During Exercise Gauntlet Strike, #AusArmy soldiers trained to specialise in mechanised operations.
Held in Puckapunyal, Victoria, Gauntlet Strike brings together trainees from the Mechanised Regimental Officers Course (MROC) and Royal Australian Armoured Corps (RAAC) Regimental Basic Officer Course (ROBC) for tank and cavalry.

First delivery isn't until early 2027, which two years earlier than the Government had originally planned for. They are being built in Australia so I guess someone has to build the factory first.

M113AS4 was supposed to be retired due to cost. Instead, we are training with them still. They can not deploy them due to there hull having a sandwich plate, which does not offer enough protection from IEDs.

Since we are only getting 145 Redback IFV’s which is enough for one mechanised battalion, we will see the M113AS4 around for a while.

“Old” Abrams? M1A1 AIM SA’s are still fantastic MBTs, better than the HC model the USMC operates. The M113s are old and shit though, that’s valid… both are being replaced very soon

@IC3XR yes old, they were replaced in 2007, built in 1985 and they were old US stocks, theres been two other iterations since then. Most of them live in the workshops too. And they arent better at all

@@KipKil1iganuh, yeh.. old US stocks COMPLETELY rebuilt in the 2000s. Upgraded armour package closer resembling that of a tungsten M1A2. KEW-A2 ammunition, 2nd gen thermal optics, and the integrated-management situational awareness update, just to name a few things it has over a standard M1A1. It’s a still a fearsome MBT in 2024. Who cares anyway, soon 🇦🇺 is getting M1A2 SepV3s

The Australian army should be completely motorised. Mixing tracked and wheeled vehicles is a huge strain on logistics. The country is vast and wheeled vehicles are far easier to move around.

Boring...maybe...but even a chicken strangler or knuck has to eat. Be out in the field for a few weeks eating ration packs and a good field cook can put more smiles on faces and improve morale with a good square meal or two, and not getting food poisoning a bonus. Also a trade that would be actively sought after post service in civvy street. I'll stick up for the fitters and turners ! Never piss of those that feed ya ;-)
