Tocino sausages are sweet; Longanisa is spicier. what if Cameron had said this: "I ate one Balut egg, with Chicken Feet, at a Filipino Fotluck/Potluck Farty/Party; Pork Guisantes (pork and peas), Chicken Adobo, with Bagoong (Fish (shrimp or anchovies) Sauce)." Dinaguan = Chocolate Blood Stew. former "High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens is part-Filipina/Pinay, Spanish and Chinese; she has a travel documentary about her Filipino roots, which I think is great.

I’m a Filipina American that was born in Seattle grew up in South Seattle in the 70’s & graduated from Franklin HS which was probably the most diverse HS in the country at the time. It was more cool to be Asian than any other ethnicity. The racism I experienced was when I left Seattle.

Olivia Rodrigo has always identified as Filipina-American. Why is this even a discussion? Even on all of her TV roles on Disney Channel (Bizaardvark, HSMTMTS) her parents have been Filipino. Her best friends are Asian American (her co-star from Bizaardvark, and Conan Gray (hapa). I'm confused why anyone would be questioning her Asian American / Filipina American creds.

Out of all the Asians, Filipinos ride or die for no matter what percentage they are, haha! Aunties will always remind you which celebrity is Filipino. “Did you know rob Schneider is Filipino, he’s so funny I like him” “Bruno Mars sang in Tagalog, he’s so talented” My mom will constantly remind me who is Filipino and say they are talented because they are Filipino. The way we hold it down for Filipinos is through hard representation and pride.

Filipinos always welcome other multi-race with filipino blood. Heck being a filipino is already being a multi-race, there is no pure blood in filipino unless you are from the indigenous tribe like the aetas but even them are getting mixed with other filipino. Filipinos have spanish, chinese, american, japanese, Austronesian genes in them. Also if you get famous abroad then you also get famous and widely accepted in the Philippines as a Filipino no question asked. There are filipinos all over the world and have mixed with other races and the result is a very open community for those in another country with filipino blood.

Filipino baiting is a real thing. If you are Filipino and huge fan of NBA, you've probably heard of Kai Sotto currently part of Orland Magic Summer league team. Sadly, the kid has not seen minutes in the last 3 games. In my opinion, I dont think he'll ever be good enough to be part of an NBA team even as a garbage time player. To me only reason why Magic signed him for Summer League is to get views and hype from Filipino fans as they know that my people loves validation from the Westerners especially Americans and easily persuaded and really gullible. Which is why I always try to leave comments saying that they are just using this kid and us to get more views and hype.

Us Blackapinos def have a unique experience compared to Hapas= Asian + White. This was quite the intriguing video Fung Bros. When it comes to being biracial & multiracial, it's def our prerogative as to how & when we choose to represent either side at any given moment, it's just part of each of our individual experiences. I will say mixed White + ethnic (BIPOC) ppl often have more privilege, especially if they are white presenting aka Cameron Diaz, Christina Aguilera, etc. Being a biracial minority when I see my fellow 🤍 biracials claiming their 🤎💛 sides "without doing the work" I get a little 👁 twitchy but I know I also get side-eyed by 🖤 ppl when I've chosen to rep my 🇵🇭 side (personal reasons experiences make me feel closer & more accepted w/that side). Great video & discussion!

Even Filipinos born here(aka filipino American) can't claim to be flilipino(as in from and grew up lived most of their life in the Philippines). I think the distinction needs to be determined of what it means to be Filipino vs just Filipino American. For example, I was born and raise here in the US, so I would say I can never claim to be Filipino in strict definition no matter how hard I try to emerse and embrace the culture(food, customs etc). I will always be filipino American. however, my wife came to the US when she was 30, so she is a Filipino even if she lives her in the US for the rest of her life going forward. Growing up in the Philippines the culture and customs will always be a part her. Some arguments are really about semantics and definitions which vary from person to person. Aka does filipino strictly mean living and growing up in the Philippines or does it mean just practicing some customs/good or all of them. My personal take on it is, to be "Filipino" mean coming from the Philippines and living them long term while having some bloodline from there. One can be Filipino-american or filipino-french etc if growing up outside of the country.

I've spoken to a Japanese person and he tells me that the Japanese, in general, don't accept Naomi Osaka as one of there own. Publicly, they accept her because they know the international community would chastise them if they were more honest. I believe, with no evidence of course, that the Chinese and Koreans are the same. Filipinos, for some reason, accept anyone who is part one of them honestly. As a Filipino myself and speaking to Filipinos at family gatherings, they're all pretty much are honest about that.

For me my definition of filipino baiting is non filipino influencers using filipinos for views such as doing reaction videos of filipino singers, eating at jollibee and lumpia etc. Filipinos are hooked to these contents because it was all rooted to filipino's insecurities and thirst for global validation. None of them don't fall to that definition because they have filipino ancestry. The issue is that if their experience of what they called filipino culture by eating filipino food or other shallow encounters with that culture even though not able to speak the motherland language or have never visited the country is enough or proof to claim they have connections to their heritage.

They cannot be Filipino baiting because the show is in Spanish, for a Spanish audience. They are speaking in Spanish in that documentary. Enrique Iglesias had to promote his Latino side because he wanted to capture the Latino audience. He succeeded in that, even more so than his father who was initially jealous of his son's success. The siblings were brought up by their Filipino mother because Julio Iglesias was a womanizer who had very little time to be a father to his children.

I’ve never heard of the “1 drop rule.” But I do understand what you meant. Majority of Filipinos aren’t pure Filipinos in terms of our original form, which is Malayan. I myself am the generic mixed Malayan, Spanish, Chinese (and possible aeta) blooded Filipino. Lookwise, I definitely look southeast asian.

Guys, I reckon u can make decent cheese by reacting to Filipino videos and you can claim and keep some of that Filipino gate by simply being Asian Americans more so than Cameron Diaz😂 But like said in a previous comment you can have that argument that there’s no such thing as a “full Filipino”, but when you see Filipinos proud of Bruno Mars or Enrique Iglesias, hiding the fact that they’re half it’s a bit ridiculous. However if they embrace their Filipino heritage like Jordan Clarkson, Apl de Ap and Dave Bautista then that’s you should welcome them.

I don't think the celebrities mentioned here are doing any Filipino baiting. They are recognized for their talent long before any mention of anything Filipino. I have never seen any of those clips here and I still like them. I think Filipinos are looking for any mention of their culture due to the lack of representation in Hollywood. The show ER is notorious for its lack of Filipino representation. Filipino nurses are all over America, especially in California. In my opinion, the ones that are Filipino baiting are KZfaqrs that are dependent on views from the Filipino community to make a living. But depending on how deeply they embrace the culture it can be forgivable. Some Filipino viewers from America, especially naturalized citizens, are happy to see their culture on KZfaq because they miss it. Also, there is a generation of Filipino Americans who have never been to the Philippines. They can see the culture on KZfaq but of course, nothing beats actually traveling to the Philippines and experiencing it face to face.

Which Asian are they? I. John Cho, Asian American actor who plays generic Asian character who happens to be Korean descent. II. Steven Yeun, Korean American actor who plays roles to represent Koreans and Korean Americans, learned Korean to be in Korean drama/movies, collaborated with actors and directors from Korea, and proud to sharing Korean culture i.e. K-spa culture on Conan. Jo Koy is definitely Type II...others maybe Type I? I suppose older you are, you were encouraged to assimilate into white culture whereas now adays your diversity and bilingualism is considered a strength.

It is tough being a Fil-Am that is the first American born in the family. Especially when one parent is from the Philippines and the other being from Spain. Both immigrant parents. Not one or the other community fully accepts when you only speak English. But strictly raised in a Filipino household since not growing up with the paternal parent in the picture.

Well like us Latin Americans say, I’m not from here and I’m not from there. That sums it all. Growing up being in school they would tell us to not speak Spanish. There were prob 4-5 other Latinos in my grade. So yes we were white washed. At home my parents worked all day so I would watch things in English not Spanish and because of that my Spanish was bad and the Latino side was judging calling us a no sabo kid. It’s hard being 1st gen 😂 Now that I’m mature, I have gotten better at my native side. In Latino industry you can notice people like Selena Gomez or Tekachi 69 or Jennifer Lopez get into Spanish music for clout when they are down to bring themselves back up for something better to come.

Yeah, I did not even know who Olivia Rodrigo is until I watched this vid but visually-speaking, she does "pass" as Filipino provided that there are plenty of morena-type girls in the Philippines who look like her. Probably not as good looking (unless they are a celebrity or model) but visually, she passes. Not even a question. Heck, we have chinitas and other types of girls too so she could look Chinese and might still pass. Heritage-wise, that just becomes too subjective and it's not really as simple to judge.

Anyone who has Filipino blood can claim their heritage at any point in their lives , even science won’t refute the genetic truth behind a persons bloodline, either you are or you’re not. Being Filipino has nothing to do with what you do to be one , I won’t disregard the demands by Filipinos that you are not considered one if you don’t do the work, that’s just romanticizing and emotionalizing it tho , that’s also justifiable but think about the trans issue nowadays either your born a male or female , it’s who you are genetically. And I won’t demand anything from anyone wanting to acknowledge their heritage at any point in their lives , their reasons behind it doesn’t matter to me although if you committed a crime then using your heritage or running back to the Philippines is not gonna help and if I find out I’ll turn you in without batting my long lashes. It may be unfair when someone claims their heritage only when it’s convenient but again either you are or you’re not.

With these celebrities, I reckon it's a mix of PR & genuine interest. But the way Cameron Diaz was talking - maybe she's slept with a Filipino guy in the past .. I also made a few videos on Filipino food here in London, but it's not my intention to Pinoy-bait, only to document food places. To me, it seems that the more half-assed the bait is, the more baiting it seems.

I am half Filipino and half white. I definitely identify more with my Filipino side, going to a lot of family functions growing up and joining the Filipino club at university. Tbh I've never really gotten shit for being "only" half, but that's because I love my culture and embrace it fully. I am also more Filipino presenting. I don't like when people say I'm "leaning" more into my Filipino side for personal gain because I've always been passionate about my culture. The thing about mixed Filipinos is that they'll get no attention when they are a nobody, but the entire Philippines will rave about them once they become famous. So it's a bit hypocritical. The rookie shortstop for the yankees, Anthony Volpe, is half Filipino/Italian and once Filipinos caught wind of that it was a whole big thing here in New York.
