It's not a "mental health issue", specificity is important here. Either a developmental retardation or mental frustrations, could be both and more. I think Masteroogwgay has shown much better stuff for these “sigmas” to take inspiration from, like just people doing good things, saving a dog from a fire or something, but I don’t think you should label that as “sigma”, because that’s just being a good person, and I can’t think of a single normal human being that wouldn’t save a dog from a fire

@@BabyDontHearnMeNoMore I can think of millions of people who would not save several animals from unnecessary and premature death, though that conversation tends to get shut down as soon as it starts, sadly. I think it is an important one to have though. For example offering the question, why we are so obsessed with the heroic idea of saving one dog from a fire (which will probably never happen in any of our lives), when we could prevent hundreds if not thousands of unnecessary deaths right here and right now. I think ones readiness to save one specific animal in some absurd scenario where moral right and wrong is clearly labeled is not a good marker for if you're a "good person". I think your ability to choose mercy and compassion when you have literally no other incentive to do so or in fact might even be punished for doing so, is a much more important marker.

My thoughts are though, that society does not need 40 of the same jobs but jobs which are interconnected to each other, so their sum is making something greater. You're a great human. I don’t know why anybody would want to use Thomas Shelby as a role model. He’s a deeply miserable person who is successes in life do nothing to improve his overall existence, and often contribute to a deeply dysfunctional family life that makes him more miserable. Even if we put aside the PTSD and everything else, the overall dynamics of his life just seem exhausting and deeply unrewarding.

Meanwhile omega has the Greek word “mega” in it which means big, as compared to its counterpart omikron (which has the word “mikro” in it) which basically means that the o sound in omega lasts longer compared to omikron’s o sound. A true sigma/ leader whatever tf they want to call it should last longer.(haha, found a way to make a sex joke🎀) But they call the one who lasts long the worst?

@@Tremorsss saying “I need help” is one of the strongest things anyone can do, because certainly not everyone is able to swallow their own pride, hence the difference between confidence and arrogance (which these “alpha-sigma whatever) clearly don’t recognize. All it does is set one up for failure, narcissism and vanity are like ammonia and bleach. Blend them together and they create something that destroys from the inside.

It's so much worse than that. It all goes back to a study from _1947_ on what was effectively a _prison population!_ These wolves, that had been randomly thrown together after who knows what ordeals they'd already suffered, also had little to no enrichment or other humane additions to at least try to help them be as happy and healthy as possible. Of course the poor animals became violent and maladaptive! In the wild, wolf packs are just family units. The "alphas" are actually just the parents, and the "lower" ranks are their kids. Lots of affection and happiness all around. In captivity now we try to have space, privacy areas, and enrichment activities. Animals are much less self-destructive and violent. David Mech has begged publishers to stop publishing his 1970 book on his early research on wild wolves, because it's been proven wrong by subsequent research. He was one of the first to study actually wild, free wolves, and realized the old 1947 study was not at all accurate fir natural wolf behavior.

I really hope the men of our generation get the mental health help they deserve. Too long has society forced the idea that men just don’t experience emotions outside of anger. It’s caused so much damage to everyone and the results speak for themselves. Thomas Shelby's main antagonists throughout the series are different forms of Fascists and so many "sigma male" types are exactly that, UKIP or Trumpers or what have you, so the irony kills me, also, I seem to recall many times in the Peaky Blinders that Tommy completely loses his mind and screams and cries and asks questions to the air, shows genuine emotion and shite. (edit to put "sigma male" in quotations for effect)

Tbh some Sigma Males also worship Homelander.. you know the guy with anger issues and multiple breakdowns in "The boys" and you notice often he just want to be part of a "Family" or some Love from a Mother or a Father Figure. Or Walter White.. the guy that destroy his family because he was to pride to take help from others. (There was no "I need to Cook!" Just "I need to prove that i am real man!" For selfish reason) In the end his family is gone, multiple people dies and even his drug imperium failed rly hard.. in the end he was just Gustavo Fring with no brain.

Thomas Shelby is a very calm, calculating character but loses composure at times. They don't realize the depression and ptsd depicted in the film. As someone who deals with that it was refreshing to see mental health tackled in the show. From the first episode with the bro who is shot with sheep's blood to Arthur losing himself to rage and killing his boxing opponent to Tommy just breaking down throughout the series yet still surviving. Also having ptsd, anxiety and depression sucks. Hyper vigilance doesn't make you tough. It makes it hard to relax around people.

It's practically astrology and horoscopes for men, except you can only be 3 to 7 or so personality types. And the Greek letter order doesn't even make sense! And it's all based on Rudolph Schenkel's 1947 study of random wolves thrown together in small enclosure with no enrichment activities. David Mech coined the term alpha wolf off of Schenkel's study whole studying wild wolves, but later realized wild wolf packs are just _families._ Mom and dad lead, their kids grow up and help out until they're ready to go find a mate and start their own group. Mech's begged puboishers to stop printing his first book, but they keep doing it. It's done a lot of harm, including having dog owners think they need to scare their dog into submission instead of letting the dogs see us as quasi-parent figures 😥
