If the car does not have an arrow showing which side the fuel cap is just look at the pump symbol on the fuel gauge. The side the fuel line is on will also be the side for the fuel filler cap.

Loving the content Joe. There's usually an arrow next to the fuel gauge which tells you which side the filler cap is on. Little nugget of information that my Mrs taught me 😂😅

Big hot hatch fan, i didnt know that about the engine (being a de-tuned R engine rather than a GTi engine), and agree - get those lights put back to standard. Lovely car

Stunning GTI, and best in 3 door guise. Gorgeous sounding engine, glad you took out the deep rear tint on the rear lights. I'd remove and bin the awful wind deflectors too, I hate them with a passion lol. Takes me back to the early 90's when I drove a mk2 GTI 16v 3 door in tornado red, with 139bhp, very desirable motor back then. Hope to see more of this before it's sold - if you can part with it that is!!

I love Golf GTI's and GTD's and have had four from new in the last 20 years without an issue, but have always thought there may be a lemon or two on the second hand market but that one looks el fantastico. Great for a middle aged boy racer!

Did a little calculation and that fuel use was around 16mpg if fuel was 1.52 a litre (30 quid and 70 miles) I’m sure that thing will do around 30 in mixed use, I’m sure that mileage will go up as you drive it half sensibly

There's always a little arrow within the fuel gauge area, pointing to the side of the car that has the filler flap!

Golf GTIs …. had a couple of them, both manual … a 66 plate and a 19 plate “performance”. The best cars I ever had. They are like those girlfriends from the past who make you think … better not continue…

The Golf sounds artificially good on the inside because it’s equipped with a Soundaktor system which pipes noise into the cabin. The Golf is well sound deadened like most modern cars so you can’t hear the exhaust very well from the inside for example. This is a great channel fair play to you.

Would love to see a video on car finance and how that dictates what you buy and what you pay. Some cars can not be financed due to age/mileage so would love to know more!

I remember when dsg came out years ago. They were trouble from the start as I remember. Bring back torque converter boxes if there’s anyone left to repair them not just replace

The engine is based off the previous gen GTI, it has a timing belt, instead of a chain, which the standard mk6 GTI has. A massive plus in my opinion!

They have both a toothed belt from the crank and a chain that links the valvetrain. I've just had both done on my 35 👍

German car so fuel cap on right hand side... you dont need to guess, there is an arrow next to the petrol pump display on the dash

Don't assume MOT advisories must have been fixed if they don't show up on a later MOT. I've had a number of vehicles that received advisories one year, nothing done but not listed the following year...

I enquired about this car last year when it was for sale at another garage! It has no documented dsg service proof at 40k 🙈

Edited to please some melt in the comments SOME cars have an arrow on the fuel gauge to tell you what side to fill from.. good video, love a hot hatch.. had many, 106 Rallye’s, GTI, Saxo VTS, proton satria GTI the list goes on 🤙🏻

I’m pretty sure the mk6 golf r has the ea113 engine and the 35 has the ea888 gen 1

No mate, definitely EA113 in the 35's. It's a CDL engine same as S3 and 6R's... just not running as much power. The standard mk6 GTI was the first to have the EA888 engine

Does the fact it has no history affect its resale value? I’d be surprised to see it command full up retail without a fsh. That will be why it didn’t make CAP?

If it’s got no history, is there a way of trying to trace some through VW I’m sure at some point when it was new VW would have had a few services. Or it’s been to an independent dealer it may have been serviced by them. Worth seeing if the number plate has an independent dealers plates fitted.

How do sellers always, or nearly always, sell their motor’s with an empty tank? I remember once a day before I sold a car I was driving around just to use up the juice. Mind you it was the oil crisis in the early 70’s and the prices at the pump had quadrupled in a short amount of time! 😢Well before your time Joe? 😂

Most people sell them on or nearly on empty, as it changes hands rarely is it filled thus most on the forecourt are less than 1/4 full. At a guess if one comes in with a full tank, it's likely that it'll be drained a bit to put into other vehicles on the lot.

I had that exact nightmare last year previous owner was aware of an underline issue and never mentioned it. £3500 later it’s all back on the road they ain’t cheap

Lucky nobody drove behind the can when it was being offloaded. That driver paid absolutely no attention to the other side of the vehicle or rear. Just looked on the driver side only

12k for a 12 plate car that just shows how ridiculous used car prices are. I bought an 11 plate immaculate (last of the old shape) 28000 genuine miles Audi a6 avant 2.0 tdi 3 years ago from an independent car dealer for £9000. It’s currently on 60k and the way prices are I will be running it into the ground.

That’s a good buy, however I’m a little confused how a car with zero service history is not even serviced before going on the forecourt, 🤷‍♂️ ps the engine is the engine from the older edition 30.

Turns out it did have service history, they just hadn’t listed it! We service, PDI, not etc after we take a deposit, we don’t get time to do them before

Turns out it had service book after all, no dsg record though so off to VW for that, only £285 which I don’t think was too bad!

@@ShiftingMetal i think most would agree the damage is done already over the 80k+ with no fresh oil in the gearbox somebody correct me if im.wrong but getting it serviced after 80k+ still leaves the damage inside box 🤣

That sounds amazing and looks lot of fun to drive......... But it looks shite so old fashioned now and out of date looking got to be more exciting cars out there that drive as good but look lot better. VW just don't update there range very much do they... 🤔🤔
