ABOUT THIS GAME
Summary:
In From the Depths you can build and take first-person command of battleships, planes, submarines, space ships, hot air balloons and more! The game is currently in alpha and contains a wide range of single player content including:
A creative mode allowing you to push your designs to the limit and ensure the total annihilation of your opponents.
A campaign waged over hundreds of islands against eight unique factions.
A Story Mode where you can (eventually!) play 15 missions as each of the eight factions - a fantastic mixture of strategy, design and wild battles! Defend your fleet against waves of enemy forces in a series of extremely tough challenges that unlock new components.
An expansive multiplayer and co-op element is planned for the coming months!
Key Features:
Design and build your fleet, fortresses and structures however you want. The alpha currently has over 400 unique components blocks, not including 29 different components for making missiles, torpedoes, depth charges and bombs.
The sky's the limit, you can equip your vehicle with - cannons, lasers, mines, bombs, missiles, torpedoes, propellers, rudders, jet engines, wings, hydrofoils, hot air balloons, anchors, fire control computers, blueprint spawners, repair bots, air pumps, automated control blocks and many, many more!
Realistic physics - every block destroyed or added affects the vehicle's functionality, physics and control. Drag, inertia tensors, buoyancy and sealed compartments are all updated based on the design of your vehicle and the damage sustained.
Be part of a fantastic community: (www.fromthedepthsgame.com/forum), with new releases made on average once a week. Community organised challenges and blueprint sharing make it an extremely friendly place to hang out!
Customisable Components:
The customisable components in From the Depths allow a unique level of engineering customisation:
- Design custom missiles, bombs, depth charges and torpedoes by combining various warheads types, fuse types, IR seekers, laser beam riders, laser designators, thrusters, navigation algorithms, fuel pods, sonar seekers, buoyancy compartments and propellers, to deliver a truly bespoke weapon.
- Design custom cannons by combining four different barrel types and lengths with autoloaders, warhead types, ammo boxes and auxiliary components to create everything from AA cannons to howitzers.
- Design custom AI by combing an AI mainframe with 'AI cards' slotted into motherboard blocks. Add radar detection, laser detection and tracking and local weapon controllers to give partial or full control to AI. Create anything from a fully AI controlled aircraft carrier to a battery powered drone.
- Design custom engines using crank shafts, cylinders, carburetors, super chargers, exhausts and fuel injectors. Electric engines, generators and chargers are also available for backup power supplies and drones.
- Similar systems exist for the creation of anti-vehicle and anti-missile lasers, as well as drills that can cut even the largest of battleships in half.
I had nothing to do with the development of this game. All rights to From the Depths belong to Brilliant Skies Limited. Please do not upload this video elsewhere without my permission.

Great video! Also, I dont have a problem making a good shell, the current big problem I see is the cost of APS, almost every component of an APS is more than 50 materials per 1m^3, which is TWICE as expensive as heavy armor, not to mention that 1m autoloaders are 200 materials each, so really for their cost you can either make God-Like CRAM cannon for ship and airship obliteration or a very powerful laser for fast target destruction or even a nice missile system for versatile demolition, and really at the moment one thing that I would really like to see is a HUGE cost reduction in APS. There are no more of these small disposable weapons that I really liked, before you could have either missiles or APSs on your small cheap planes or helis, which were a lot of fun to make and also a lot of fun to use, then the missile update hit and missiles became very expensive and ammo hungry so you could only use APSs (APS was also a VERY ammo hungry weapon type, but you could have about 3 clips per autoloader with ease and 3 clips were more than enough for one fight (assuming you had about 12 autoloaders and 5 cannons in the sky, both very manageable), so you only needed one box of ammo on your craft and reload in between battles, which was a bit boring but in the meantime I was generally either building something on the map or doing something unrelated to the game), and now, after this APS update, there are no effective throw away weapons. And yes, of course, we got a shit load of simple weapons, but lets be honest, THEY SUCK. And finally, this mostly hits people like me who really like AoTE campaign, because of the same volume limit that made me a MUCH better builder the game is unplayable right there now, since now there arent any low cost throw away weapons, you need to protect your big expensive weapons in the best possible way, but that impossible since you have only 2000 volume, and this really hits me hard, and not just me but quite a lot of people actually, even tho I know that you yourself hate volume limit tho XD

I get the feeling that the current plan is actually for all weapon systems to have a cost increase similar to what the missiles and advanced cannons have received. At the moment it seems a bit extreme, but we'll have to wait for the economy rework to really iron it all out.

Good to finally know what others called the 333mm belt fed guns! Of course I made mine fire much faster... And have four firing pieces! Longer barrels too, so they would have better accuracy. Also, you can actually make 400 and 500mm belt blasters, with certain shell designs and/or railgun propulsion instead of gunpowder! Sticking with gunpowder, there were use cases for a 500mm shell with a single charge and an HE, frag, or EMP head, and in 400mm you could make a great AA gun using a frag or flak head and timed fuse that could rapidly shred aircraft. One of my favorite tactics was to use a mix of different shell types within each firing piece's different autoloaders so each gun would alternate between flak and frag, for instance. It looks like the fuse size has changed since I designed these though, so you could actually up the gauge to 450mm or add in a base bleeder! Nice.

tip on the spam guns go for 300MM a lil less velocity but considerably less cooling need and you can fit a 4 section shell - i use them for flack so the extra slot for more boom gives a ton more damage. about 80% more damage for 315 instead of 350 velocity

It isn’t that bad it just gives APS a more realistic fire rate (and increased damage, speed and HP for compensation) Yes it kills CIWS, but over all makes the game more balanced, and makes building APS easyer, since you don’t need a calculator to build them anymore.

Just 2 HE and a squash head (Or something, even APHE could probably work well with a bit more rail draw), no cooling required into about 4 belt fed autoloaders, few railgun chargers charging maybe 2 railgun magnets and you have a small gun with moderate firerate, good damage, good speed at a very small size (and prize) for its damage output

There's a balance to be struck, to be sure. For chemical shells, a slightly longer smaller shell is better than a shorter, fatter shell. The 175mm HE gun shown in the video has better HE damage than the 300mm one for that reason.

I’ve found that long smaller gauge shells with more warheads tend to be a bit better in a lot of situations, though you might need to use a small Railgun if you want to get the speed up. Really though I’d advise you to just play around with them and see what works. I know I stuck a lot of time into creating the shells for my Flak CIWS guns just recently, and a bit of time tuning my current 475mm APHE shells (ridiculously good vs GT Airships). Just don’t be afraid to experiment and try unusual things! HEAT are so good at low gauges only because game doesn't model jet's maximum length which is around 6 times the gauge. Any HEAT shell under 50mm would be useless if that wasn't the case. And HESH should be useless against any spaced armor. I'm still waiting for ceramic armor with very high armor value and very low HP. Applique armor kinda works like that but we need full block version of it.

"Proper spaced armour". Most campaign designs are too small to have decent spaced armour. Try testing HEAT/HESH guns against some of the better user-made craft out there, and you'll find they don't work quite as well.

@@BorderWise12 I am yet to fully design a boat that can properly house it, but I've got a nice 17m turret with two rows of 6m autoloaders. It spits out decently fast shells (450 something m/s) with 3 HE for HESH and 3 for HEAT (best spot to avoid diminishing returns AFAIK) every 0.45sec. Just one of them tears through Thyrs from kilometres away. I've tried lots of different shell types, and bar HESH, this is the most polyvalent. I guess using an alternation of HEAT/HESH shorter shells in a smaller gun could work more efficiently, I've done that but good gosh is it painful to manually set every intake like in days of old.

@@rpscorp9457 Not exactly. Test = 'a procedure intended to establish the quality, performance, or reliability of something, especially before it is taken into widespread use.' Demonstration = 'an act of showing that something exists or is true by giving proof or evidence.' Or: 'a practical exhibition and explanation of how something works or is performed.' 'Testing' is what I do off-camera, because it's how I find things out. The second definition of 'demonstration' is what you see in the video, as its a practical showing of knowledge to others. Your point about my randomly picked targets for the demonstration still holds true, though. More powerful shells do need tougher targets to adequately demonstrate their power.

Some update must've happened because your frag rounds are not that effective in my games. In fact, they don't deal a whole lot of damage at all. Against the hake, the hake just keeps running up to the platform and then running away repeatedly and the frag rounds barely hit it if at all. What I have found to be effective was literally anything that does high damage when hitting a target. By that I mean 3 HE bodies and 1 head with a inertial fuse. 2mm long (60mm). It will take out a hake faster and deliver a critical direct hit.

@@BorderWise12 You have no idea how annoying it was to figure out what was causing the problem. I've figured it out thanks to the help of your laser guide video and the steam community. Long story short, I was having problems with lasers actually hitting small and fast moving targets which is odd because in your videos they were almost always hitting. There is something called averaging times for the AI sensors and I had them on default. Turning the options lower made it actually hit the target. So I go ahead and try frags again and whaddya know, the results were similar to your video with the exception of hake murder. Hakes still turn to tightly when damaged to be hit by them.

I usually set my guns to fire at the fire rate the autoloaders can take in, not how fast the clips can intake, is this an effective strategy? Edit: I also design most of my middle weight ship's guns in a dual turret fashion, seven by seven, one of the previous of those guns I made clocked in at around (I think) a shot every 3 seconds. It is 200 millimeters and rail gun assisted firing hollow point HE.

As of now every clip attached directly to an autoloader effectively counts as another autoloader, so you can count clips as loaders for calculating maximum RPM.

@@CreeperDude-cm1wv Not sure what you're trying to say. An autoloader loads twice as fast when a clip is directly attached (Then x3 faster with 2 clips, x4 with 4), so 1 autoloader + 1 clip with attached inputs has the same RPM and intake as 2 autoloaders with inputs, while also being cheaper. Basically, any clip attached directly to a loader counts as a free autoloader and you can calculate the RPM with that in mind. Ammo intakes and loaders/clips are separate calculations, and you calculate ammo intake separately from loading speed.

'Cos in FtD, 250-300mm is roughly halfway between 18mm (the smallest APS gauge) and 500mm (the largest). That's not even considering CRAMs, which start at 200mm and go all the way to 2000mm. Real life considerations take a back seat in FtD logic.
