I'd like you to do a video on how poor people can get the most nutrition dense food on the cheap. This would help starving students, low-income seniors and the disabled, the unemployed, etc. I mean assuming they can only afford a few foods, which foods should they get that would give them the biggest bang for their bucks?

Funny how people are so concerned about getting enough protein but don't give one thought to antioxidants. Athletes assume they need to chug protein after a workout (turns out carbs post workout are more important) while antioxidants consumption has been shown to have a huge impact on recovery from exercise and no one ever talks about it.

Much more convenient, cheaper, and more eco-friendly than buying individual tea bags! Aaaannnd, if you have a little dirt, many herbs are literally weeds and grow very quickly. 3.) Great topic! Not enough is being said about even moderate alcohol consumption and the damage it causes. It's like the elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about because it's so acceptable and ingrained in our culture but it is not a health food. Your example shown was of a person that had partied heavily, both smoking and drinking. Which gives most people the feeling that you're not talking about them and can be easily dismissed. What about the person that has a glass of wine or a beer or two each night? Death by moderation?

Sorry about the time in answering... I went completely vegan, added about 10% raw to my diet, stopped any processed food, no alcohol and no oil. Pretty much followed what Mic said. My doctor was unhappy when I stopped taking carbimazole and prednisone but that stuff decimates gut health, plus the weight gain from prednisone was sucking my will to live. Now, I eat healthy, exercise regularly and avoid all junk. I also watch Pick Up Limes because she is a qualified dietician and Gojiman because he talks a lot about improving gut health. This worked for me, even if you continue with your meds, change your diet. It will help.

How to ensure a high(er) intake of antioxidants throughout the day starting first thing in the morning? Well, my favourite breakfast is a Mango + Coffee! I have been known for munching on two Kohlrabi + Coffee, as well, and I do not oppose bunch of sweet juicy carrots in that breakfast antioxidant rotation either. How can that be wrong? Right!? Massaged Kale salad for lunch (google the recipe, it's divine and so simple! Just three ingredients and done in 5 minutes!), green or red Thai Curry on rice for dinner, and in between the main courses lots of fresh fruits, nuts and veggies for snacking. My skin is glowing and I can feel my telomeres elongating in divine joy!!!

I just made a big batch of soup last night in a stock pot. I put in navy beans, edamame, broccoli slaw, sliced grape tomatoes, Onion, carrots, celery, curry powder (a lot), homemade veggie stock (made from veggie cuttings). I don't usually think about what is in most of my food when I fix it. I figure I'm getting whatever I need and my labs are perfect. For breakfast I put together old-fashion oats, chopped walnuts, Hemp seeds, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, fresh golden figs, kale, and douse it with almond milk, and warm it up it the microwave. Sometimes I may add some cinnamon and nutmeg. All very yummy! When I remember to, I also add some of my homemade "ground meat" which is made up of riced cauliflower, riced mushrooms, and ground walnuts, which has been mixed together, spread onto parchment paper in a baking pan, baked at 350 for 20 minutes, stirred and baked for another 20 minutes.

I eat a pile of steamed kale alongside oatmeal with ground flax, blueberries, and cinnamon in the morning. Plus a sheet of nori. A typical eating pattern excludes greens from breakfast, but a typical eating pattern also includes meat with every meal. Upbringing and habit. My meals don’t always go as planned though - I ate a bag of Cracker Jacks for lunch yesterday.

I was also really fascinated by anti-oxidants. But I was more interested in why plants make antioxidants in the first place. Why do blueberries 🫐 have antioxidants? Is it because the blueberry plant loves us🌱❤️? No. . . Plants create antioxidants for themselves, not us. Turns out plants love light, but only visible spectrum light. They hate UV light, just like us. So they create antioxidants in response to UV damage.

Oxidative stress is required for cell signalling. Too many anti oxidants, can interfere with apoptosis. I think the compounds in the plants are not what they seem, some are pro oxidative in some tissues, but this might be why it is helpful. Green tea for example, has both anti and pro oxidative qualities. Same with curcumin. It is possible that fruits and veggies are good for us in ways we do not fully understand.

@@JohnnyCatFitz a logical assumption. But that is not how science works unfortunately. I wish things were as straightforward as most still believe. Plenty of info out there, a quick Google will reveal. On phone so can't be bothered to link. Sorry.

As someone with chronic pain working every day with management, I'd really love more information on antioxidants and how to get an efficient, balanced diet filled with antioxidants, and how antioxidants might affect chronic pain as well as stress threshold and anxiety/depression. So I'd be happy with a whole video series on antioxidants since they seem kind of difficult to understand their complexities. Thanks! Great job as always!

Hello Mic. Great video as ever. Would you consider researching the phytoestrogenic properties of plant foods? Some women of a certain age ( okay, me ) want to ingest more oestrogen to counter the distressing symptoms of the menopause. Thanks for reading and keep up the good work.

I watched a video years back about antioxidants and it said that most dietary antioxidants can only react a few times but our antioxidant enzyme system produces catalysts that can prevent oxidative damage a million times over. And they require trace minerals to function properly, so it's very important to get those in.

My suggestion for amla is to blend it with frozen blueb, tea, and some ground ginger. I don't taste it it just makes the drink a LITTLE sour, but I like sour. Nowhere near like lemon sour. Just more sour than blueberries.

Costco sells a power greens mix of kale, spinach and swiss chard. We poke the bag of greens with small holes using an ice pick and press all the air out of the bag. Then we put the deflated bag of greens in the freezer under our 20-lb. bag of ice or something else heavy for 24 hours. When frozen, we pull the greens bag out of the freezer and gently crush it to a powder, taking care not to break the bag. (That's why you want to make small holes). Then pour the frozen green powder into a gallon zip lock freezer bag. You now have fresh power greens powder to add to any meal or smoothie you desire. The greens never get slimy and they disappear into what ever you're making.

Yes amla does taste horrible! I use it in a DIY face and hair mask. But lately I manage to add 1/4 of a teaspoon to my breakfast bowl and just try to hide that terrible bitterness behind raw cacao, coconut blossom sugar and tahini. After a while you get used to it and don't wanna miss it :-)
