Honestly, I'd rather people be honest about who they are and any strongly held beliefs so I can avoid those whose views I strongly oppose. A lot of people who do ASMR have other channels and like most people today have other social media, and their views are likely to come out eventually on one or another of their accounts. Speaking for myself, I'd rather know upfront if people hold views I staunchly oppose rather than find out later when their other social media blows up because they said some awful stuff I disagree with. In this day and age who people really are tends to come outcome out eventually, especially as they get big and more people start to scrutinize them so hiding all that to get some subs seems dishonest to me. I feel the same way in the real world. For example, when people fly symbols or wear words or images that reflect views I oppose I know who to avoid, a T-shirt with racist or sexist jokes, nope, a Confederate Battle flag on your truck, thanks for the warning! If I can avoid it, I'd rather not give my time or contribute to the income of someone like that. I know I can't avoid them all, but I can avoid the ones who make it clear they are diametrically opposed to me on issues that are important to me. To be clear, I know not everyone will agree and they should do what works for them, but I'd rather peeps be upfront so I can make my choices, there are plenty of other artists I can watch.

Firstly, thanks for watching! I can respect that and I actually think the majority of people feel this way. For me personally, being both black and a woman, I've gotten to the point where having those filters on 24.7 is unsustainable. There's a type of fatigue I've experienced, from the media I consume, the clothes I'm wearing, to the food I eat, to the companies I buy from..majority of the ppl involved in these processes hold beliefs I disagree with and It's tiring having to be watchful all the time. Is it the right thing to do? Absolutely. Will I do it? Nope . Course I will always be put off by blatant racism, prejudice, sexism (saying slurs, wearing black face, some of the things you mentioned as well), but most peoples' beliefs don't manifest in this manner. I find so many are covert, or rather subtle in the way they talk about their strong beliefs. You often have to read between the lines and connect dots as they post. And I think because we're poc, we see these things much clearer than other people. In my personal experience, from religion, autonomy, to humanities, It's rare I find someone who sees life the way I do. And when I learn this about them, it burdens my enjoyment of them. Even the most trusted artists and creators will eventually go on to say something that changes my opinion of them 😭 So, I've found my peace in categorizing what areas I will meticulously screen, and what areas I won't..What areas of my life I'd rather know these things and what areas I'd rather not. ASMR is one where I'd rather not. But as you said, it will be different for everyone. Now, I do think there will come a time where it's harder to hide strong beliefs (with the direction technology is going in and such), but right now I feel we're still living in a time where it's possible to come online and show one part of yourself while hiding others. Or getting away with making separate accounts. We’ll see where we are in the next 5 years 🤔

@@Savette_ By all means, as a Black and Hispanic man I get it (at least the part related to my racial identities), do what works for you, I'll never fault any marginalized person for doing what they need to do to live their life and avoid the BS we need to process on the daily. To be clear, I am not saying that people need to put everything about themselves online. That said, as a historian who teaches courses on media and marginalized groups there are several historical dangers in people hiding certain key aspects. Again, speaking only for myself and no shade or those who feel different I'd rather know up front. Also, there is a danger that when people are not upfront about some (again, not every) thing we risk painting a picture that some of the awfulness that exists in the world does not happen as often. For marginalized people we know this is untrue, we live it on a regular bias (that very clarity you are talking about) and I can't fault anyone in those categories for not wanting to see or put up with it. However, when people hide their awful "isms" is becomes easier for people in positions of privilege to delude themselves into thinking that things are so bad an marginalized people make it out, not that they need more excuses. This touches one of the areas that I specialize in, whether or not we should address "weighty" issues in "lighter" forms of entertainment. My answer is nuanced, I think we can and should but again I'll never fault any marginalized person for seeking media that avoid these topics, not will I fault the desire to avoid such thing in certain entertainment. I can cite several studies that demonstrate entertainment of all froms has a much greater influence on real world thought and policy than many people believe. I think there is room for both (and many in between) in all manner of entertainment and media. I hope that I am in no way coming across seeking to demean your position, I am just offering another perspective, not some universal truth.
