The first time i was in italy i remember how confused i was the first time the driver started honking around every corner but i didn't think about it that much until i saw that there's literally zero room for error on those turns with other cars and especially buses around. the confusion quickly turned into amazement and admiration of these drivers who are able to handle these narrow gaps and the people there having absolutely zero problems with backing up and having order to it. i truly loved it there and even with a minibus it was extremely tight. quite a nice experience even though getting around was taking long due to the narrow roads. that's what made it special though and i will remember it forever. it might not seem special or even noteworthy to others but to me its extraordinary

Yes, the good thing is the people backing up because sometimes they don't at all, I had many arguments on italian roads with people not backing up to leave me room or people driving at 1 cm from the back of my car. I'm wondering how these drivers can handle the pressure of doing it with tourists lamenting they're late for airplane, bus, train etc, clapping at them or inciting them... I'd go postal in a 1-2 days of that kind of work

This might be an unpopular opinion but I think drivers in Italy are more skilled than in most countries. We have to face the anarchy of our cities, narrow and poorly maintained roads on a daily basis. That really makes you a more reactive and skilled driver. When I was in other countries I was surprised how much people panick when driving for situations that are the norm in Italy.

Dream on Sunshine, Italy has about 90% of the population of the UK and 180% of the road deaths ie twice as likely to die in Italy. Car drivers in the video repeatedly stopped on the inner and outer apex of the curves, the very point where a large vehicle needs to cut hardest onto the opposite lane of the road so causing the problem to be worse. As long as there was a space in front of their vehicle they just drove into it without considering if waiting where they were might be a better option to allow traffic to flow. One of the first things you learn when driving a truck or bus is to avoid passing oncoming large vehicles on a curve but, despite warning toots from the video bus, at least three other buses just blundered into oncoming traffic coming around the bend. They all think they are Ferrari Formula 1 drivers.

As a person who hates crowds - I find it terrifying. Extremely stressful drive. Not because it's so difficult to maneuver so tightly, but because you have to drive so slowly, stop so often in such hot weather. From the other hand - the challenge looks pretty cool and rewarding. So as much I hate crawling in traffic jams, this actually looks entertaining enough to compensate for that.

Reminds me of when I used to drive buses along the coast in North Norfolk UK, accept instead of really narrow roads with cliff walls you had peoples buildings, or brick walls. I spent an hour in a 500m stretch of village in "Stiffkey" and "Cley" village because of the traffic during the summer which was quite regular during that time. Sometimes we had small 28 foot buses sometimes we had 40 foot tempos. I miss those days.... sort of!
