This video contains some snippets of a two day dinghy cruise of Southern Moreton Bay in Australia. I anchored at Macleay Island for the night and caught up with the founding members of the Tindarra Sailors group for dinner and drinks.
The next day I met up with other members of the Tindarra Sailors for a brief sail around the channel between Macleay, Lamb and Karragarra Islands. The group that included a Scruffie 16, a Jubilee, an O'day Daysailer and what I think was a Whitehall.
I launched at Point Talburpin ramp which is a rough stone ramp not really suitable for cars (I got bogged...) and retrieved not far away at Weinam Creek ramp.
Note that the sailing routes on the maps are highly indicative. I did a lot more tacks than shown!!

There is nothing like the sound of the wind in the sails and the waves on the hull.

Good on you Doug. That was a good little boat but I've moved onto something a little bigger with a cabin. Bigger and heavier is not necessarily better but it means I can get away for a few days at a time in relative comfort.

Tidal range is about 2 metres up here depending on the phase.

Great video, thanks Jason! It all looked pretty pleasant despite the launching drama. Kalliope's camp-cruising configuration looks very seamanlike and comfortable. The kookaburras were classic! Hopefully the windvane wasn't permanently impaired.

Yeah mate, a 4WD and a crew member is needed for that Talburpin boat ramp!

G'day Jason. I am Dudley's agent here in Australia. Nice videos, I have not sailed an Argie 15 (I sail a Cape Henry 21) would love to catch up with you next time I am in Qld.

Nice video! Always pleasure to watch, as I also have an Argie 15 here in Finland. I also use it in camping/cruising, but I always sleep in some island in a tent. I was wondering how long shaft that Mercury has? Currently I have used a cheap air cooled chinese outboard, but it's very noisy, and I was planning getting a water cooled 2hp engine. It has a long shaft of around 52cm. I was thinking that if a normal shaft (44cm) would do, because they're much easier to find used than long shafted. I measured the transom height on the Argie, and it was also 44cm. So then 44cm engine probably should work.

It's the mercury long shaft version. 20 inch shaft (51cm approx). You could get away with a shorter shaft but you may need to adjust the mount height. I built my Argie with 100mm higher freeboard all around so I needed the long shaft.

Hi, Jason, I'm about to start a build and would like to have a chat about you added tge 100mm and any issues fitting the 125 sails. I have all the gear off a 125 and would like to use it. I live in rockhampton, so not too far away. Thanks Keith

Hi Keith. The 125 sails fitted well. I just built the mast and boom to suit them rather than following Dudley's plans to the letter. If you have the 125 mast then you just have to work out how to mount it so the boom is at the right height. I think the 125 main is larger and the jib is smaller than Dudley's plans but I didn't notice any sail balance problems.

In terms of adding extra freeboard I simply extended the top side panel by 100mm as per the sketch below. Be aware of two things. A) it makes it much harder to climb into the boat and B) you have to rearrange the cutting plan layout because adding the extra 100mm pushes all the other pieces across the sheet further. I ended up needing an extra sheet of ply. I don't regret doing it though.

Thanks, that info appreciated. I'm going to add the extra height to keep a bit drier with our chop which is much tge same as Morten Bay.

@@user-ig7eh7dg4q One decision you need to make.....if you raise the height of the sheer line should you also raise the height of the bulkheads and seats??.......in my case I left the seats and bulkheads as per plan and what that meant is that I had a slightly higher backrest to lean against when seated. That seemed to work best. The one thing you do need to increase is the height of the transom to match the increased height of the side panels. I hope that helps. If I had my time again I would build the fully sealed side tank seats not just bench seats with space underneath. I found that I needed to reinforce the bench seats a fair bit to strengthen them up. I think tank seats would be much stronger.
