Thanks for the useful tips on how to choose coffee beans! Just for the record, Lavazza is pronounced as "Lavatsa". In Italian, any time you see two ZZs you pronounce them as TS, the same way you would pronounce "Pizza."

Thanks! This is helpful. How about medium-dark roast with some oil on the beans? About 1/5 the bean surface.

I like dark, robust coffee. I'm not a big fan of medium roasts. Anyone, what is the best tasting, dark roast that I can safely use in my Philips 4300 Super-automatic? Thanking all in advance.

Question for Gail. Which decaf coffee would you recommend for my Delonghi Eletta? The light roast at my local supermarket seems fairly dark and has a bit of oil. Not as much as the dark roasts but they're not entirely dry.

Gail, Great video! Can I use Lavazza's Gran Crema in my Philips 4300 super automatic espresso machine? I understand I can use the Super Crema, but Gran Crema appears to be a different coffee. It is a blend of robust and arabica but is a " medium dark" roast. Thank you.

Take it to a service center the maker has to be taken apart to clean the grinder.

I have a question for Gail. Can you use Grindz on a semi-automatic with a built-in grinder like the Breville Oracle?
@SeattleCoffeeGear
@SeattleCoffeeGear 8 жыл бұрын
You sure can! The issue with a superauto is that the grindz go into the brew chamber. Take a look at this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p92fdZaAt5jPoo0.html

How would you know if the beans are oily when buying? if they are in a bag like the one shown in the video, you can't see the beans prior to buying.

You try it once and if it dosent work dont but it again. Alternatively go to a coffee bean supplier/roaster where u can see the beans in a container and tell em to pack some up for you! Fresher and you get to choose the beans as it is instead of looking at the packaging and guessing.

Hi Gail, I find it so difficult to find good beans for superautomatic and here's why: From what I learned from my research is that a lighter roast should be brewed at higher temperature like 95 to 105. For darker roast they should be brewed at a lower temperature like 91. As for my Saeco Intelia, The maximum temperature I can get is 85... So when I use medium or light roast, I get a sour or bitter taste and I use a really good coffee (Social Coffee People's Liberation). On the other side, I have a friend who used to brew Koffee Kult Dark Roast in is super automatic and it taste much better... Well at least it is not as bitter... The thing is that it is too oily for the machine... So my conclusion is that I should never have bought a superautomatic machine haha... But please convince me that I'm wrong! :P

Wouldn't grindz clean it out if you use an oily been?
@klarinetta
@klarinetta 8 жыл бұрын
Don't use Grindz in a Superautomatic as the machine will start brewing and when Grindz get wet they will expand and can ruin the brew unit. You could use darker beans and turn the grinder to the coarsest setting but the machine will then have to be taken into a service center 2-3 times or more every year as the grinder can only be cleaned by taking the machine apart.

So... It's just a grinder thing on superautomatics? Can I safely use oily beans or dark roast on a Saeco Poemia? Thanks!
@SeattleCoffeeGear
@SeattleCoffeeGear 8 жыл бұрын
A superautomatic grinder is very difficult to clean. Which is why we don't recommend them for superautos. If you like to drink a dark roast with oils, a stand alone grinder would be the way to go. Don't forget to clean that too!

Just saying, my dad has had a saeco superautomatic for going on 10 years now and has pretty much exclusively used oily dark roast espresso beans without any sort of problem. In principle i agree that oily beans are not the best thing for the maintancence of the grinder in a machine, but to those who like italian/ french roasts, i don't think the negatives (i.e clogging/build up) will have as big of an effect as these guys are making it seem.

Gail, can you name the beans in order from your left to right starting with the darkest to lightest. Thanks, looking for the name of the lightest colored bean. Having an issue with my saeco auto model hd8838 where it grinds the bean and then dumps it out with a no bean error, not sure why that is happening I have cleaned the machine to its fullest, even replaced the grinder ceramic disks. Currently I have been using lavazza super creme brand for years.

@EricFB
@EricFB 3 жыл бұрын
No. Oil is oil. Despite her check of approval, beans will release oil over time and if improperly stored. So your super crema may have once been fine, then over a bit of time released oil.

Lavazza is a great choice for the consistency and price. We can't speak to how they would compare to what you are roasting at home. Maybe do you own taste test and see what you like best!
