No no Teaming is THE way, because Teaming introduces DRAMA and FRIENDSHIP and stuff. It makes for so much better storylines, and the backstab potential is wonderful

Teaming should be allowed. The diplomacy, back stabs, and camaraderie that come with it make FFAs much more interesting.

Yeah I think the event is in a good place now that they hid the players from each other before the match, this weeks games have been good teaming wise idk why the comments are still filled to the brim with anti teaming strategies

I already watched this on the twitch vod because I couldn't wait to get my OO fix this week, and oh my god this one was an instant classic. I rooted for several people during this and was satisfied at all times. OO is the best thing to happen to AOE4 so far!

This game should be a perfect indication of why rules around teaming aren't necessary. Obviously FFA is nothing new but let it work itself out. People will continue to adapt accordingly and it shouldn't be up to organizers to conjure rules to guide situational gameplay, rather features provided by the game if they are absolutely necessary.

random teaming up is what makes this event so much fun. You get all the random politics and backstabbing. No changes needed!

I think the biggest problem with teaming is when there’s 2v1s or 3v1s. Maybe you encourage playing alone by giving bonuses to players who manage to hold off a multiplayer push for 10 minutes or more? Or you end up splitting points if there’s three players who have each destroyed a landmark

I think you could limit teams a little bit by removing place points but giving higher points to early kills eg first kill is 8 points second kill is 7 points. You won't want to team for the idea that they could be stealing the early higher points of kills. Also minimise the roaches for end game points.

One problem that would introduce that one is... The defender wouldnt have much motivation to keep defending in that case... They already fell behind and now you are telling them they wont get much from surviving because less points for replacements, and they probably wont be getting any early kills while behind either... That would only encourage early surrenders and take away the fun from the game imo

Lmao wow! Miata never fails to entertain man.. what a ridiculous game. Kasva def MVP though taking out that dark alliance.. though I’m not sure why he decided to turn on lash instead of focusing down beasty, either way Mista had a game plan and he built up to it all game clearly. Amazing.

Hi, Drongo, great cast and game as always.I look forward to the outback octogon more than than golden league, this FFA format is great. I don't knwo if you plan on having non competitive games but there was an absolutely amazing game, an island nomad, on beasty's channel called 'PRO NOMAD FREE FOR ALL ON THE ISLAND MAP!'. It would be great to see it with cast as it was one of the best game of AOE4 I have ever seen.

In regards to the teaming, one possible option might be to reduce the amount of points, which can be earned when players team. This could be in the form of halving points for example when a player is defeated in a 2v1 situation by a team.

You could maybe divide the points a player would receive if they are teaming up. For example, one kill would award: -> 3 points for a solo player. -> 1,5 to a 2 ppl team. -> 1 point to a 3 ppl team. -> 0,5 to a 4 ppl team. -> zero points to a 5 players team or higher. *Unless the player being attacked has a Wonder up. I would even consider giving points to a solo player being the target of a team of 3 or more, just to see if people start thinking before going deep in the hand holding game.

I would love to see the 3 priests with the relics corner the knights so they aren't able to get away. If you can time it right to cover a much larger area that would make more sense to me, or save them for one after another to gain a bit more time.

One idea to make teaming harder is to give bonus points for killing a player who is teaming up with somebody else (whether they are really teaming can be judged by the admins afterwards), that way you encourage people to go on Kasva beast mode againts teamers and makes people who is teaming a yummy target for hitmans, so evident teaming is a bit riskier

@Aussie_Drongo Neutral villagers go idlie when you destroy the neutral resource depo, so best thing to do when you out some one (unless you want the removal, ala' forest nothing) is to destroy those to stop it.

Also I had an idea how to discourage teaming. Make it less points for the kill if it’s done as a 2v1. Less again for 3v1. Etc. So if two people attack someone at the same time when not teaming. Their incentivised to either back off. Or maybe try and push away the other player. Or team and accept less points.

Teaming Solution: Implement bonus points the longer a player survives vs a 2v1 or 3v1 etc. If the objective is to get the most points over all to win, then doing a 3v1 where the defender gets bonus points for surviving makes it so that it's less ideal to team. Since your defender may get points as well. IE Survive a 3v1 for 5-10 minutes, get 1-3 points. Survive a 2v1 for 10-15 minutes, get 1-2 points. So it'll incentivize the teams to A: Either make a quick decisive strike, rather than game long assaults until a player dies, or B: Disincentives' teaming because the defender may get bonus points, potentially placing them higher on the score board than yourself.

To avoid early gang-ups, still award points for a kill, but deduct points from players who didn't get the kill but participated. Obviously, this rule doesn't apply to wonder rushes or 2v2 situations

No need to change or remove teaming. I suggest adjust points to encourage back stabbing. Like for example landmark kill points. Etc etc.

Give more score to players who attack more people. Then that would encourage more backstabbing. I am not sure how to measure that. Maybe instead of adding the score from defeating each player, you can multiply them instead.

How about no aggression until a certain age. Also could have a performance category. Teaming detracts from your overall points. Solo survival vs teams for x minutes gives you points. Etc

How about allowing alliances, but giving them a negative point or two? I would think that would place a stipulation on alliances, and make it more of a choice of desperation than convenience.

Beastyqt pretty much explains it well, if they didn't outright allow alliances, people were still going to do them, they were just going to be more sneaky and unofficial about it. Removing points for alliances would just cause the players to resort to less obvious measures so they can always claim they never "teamed". But I think they could have tried to split points for destroying a player between the two highest contributors, which could then be seen as a penalty to teaming, but also be a means of "stealing" points from someone who is trying to kill another player.

They would be able to tell if two people teamed up.I still believe it would be more of an incentive to not work together unless desperate times called for desperate measures. There are instances where two people team up and then one of the two who teamed up would snipe the landmarks and then get the points for knocking out a player. What would the other person gain then by teaming up if they get -1 points and subsequently don't get the elimination points?

I've got n idea for how alliance could work in games like this. I've been playing a lot of Crusader Kings 3 and I think they only way Age of Empires could adapt this, is with a marriage system. I just dont think player characters and their families would work for matches like these unless you make a new game entirely.

I don't think effectively banning teaming is possible so I agree it simply shouldn't be done, but yeah maybe the point system can be tweaked to incentivize certain actions over other. The way things turned out this game however was great!

I think points should be alloted to players who finish off other players and not for players who just stay in the game till the end, will surely shorten the game and make it more interesting.

Teaming is perfectly fine in a free4all, but focus should be more on the bracket and on points. The psychology game of wisely choosing your teammates and opponents is as interesting as the game itself, but now we (the audience) only get to see the game itself.

he protected his siege and targeted production (barracks,towncenter,etc) which made it hard for a counter attack to mass. it was pure skill honestly. he's a beast.

you cld announce and give one player the mission to backstab an alliance if they have one (without allowing them to talk about it), or they get no points at all. This way alliances are not prohibited, but everyone wld be super wary of them

You can't deal with teaming, it would just be a degree of it, that is the nature of FFAs.

this idea probably isnt new, but once a player is eliminated the landmarks should be completely destroyed so you can build over it.

you should just let people team up all they want. in the end they gonna betray each other to win. this way, teams can fight for resources and such. not just individuals fighting for resources. it might be even more entertaining to watch all out wars between teams, they'd have to have godlike control on their units to avoid team fights just like in real life xD
