I wish your videos were available back in 2001. So many young athletes did this so very wrong causing massive lower back injuries that required surgery. Back then the mentality was: "Put 100Kg and go as deep you can your body will strenghten it self." I will go through these videos with the kids that I coach. Never again shall the mistakes of my generation be repeated. Keep up the good work. You rock.

So many people are willing to throw away the deadlift out of fear of back injuries but don’t check their squat, when in reality the squat is a lot easier to hurt yourself with yet people are uneducated on how to do it correctly.

Brendan Jackson The information in this video is wrong. Jeff is wrong, we should not be squatting as low as possible. We should be squatting as low as mechanical tension allows, which for most people is an inch or two above parallel. Putting ones joints into excessive ranges of motion under extreme load is a very bad idea. This article explains it well, www.advancedhumanperformance.com/parallel-squats-versus-atg-squats-part-1/ This is the part where you say "uhhh who are you and what are your credentials asshole!" If you are here just to be a Jeff fan boy, good luck to you. But he is wrong on this.

Love your videos. Especially when you go into your PT. My hip joints are wide, but I did not know. I went through years wondering how I could max-stack the extension machine and hack-squat while struggling on the squat rack. In fact, squatting often hurt my back so I avoided it. Because my high school strength coach enforced a strict "feet shoulder-width, facing straight." When I widened my stance and found a comfortable foot angle, my squats exploded w/o pain. Knowledge (plus hard work) equals power.

Jeff, you've completely changed the way I approach fitness. My knees and shoulders have never felt better. Could you do a video on adductors? If possible, could you cover mobility, flexibility and strength training? They seem to be the weakest part of my legs, and I think it's an area many people neglect. Thanks for everything, I feel like a new person these last few months because of you and your team.

omg this vid helped me SO MUCH!! I've been having the same issues as Jessie at 10:17. Now I understand more about the anatomy of the hips and the functions of the muscles around it, I've made a few changes to my squat and added in a few stretches to my adductors. My squat feels a hell of a lot better! Thanks so much Jeff!

jessie’s video is a proper depth squat - breaking parallel. that is, the crease of the hip slightly lower than the knee. breaking parallel doesn’t cause “butt wink”.

T Sama thts what I'm doing, I used to squat around 180 as well now I'm back to 75 or something 😂😂 But it's incredibly lightweight yet my knees ”crack”, it really discourages me to continue. I'd rather deadlift than squat

Fire🔥🔥 the squat and bench press is probably the main 2 exercises I feel need a scientific breakdown like this there not hard exercises but can b easily messed up especially with typical gym bro way of doing it correctly and ruling out sum the corrective actions if need be. Btw I been watching and liking and following the channel for everything within my 75 pound weight loss journey and lifestyle to fitness. Ps the new camera is a huge upgrade..

I'm able to maintain the anterior tilt in my pelvis. It turns out that, for me, the issue was calf tightness that was preventing me from squatting lower. I've been regularly stretching out my calves with two sets of 30 second stretches each leg. Now I can almost Asian squat! But I can't go that low when I've got weight on the bar. I'm very happy with the improvement, though.

Jeff, Consistently excellent information. I really appreciate these deep dives, it is incredible to have you as a solid resource. I had problems with my knees when I was young 14-16 from lifting with no training. You did a great pushup series on tips to do push-ups with shoulder injuries that was awesome, can you do that for squats? Apologies if it already exists.

I recommend this channel above all to the trainers at the gym I work at. Be careful when getting trainers from corporate gyms people, as long as you have a cert you can get hired, no experience, no background, no nothing. 15 trainers at my gym, half of them don’t even work out! And there’s no training education, only sales training! My GM, Fitness Manager and Lead Trainer never ever train! So as a trainer of 14years (no desire to manage anymore)I point this out and tell my clients to always ask questions of their trainers in the future. Bc u might get someone who got their cert last week.

This video is pure gold!!! I had been doing deep squats for about 4-5 months. But after my break when I rejoined the gym and tried to do the same deep squats and go heavy I started expriencing lower back pain. So basically until then I never noticed that all these months sqauts were the problem for it. Now after I understood that I had been doing squats with constant butt winks!!After doing these basic test now I know I have anatomical restrictions😅. So I started all over again with the tweaks Jeff suggested and my squats are getting painsless just as before.... And now I know that I am doing it right all thanks to jeff!!!😍

So if there is a hip anatomical restriction, how exactly do I fix that in a squat? Do I just stand wider? Or do I keep the same width, but flare my knees out as I go down in order to avoid the bone-on-bone problem? I wish there was a demonstration of how exactly to apply this to the squat.
