 as heavy and used three times as much propellant , but can't find a length. From what I can tell, propellant was separate. Wouldn't surprise me if the total length of shell and propellant didn't work out to about 8m.

Can you make a weapon using ammo ejectors? Like say a bomber, it will damage itself so that it destroy the autoloader, and ejects all the ammo, the ammo being 500mm*8000mm rounds, no propellant, only HE. Once the bomber is over the target it ejects say 50 rounds like that, which drops down on the enemy ship.
@BorderWise12

Considering how expensive autoloaders are and how inaccurate ejected shells are, a bomber wouldn't work very well. What does work well is suicide drones using that exact method. :D

Doe I'm not entirely sure about the size of the shell fired from them, the largest Naval gun during WW II would be the 46cm/45cm Type 94 Triple barreled Naval Gun / Rifle of the Battleship Yamato, a 46 cm / 460 mm sized gun, whereas the Schwerer Gustav, the German Railway Cannon is 80 cm / 800mm gun. If you include other gun types like Mortars then the biggest gun in general would be both Mallet's mortar, a British Mortar produced during 1857 and Little David, a US one produced in 1945, Both mortars being at 91.4 cm / 914 mm sized, with the ancient Tsar Cannon at 89 cm / 890 mm size

They changed it again! So listing basically the 1.0 changes: (may be incorrect but I’m pretty sure this is what it is) More cooling shape varieties, the 3 way now connects on all sides. Recoil absorbers have the same recovery rates and larger ones are just the 1x1 built on top of each other Ammo customisers have a 4 part block now. Game now says, “only need 1 ammo intake for sustained fire” or “needs 1 ammo intake for sustained fire” (This was also ways a thing) Bore excavators aren’t a weak point, they have the same HP has a normal 1x1 barrel but not a 1x2, 3 or 4. Umm if I’m incorrect or there is another update, please tell me

Le sad, but diminishing returns does exist in here, too. Since it is Early Access, it is a risk we early testers take. I have playtested Kenshi since the alpha build days along with some other games that are so early that overhauls could happen. I recommend multi barrel when you have a low cooler count, just like IRL. Belt fed with high rof for small gauge, so probably a low caliber sabot minigun.

1. When you want to save money by not using coolers, as Kirknay said. 2. When you want as high a ROF as possible and don't mind the long reload time. 3. Hollow-Point HE/Frag has similar-if-not-as-good results to HESH, so that's an option. HEAT has no straight alternatives, but it is possible to bypass shields and armour to fry AI components by using Disruptor shells or HP/EMP. Hope that helps! :)

uh... from 34:30 on, the music is kinda demanding towards the viewers attention... especially from around 35:05 on... please either turn down the volume on such music if you really want to use it or just don't use it in the first place... but I had to watch thru almost the entire building guide about 10 time cuz it was so hard to follow what you were saying... I just wasn't able to focus because of the music...

@@BorderWise12 yes I'm sure... cuz if I turn down the volume I can't understand you anymore... and when I turn the volume back up so that you are loud enough to be understood, now the music is too loud... I'm not talking about only the music volume being to high, I meant it in comparison to the volume of your voice

@@BorderWise12 thought that would be better because then the weak part wont take out the rest of the barrel but i guess if you armor it heavy and damage does get through all that the gun is probably disabled, but on smaller aps it would be viable

1. Check the minimum accuracy setting on the gun itself. 2. Check you have sufficient barrel length. 3. Check you have enough recoil dampeners. 4. Check that your detection systems are set up correctly. 5. Make sure you craft isn't bouncing around too much and throwing off your aim.

APS are not that good. Here is why: CRAMs are more space efficient, and stronger at higher gagues. They also can be packed very effectivly, and APS cant. APS only has coolers and loaders of improvement parts, and they are not very efficient either. A 3m shell take 1 min to load. You, shortly need a bunch of loaders for decent refire rate. And here we come to part 1, CRAMs are better when larger. These have lower damage per tile than lasers as well, so they can only be used for specific tasks no other gun can perform, like HEAT or flak. However, these have higher muzzle speed than CRAMs, so thats a +. And railguns are neat too. Like 5000 shells a minute, if enough chargers are loaded. Final guns ranking: Lasers PACs Railguns CRAMs APS

I recorded it yesterday, and didn't notice a sneaky patch that the devs put out a day or two ago that changed some pretty important numbers. Basically, disregard longer shells being always better than shorter ones when using HE, flak or frag.

Why do they call “magazines” “clips”? Clips and magazines are completely different things. An American M1 form WW2 uses a “clip” A 40mm bofors also uses a “clip” while an M16 uses a “magazine” in from the depths your guns use “magazines” not “clips”.... they need to fix this issue.
