Coming in at $200, the Thrustmaster T150 and TMX are the cheapest force feedback wheels in the market today, and have been since their release a few years back in 2017 -. But more than 4 years later, are they any good and are they worth the $200 they retail for? Let's find out.

I saw a bunch of people saying how long they have had this wheel for so I thought I’d also vouch for it. I had my TMX for 3 years and used it about 12 hours per week which would translate to about 2000 hrs of use. Since then I’ve moved up to a Fanatec CSL elite V1.1 but the TMX did the trick and I was able to keep up with others who had better setups than me. The only shortfall was the pedals. You get use to the amount of distance you need to push the pedal to get the most out of each corner, but it will never compare to a load cell brake or even the pro version of the pedals. Also the brake pedal snapped on me at the end of my 3rd year, but some industrial strength glue fixed it up. All and all I agree that this is a great wheel set to get if your looking to get into sim racing on a budget 👍

This is my first wheel and still using it, it was a gift so not sure exactly what was paid. This wheel though is what launched me into more immersive racing and I enjoy it so much more than a controller. Once I purchased an inexpensive chair “Playseat Challenge”, the game play went up from there! A little off topic but, I found a mounting adapter from Richmotech that I can’t recommend more, so much better than the clamp and an inexpensive upgrade. Next were Load cell pedals and then a more permanent rig. Bottom line is, T150 is a great starter and I’ve had hours of enjoyment on this set. Good content my man!

I don't think you mentioned it, but one difference betwteen T150 and TMX is the rotation. TMX only goes to 900° (vs T150's 1080°). For racing games it doesn't really matter, but for something like trucking sims it might (if you want the extra realism)

I highly recommend the t3pm pedals over the T3PA pedals. They are way way better. They usually come with the t248 but work with any t series wheel including these two wheels I’m the video. The t150 with t3pm pedals you could be super fast. They use HEART magnet tech instead of potentiometers. Much more reliable and theoretically will last forever. This combo with a Th8a and yeah you have a bad ass setup. Cheers
@ColinDies
@ColinDies 2 жыл бұрын
The T300 comes that way too. It's like that because if you crank it to 100, you'll get a significant amount of signal clipping (you'll lose detail in the FFB). To my knowledge, this happens with all wheels, some being more affected than others. Thrustmaster putting it at 75% allows the user to choose what they'd prefer more of - detail or strength. Additionally... TM wheels seem to run pretty warm in general, so not running it at 100% all the time is probably better for their lifespan.

In March 2023, this wheel retails around $230. I bought it. It’s my first wheel and I do love it. I know there’s better wheels if I’m willing to spend more money. But this was around my price range. ... No offense, but you really, REALLY should have got the Pro model for just +$30 more... ($250 vs vanilla TMX's $220/$200 [which price it is depends on where exactly you're looking]). 🤷 Instead, you're now looking at a ≈$106 cost after tax (aka >3x more $$$) to do that EXACT SAME "Thrustmaster T3PA" pedal box upgrade, with its 3x VASTLY SUPERIOR metal (tops & internals) pedals w/ dramatically better feel (ESPECIALLY on the brake) and more position sensor fidelity & accuracy which the Pro model already includes right out of the box (vs the entirety plastic trash feeling 2x pedal box that the vanilla TMX comes with). Or even ≈$139 to get the even better/newer "Thrustmaster T3PM" pedal box that you should ACTUALLY get; which is basically the T3PA but with magnetic, 100% wear free Hall effect sensors for determining the pedal position vs the "inevitably WILL wear out" potentiometers in the older T3PA. And at least in this case you end up with better pedals that will last you longer than those in the T150/TMX Pro, even if the setup cost you SIGNIFICANTLY more in total. 🤷

My first Thrustmaster wheel was the T80. For $100 its "okay" it is not in any way a good sim wheel, but for simple cruises it gets the job done. It came with the all plastic pedals and after a few months the spring in the throttle broke leaving the gas pedal on the floor. After upgrading to the T150 Pro i can say the T3PA Pedals are miles better than the full plastic ones and i plan on getting the shifter and maybe a handbrake for drifting. If you are in the market for a wheel i agree with buying the pro version, the wheel and pedals will last much longer and you will have a lot more fun with it.

I have a T-150 with T3PA pedals and TH8A shifter. I’ve had it for over 3 years and it I’d say it’s at 85-90% quality still! I think the FFB is a tad worn as it makes some funny noises very seldom but I notice it. That could’ve also been my fault from driving aggressively and over powering the wheel itself which is my mistake. Anyways I’d rate my experience with it a 8/10 hands down, never over heated, never stopped working, never let me down after 3+ years. Games played, a lot of PC2 and ever other sim therefor

Ehh, I'd argue having a proper clutch pedal itself AT ALL is the more important upgrade than the included progressive stiffness/pressure brake pedal mod (to better emulate actual hydraulic brakes) w/ the T3PA pedal box (included by default w/ the T150/TMX Pro models, but can also be bought ala-carte for $99; even though you should REALLY get the newer & superior Hall effect sensor using T3PM set for $129 if you go that route), but they are both absolutely freaking GARGANTUAN upgrades vs the vanilla T150/TMX's absolutely GOD AWFUL 2x fully plastic pedal box. 🤷 With the Pro models only being +$30-$50 more expensive than the base vanilla ones ($250 for the Pro models vs $220/$200 [depending on retailer] for the base models), I simply cannot fathom why ANYONE would EVER POSSIBLY deliberately choose or recommend the SIGNIFICANTLY INFERIOR base models if they happen to know that the Pro's exist. 🤷 It's just such a MASSIVE, game-changing no-brainer upgrade for such an insanely tiny price premium.

I bought this wheel yesterday for 125 with the t3pa pedals, previously to this, I've been using my brother's t300rs and thrustmaster shifter. it's pretty decent and definitely better then a g29. only thing that's a noticeable downgrade over the t300 is the fact that it's too slow for drifting (compared to the t300rs), instead of letting the wheel slide in your hands to transition/initiate a slide you have to sort of throw it into the corner, very nice other then this

I'm pretty sure there is a reason it comes with ffb at 75%. I've had one for 2 years and recently it strayed making weird noises and it felt like it was skipping teeth while turning hard. Most likely some of the internal plastic gears had somehow gotten sheerd and it made them skip. Having owned a G29 for three years and now own a TMX (COVID locked down without my G29 so sprung for the cheapest) I have to say I prefer the G29. The TMX though lacks the noisy gears of the G29 due to its belt drive simply cannot provide FFB effects at a fine enough detail quick enough. It feels muddy in comparison and less precise. There is a constant level of friction with the TMX even when unplugged which gets in the way of the minor finer details you feel with the G29. Loosing the back end is harder to detect than the G29. This sounds bias but genuinely is just my two cents having now owned both playing on PC Raceroom, ACC and Automobilista 2 etc. Regards, Mike

@@ericswanson3150 I can't think of how to describe it, also it depends on the sim too. The sound is like a knocking on the desk, as if you tap your knuckles on it. I feel it wouldn't be genuine of me if I didn't give bad points to the Logitech also so here goes. The pedals on the logitech are prone to potentiometer dirt build up, so you might have to clean them or replace them if they flicker the brakes or throttle in game (common). The logitech gaming software can be a pain sometimes as it gets stuck in an update loop (had this twice).

T150 is my second wheel, and definitely the best I had after the T80 that Gamestop made me pay 115€ and which broke in less than a year. I bought it in 2019 during Black Friday and paid it only 135€. Well, I must say 135€ well spent, the T150 does its job greatly and until now still works flawlessly. If there's something that I don't like about this wheel is the metal screw plastic fastener that can break easily, but there are many replacements around so it's not the worst thing. Another thing that I don't like it's the FFB, for some reason, I've never been able to set it properly on my AC nor I was ever able to drift properly with this wheel. But it could be my lack of skills since I have seen people drifting with it without problems. And another thing that personally I don't like, it's the noise that the wheel makes while turning it around. Apart all of these, this wheel is perfect. If you want to get it at good price, I'd suggest you to wait for Black Friday as I did.

Worth noting, the t150 has 1080 degrees of rotation and the tmx has 900 and the tmx has one of those quick release Xbox 360 cables, so if you're shopping used know that you may need to buy one of the connectors for it.

in terms of electric motor power they both function, strong, smooth and fast from full lock to full lock , nothing wrong with the hybrid t150 , the tmx is the equivalent to the t150 in terms of power they both deliver around 2nm of torque. the difference is tmx is for xbox, if you are between the age of 14 maybe less to about 20's the t150 its going to be perfect to start. if you are planing on going one step above amateur try the t300 or the fanatec csl that setup will last you years and years and years and years and years to come basically you are not going to need more detail in the ffb than that, but if you are going all in then neither thrustmaster of loghitec are going to be your number one choice i have seen pros win with a g27 , or a t150 even a t300 my point is if you are fast driver, no matter what setup you use, your are still going to be a fast driver but if you are going full on pro those DD's are a monster nothing comes close to a direct drive.

With the base TMX just know the wheel itself will last a lot longer than the pedals. I’ve had my TMX since 2017 and the throttle pedal started to go in early 2020 ish. I have definitely got my use out of the wheel in that time, so if you are more conservative with your usage, you could make them last longer definitely. Also I was 14-15 when I got them so didn’t give them the best care. But right now the throttle is completely bust and now rely on a dodgy setup using the dpad up and down for acceleration and saving for the T248 which has the slightly better (from what I’ve heard) T3PM pedals.

@@AhmedHassan-db7weYes, the VASTLY SUPERIOR 3x metal pedal T3PA pedal box that comes with the T-150/TMX Pro models can be purchased brand new ala-carte for $99 at places like B&H (some sites have it listed for a fucking absurd $189, but you can just ignore those). But even so, it's still a much, MUCH better idea to just get one of the only +$30-$50 more expensive Pro models ($250 vs $220/$200) which already include those MASSIVELY UPGRADED pedals out of the box, right from the jump. It's just so much, MUCH cheaper than upgrading later ala-carte. 🤷 (+$30-$50 vs ≈+$106 after tax)

The RS stands for Real Shitty. I know that statement probably isn't all that clever but it its at least an honest and fitting description. I've had two and they both died insanely quick. The 1st lasted about 10 days, randomly disconnecting with more and more frequency until it just stopped turning on altogether. The 2nd one lasted around 3 hrs, or less than one full length race weekend in F1 2016. It was spewing rubber dust out the back. And towards the end of the race the game was registering the wheel doing left turns at full lock for a fraction of a second several times per lap. The dust was also very fine. So it wouldn't surprise me if that shit was the reason the one mentioned in the video caught on fire.

My T150 is broke after a year and a half and TM want $115 to fix it. The buttons on the face of the wheel can't be pressed without a ridiculous amount of bounce. In rF2 I race F1 cars, trying to shift down from 7th or 8th gear and going from 7th or 8th straight to 3rd in one paddle click, is quite jarring and upsets the car. I wouldn't recommend the T150 to anyone given my experience, but it's just what mine did I guess. I built a button box and sequential shifter until I can afford a new, better wheel

Definitely a great wheel for the price but here is what to expect if you are drifting a lot. The wheel probably won't last more than 1-2 years but you will want to upgrade by then, the rubber on the wheel will get worn down and get on your hands, you will have to throw the wheel a lot with most cars, your wheel may start having very slight play in the feedback and wobble after about 6 months to a year, the feedback is not the smoothest, and finally you will have lots of fun but you might as well save up and get a t300/tx or better if you are going to be drifting everyday.
