It was a state banquet, a political setting, where two powerful nations are engaged in some sort of political overtures and wranglings. This song of peace and love of motherland also brings in some political undertone as a reminder for peace and friendship for the 2 nations is all the more fitting. It's not insensitivity. It's just so fitting at the moment in view of the recent difficult relationship betwwwen the 2 nations.

I have just watched the wonderful documentary on Lang Lang on the BBC, so I go to KZfaq to find more and I find the the experience ruined by these comments which have nothing to do with beautiful piano playing and everything to do with hatred. I know this forum isn't really mature enough to understand what I'm about to say. As a true red blooded American, I applaud him for playing this song. My country hold the freedom of speech very dear, and I feel he should be able to express his feelings. I don't hold anything against him for that. I find it kind of funny actually. If he wanted to be really disrespectful, he would have chosen a song that us Americans could understand.

langlang, really loved the new version of my motherland you played. The alteration added modern taste to the old melody that I've been familiar with since childhood. You played well too! For the outcry, I've never heard of this song for anti something but for loving the country. Aggressiveness has never been part of our culture and intentionally playing this song in white house doesn't benefit anyone. I think some Americans just look for excuse to release their fears towards a growing country

The 3rd verse of the lyrics is the most controversial part : "When friends are here, there is fine wine/But if the wolves come/What greets it is the hunting gun." 1st of all, the war is over and China is no longer an enemy to the US. Most Chinese do not regard the US as an enemy; 2nd of all, the lyrics refer to the invaders of the Motherland as wolves, do you believe that the US was/is an invader of China like the Japanese?

Searching the Internet but not finding it yet. It was done by NPR (National Public Radio). He did talk about the movie some, but I can't really remember what he said. Anyway, you don't hear the lyrics, so why does it matter? The music is nice. :-)
