Part of the reason this movie worked so well was that Ripley's survival was genuinely believable. She didn't even seem to be the protagonist at first. She was just the one that made the best decisions, as well as the one that had the most luck. She was pragmatic, but even that wouldn't have saved her by itself. The element of believable luck is what made the writing work. She was the one that didn't have to come face to face with the xenomorph until she was in a position from which she could defend herself.

This is one of the first movies with a good female hero in horror, action and sci-fi. She was venerable, smart and brave while not bashing the other men. Current films need to take note.

@@animeking1357 Tetralogy is a collection of four. Back when the Alien Quadrilogy was released it was a terrible name. Quadrilogy is a mix of a Latin prefix added onto the Greek suffix. Tetralogy is entirely Greek. Quadrilogy is not the proper term though has been around since the 1860s. Tetralogy is the more correct term for a collection of four.

I actually went to watch one of the Star Wars movies but the line was way too long so we went to see this movie which we had no clue what it was about. Turned out to be an excellent thriller and we were all happy we missed Star Wars!

This is what a hero/heroine should be. Ripley uses her brains to defeat the alien. Modern terrible fake Disney heroines are total crap compared to Ripley.

@@TheStraightestWhitest I agree 100% with your comment. Too bad Hollywood/Disney can't show us equally pragmatic female leads these days. If male leads go a bit overboard with the physical stuff, we film buffs get it; we accept it. But they keep showing us female leads who *can't* lift 50 pounds over their heads but *can* defeat ten male martial arts champions while barely breaking a sweat. Unrealistic!

People say how good those recaps, but they so inaccurate. For example Ash didnt reprogrammed ship, it was rigged right from beginning, Ash was planted and ship ordered to change course in transit.
