Audi TT vs BMW Z4 - Long Distance Driving Comparison

While driving from Wellington to Auckland to pick up my girlfriend Angel's new BMW Z4, I drove my friend Jono's fiancée's new Audi TT up to him. And it gave me a great opportunity to see which is more fun on some fantastic NZ back roads, and which is a better long distance cruiser.

One of these cars looks like a Noddy car. And it isn't Angel's. 😀 Excellent, and fair comparison. I'm not a beemer man, but that Z4 is a very nice-looking car. And I like the hard top too. You have me looking at Trademe now!! Oh no!!

Haha I reckon you’d love a 3.0si. If my 130i is anything to go by, the same drivetrain in a lighter roadster would be so excellent

The Z4 looks like a million dollar sports car with a cracking soundtrack. Absolutely gorgeous. Timeless design. On the other hand, that TT looks like a constipated girly Sponge Bob. Hedious looking Audi.

Displacement can be very deceptive in terms of fuel consumption. I was surprised to see how fuel efficient my L15B7 Honda engine can be. Just putting around town/broads I get a range of 4.1-5.8L/100K, depending a little on the traffic. That's better than i get from the 1.0 3Cyl Polo at work... It's more how efficient the engine runs, how little mechanical drag it has, transmission losses, etc.

@@KiwiCarLife Downsizing has rarely led to actual efficiency gains. Turbo's are only efficient at sub 25% load. Friend of mine has an LS430 that he gets 10L/100km out of. Not that much more than my K24. And If i only slightly step on that L15 engine, the fuel consumption is just as bad as the K24 lol. I have to put it on ECON and really putt it around to have it be efficient. May aswell just enjoy a straight six if you can, its not really going to matter that much in the end.
