That technique will work on some locks and even a few with security pins but there's an awful lot of locks that will just not work on. You need to turn the tension wrench round so it's at the bottom and not almost obstructing the keyway. Great video and interesting too.

I bought a lock picking set for about $20 when I was 18 and have since then gotten many friends into their homes when they're locked out, it's cold, and the roommates are away. I have earned many steaks and beers with this skill.

Just saw your video on the way to try to help a friend that got locked out of their apartment. I’ve never used my lock picking set. But I got through the door in 5 seconds. This video helped so much. I was freaking out.

I am a locksmith, and most of what you said is correct. My only gripe is the way you used your tension tool, it covers up the keyhole and this is going to make picking hard and cramped. try turning it upside down to how you had it, or use top of the keyway tension. Bouncing the tension tool is also not proper but sometimes on easier locks it does work. Once you hit a schlage with spool pins you might run into trouble with the way you are tensioning. Cheers and happy picking.

This takes me back to elementary when I picked a lock with a paper clip to get to some skittles. I missed an important test and was sent to some kind of lounge next door to take it privately ''without supervision''. In that lounge were vending machines, coffee makers, a television, comfy chairs, and the famed candy closet. I finished the test early and found a dish full of paper clips and decided to try out some lock-picking like I'd seen in cartoons. I unwound the paper clip and stuck it in the hole and jammed it back and forth a few times and pointing it upwards in the lock every now and again and BAM it opened. Unfortunately I broke the lock and it wouldn't lock anymore, luckily I was never caught, though there was a school-wide lecture.

Great video. I just got a lock pick set yesterday never picked before. I watched your video and I successfully picked all 4 deadbolts in my house. And your sure rite about lock providing false sense of security.

Also to know you don't have to buy a set if you don't wanna! I made my set out of windshield wiper inserts! I cut mine using a Dremel and it's really not hard then smoothed it up with sandpaper! There is enough metal in the 2 inserts to make a few tools I made a pick, tension bar and a rake and still have loads of material over to make more!

In many, if not most, states it is illegal to own lock picks unless you are law enforcement or a locksmith. My home state is such a state. I would suggest you double check the laws in your state before carrying a pick set in your wallet.
