It is truly too good. Just understand the volatility and the share price decline. One needs to manage your investments among the yield max family. This has been an exceptional income opportunity apparently not for the timid and the nonbelievers.

Steve, I like both the pathway and conversational style of your videos. When you are presenting more complex topics the pathway style is good for walking newcomers (like me) to high yield investments through a topic. The conversational style is great for less complicated topics or opinion pieces. Thanks for all you do for us!

Yield Max ETFs and the others are the real deal. Like any investment, there are always risks. So it is important to understand the risk vs. rewards of these funds. It is also very important to understand how these ETFs will perform after a significant market correction. And what is your plan after a market correction? There is no way to know what your monthly dividends will be after the next big correction. My approach will be diversification so I will have the opportunity to buy more at the bottom and or reallocation from other investments/cash. I would not want to allocate 100% of my brokerage assets into YM and other HY ETFs....but I think they are the real deal.

@SoCalStevo , What is your approach to reinvestments of dividends? To what extent are you spending all the dividends, doing direct DRIP, or pooling the dividends and reallocating as you see fit? I think you have to reinvest to some degree if you want your dividends to stay stable and or grow over time.
@scottv1977

I watched a video where they were saying the manager of Yieldmax says that you need to reinvest 2/3 of the dividend to help with the NAV and dividend payout.

I'm focused firstly on 100% return on investment, so I'm reinvesting the majority of the distributions back into YM funds. I don't direct DRIP, no benefit really, I actively reinvest. Once I grow my distributions to a level I'm satisfied with, I'll reinvest is more stable but lower yielding funds, and see how consistent the payouts will be.

Recognizing that you aren’t a financial advisor, what might you advise someone starting out in high dividend investing? For this example let’s say they are comfortable with above average risk and are already doing a lot of their own covered calls and selling puts. What do you think are appropriate percentage ranges for selling premium, buy and hold and high dividend investing for a portfolio of someone who has many years to retirement and someone with just a few years to retirement? I’m guessing you have other types of investments. Many thanks for chewing on this on and all of your great content!

Just think of how these etfs would react in a Covid like event. In my general experience,if it sounds too good to be true,it usually ends up imploding. Yieldmax is not a scam but high risk.

They would act like any other stock in a bear market. They would dip, like all the rest. But historically, all bear markets end eventually and the market trends upwards again.
@michaelgordon3241
@michaelgordon3241 Ай бұрын
@SoCalStevo not necessarily. Remember, all the downside,capped upside. Options are a form of leverage. Volatility decay is real. For example, I used to maintain a highly leveraged Etracs income etn portfolio last year. Everything was great until September and October 2023 when they started dropping 30-45% in 7 weeks. The etns I own(ed)were(are) relatively rangebound until that correction happened. They were the only ones that didn't go to 0 during Covid. If you look at the chart on SMHB, for example you can see it dropped from $16-19/share to $1.99. It's right in the prospectus they can go to 0,so at -28% from the high I cut loose. There's often a fine line between risk management and panic selling. I had no idea that after most of the etns I held went to new all time lows or near Covid lows, they would end up retesting or exceeding July 2023 highs by the end of December. On the other hand, options etfs like TSLY and OARK never recovered. TSLA might be popping today but for anyone that purchased pre-reverse split at 20/share aren't very happy. The leverage - momentum-of the upside and downside- is why the etns were able to overcome their July 2023 highs before dropping 25%+ again in January. While AMZY,APLY,MSFO,NVDY,even CONY and MSTY have all maintained their nav, I don't consider these passive income investments if you're in big. I recently purchased some MSTY and CONY, GDXY, AMDY but I have every intention of exiting after they've made their move. My other Yieldmax positions are negligible so they cant do too much damage. Some positions are worth buying,accumulating at the lows while holding high whereas others should be cut loose. I know what to sell before the usual September meltdown and what to hold. The truth is they could all become TSLYs and OARKS. I consider myself too heavily immersed in these etfs right now. Unless you understand technical analysis, you'd never know MSTR could drop another 50% and still be considered in a bull trend. How will this impact the nav with large monthly premiums coming out? What about 5 year crypto winters? I picked MSFO,AMZY,NVDY,APLY as my core Yieldmax positions because they've shown the ability to retain their nav and withstand market corrections. Even CONY and MSTY have-SO FAR -but I regard them as short term holds to collect 1 to 3 monthly options premiums and capitalize on a 20-30% move. The same goes for AMDY. The jury isn't out on GDXY. The key I think is to monitor the technicals on the underlying and if you have large positions, cut loose after the move is made. And then you have Defiance etfs like QQQy in raging bull market on a downward spiral in share price. I've decided to allocate 5% core never sell Yieldmax APLY,AMZY,NVDY,MSFO positions to boost my income to 5k to 7k/month , but I could just as easily structure my portfolio to generate 20k/month if I wanted to I know ECC will probably drop below 10 before rebounding above 10. I know OXLC will probably drop to the 4 range before it rebounds to 5.50. I prefer more share price predictability for less taxable income. I can almost guess on a single day what the price of ECC will be or SVOL. I prefer à sleep well at night portfolio-otherwise it becomes more of a job than passive income to maintain principal. There's a difference between having a dividend portfolio and living off a dividend portfolio. QQQy year to date total return is over +10%..its significantly down in share price and if you've spent the income-well you're left with less capital-not very rewarding if all the returns are spent,eating into principal,not to mention the severe underperformance compared to holding TQQQ or QQQ. I actually reduced my MSTY position because I see more potential downside before upside. I'd rather allocate a large portion of my capital to NVDL,TQQQ,UPRO,SOXL on the next dips and recover my remaining principal -forfeited profits-so that it's like Ive never spent a dime these past 2 years and I can do it in about a month or less under the right circumstances. Then, I'll eventually cut them loose-withdraw what I need to live on and buy back 15 to 22% yield cefs at their lows. 10% allocated to 3x long/inverse /leveraged Etracs income etns make the dividend portfolio sexier and can offset nav erosion
@michaelgordon3241
@michaelgordon3241 Ай бұрын
@@SoCalStevo capped upside with all the downside of the underlying =nav erosion I like my Yieldmax etfs but when it's time to cut loose its time to cut loose. Big difference between living off portfolio and letting portfolio accumulate dividends/premiums. When I'm down 30%, a monthly payment doesn't make me sleep better at night. It just makes me want to spend less Theoretically they could all become TSLYs so I keep exposure to a minimum. Some like MSFO,AMZY,NVDY,APLY are long term holds whereas AMDY,MSTY,and CONY I'm just looking for a 20-30% pop while I collect 1 to 3 monthly options premiums As far as upside, thus far BITO and EETH put YBIT to shame
