I got teary-eyed as well at the very end when Regan visited her Mom. Not only is it a bittersweet reunion for the two characters, but to see these two legendary actresses reprising their iconic roles after 50 years. It was just beautiful to see them both on screen together and to hear Chris call her name. I agree that it's probably the best scene in the entire movie.

The most creepiest scene is when the father asked what Angela and Catherine were doing in the woods and when Angela was explaining there are fast cuts of these demonic faces and it leaves you wondering wtf did they actually see or go through

Good things: Starts strong. The choice the dad made, the reunion between Chris and Regan. That's about it... If your making an EXORCIST movie, you need to be HUGE. The original still stands up because even today it shocks. This one the 'scares' are banal and routine like you'd see in any possession movie. The eye gouge COULD have been effective if happened to another character...why bring in a legacy character, have her had nothing to the plot and then mutilate her?? And it really, really does not flow well. Other than the dad, good actor there, we really don't care about anyone since we get no backstory.

I watched this in the cinema on realease day just to see how bad it was. I have to say your commentary had me in stitches because it was 95% exactly what I was thinking while watching it myself. Great reaction.

You know, I read an interview with Danny McBride where he said they rushed ending production on Halloween Ends so that they could start writing and production on the exorcist. To know they screwed not just one franchise up, but 2? Shame on them. What makes The Exorcist: Believer so bad is the lack of depth in the story and characters. It feels like lines are being read. It feels like there’s no reason for any of this to be happening. At least, the exposition doesn’t captivate us enough to care. I read leaks from the test screenings, and it appears the cut a major portion of the plot and lots of references to the original. Leaks said there was a subplot about 5 statues (like the Pazuzu statue in the original) You think it’s Pazuzu again possessing the girls, but it turns out Leslie Odom Jr’s chatacter finds 2 broken statues down in the sewer where the girls did the ritual, hinting that the broken statues unleashed 2 demons into the girls. Regan returns and has a monologue where she spills more plot how she went into hiding because Pazuzu still haunts her, and she’s been hunting down the remaining statues (ala Merrin at the beginning of the original). Kathryn still dies, but then the end, Regan says there are still 2 statues somewhere that need to be contained. The ending scene showed Anne Dowd’s character smiling creepy as if she has become possessed from the exorcism, like Karras in the original. Rather this would make the movie better, idk. But it at least makes more sense and gives reasoning for why some of the events in the movie happen. I feel they cut all of that exposition because of poor test screenings, and they cut what would lead into building a trilogy. I wouldn’t be surprised if the trilogy doesn’t happen now…

I just finished watching this film. And I won't lie...I personally thought it was okay - it had a lot of strong highs (especially at the first half)...but then began to have some really deep lows by the time we got to the rather clunky and wonky second half. I may need some time to sit with this film, though, because I don't know whether my opinion of it will worsen or grow better over time. What I will say, though, is that the original is always No.1.

For all everyone bitch about this movie I liked it … was it game changing? No! But it wasn’t as bad as the hype& I was just watching some BTS and this Linda Blair cameo was unknown to almost everybody, including Ellen Burstyn she was all wrapped up and really couldn’t see, so they said that the reaction was real 👍🏼👍🏼 + them little girls killed the acting, just all and all I thought it was a nice addition to the franchise

I saw this last week. It's not horrible, but at the same time, wasn't great either. It was OK. Absolutely nothing compared to the original, but I will say that it entertained me enough.

The exorcism was a whole mess😂 felt like a hobby club of people not fully there getting themselves into something that goes wayyyyyyy beyond their capabilities. Especially the wannabe nun lady. I was rooting for the entity to kick her ass lmao This movie is a prime example of "you can introduce characters, lines and throwbacks, but that doesnt mean you capture the atmosphere that made the original iconic"

the original exorcist is not scary in modern times. it's more disturbing. same thing with exorcist believer. it has like 2-3 jump scares but just like the original, it's more disturbing than anything.

thus was one mess of a movie.another cash grab by hollywood.if there are gonna be 2 more of these they need to make sure to get a much better director.the only good thing about this was linda blair in the end.people are speculating if she will be in the others but she has said that she wants nothin to do with them.and ellen burstyn said the only reason she was in it was because they paid double what they were originally offerin and gave the money not to her but to a college of her choice.

i liked it.. as BH has signed up for another followup movie in 1 year. So it has sold well enough world wide for another...

For the people who desperately want to give this movie a chance. I’m jealous. But I grew up TERRIFIED of the original exorcist. When we had slumber parties as kids this was the movie we wanted to see but would always regret while watching haha. This movie took that memory and ate it. Then they popped it out fed it to the blumhouse movie making machine and boom. There’s my nostalgia. This movie could’ve actually been atleast descent at first then they brought in the ties to the original. And the BS patriarchy quote AS IF BOTH MEN DIDNT DIE FOR HER DAUGHTER. THE LAST PRIEST LITERALLY ALLOWED HIMSSELF TO BE POSSESSED THEN THREW HIMSSELF OUT THE WINDOW TO HIS DEATH. TO PROTECT THAT FAMILY. AND WHAT IS THE POINT OF THE TITLE BESIDES IT BEING DERIVED FROM A MOVIE WITH ACTUAL SOUL. THE TITLE ITSSELF MAKES NO SENSE. everything in this movie is cheap and the fact that they’re planning a TRILOGY is tragic. This movie is rewatchable. Yes. But it’s forgettable as all hell. Soulless. Yeah, this movie is downright awful. It's pretty much every generic possession horror movie that has come out in the past 50 years with the Exorcist name slapped on it. Not only is it horrible, it's insulting to both horror fans and Exorcist fans. If Believer had a better script, better characters and removed all the nostalgia bait and cheap jump scares, it might have worked. What also was a problem with this film was that it seemed to be played safe. It didn't go far into showing something horrific. Seeing that this demon is Lamashtu (a demon that attacks pregnant women and babies), they could have done something with that by having something happen when a few babies go missing from the hospital. That would be somewhat horrific.
