Updated video (March 2022): • Easiest DIY Dry Shampo...
Just a little video on how I apply my dry shampoo using a powder puff. :) I got this idea after watching Daven Mayeda (your hair BFF, hollllla!) apply dry shampoo with a big powder brush. I didn't want to dedicate one of my make up brushes exclusively for my hair so I decided to use the powder puff that came with my CG loose powder.
I love that I don't waste any product, get a more even application, and can throw my powder puff in with my laundry every week to keep it sanitary. Anyway, I hope you find this video helpful!
P.S. If you noticed I was a little more subdued in this video, it's because it was 7am and my brain was still half asleep. I'll be back to my regular self in my next video... promise!

I'm a science gal and the theory goes like this: Wet hair is weakest because hydrogen in water molecules breaks hair protein bonds. This is why hair flattens and stretches when it's wet. If it must be combed wet, start from the tips and work out tangles upwards to the scalp (not the other way around) since broken bonds at the scalp eventually travel chemically to the tips where they split the ends. Stretched hair protein is more susceptible to electrically charged dry air leading to fly-aways. Dry shampoo keeps hair stronger and thicker longer and doesn't degrade color or perms as quickly. Dry shampoo doesn't replace wet shampoo, but supplements it during the week. It may help to drape your brush in cheesecloth to help comb out product more thoroughly and keep your brush product free. Then toss the cloth and applicator puff in the laundry.

I'm so glad this was helpful! :) I really like the Principessa dry shampoo but it's only the 2nd one I've tried. The only other one I've tried was the Tresemme spray but it didn't work very well on my hair. I much prefer the Principessa because I find it longer lasting (really soaks up the grease) and it also smells A LOT better. :)

Thank you so much for posting this! I've found a lot of recipes for making homemade dry shampoo, but none describe how to apply it. I recently cut my hair short, and it's noticeably greasier. Can't wait to try this!

i noticed that my hair became more greasy/oily when i cut it short too. dry shampoo still works for me but sometimes i find i have to apply twice a day now that my hair is short. once i'm done the dry shampoos in my stash, i am going to try making one at home too! :)

thanks for watching!! it took me around a week or two to get used to not washing my hair every day... it was brutal at the beginning as my hair felt so disgusting (even with dry shampoo). it does get better though and while my hair still gets greasy at the roots, it is much less than before. let me know how it goes!! :)

the ends are shiny, not greasy hehe. :) i used to wash my hair every day but it got really limp and full of static... the ends would be super dry but my roots would get extremely greasy throughout the day as my head was overproducing oils. ever since i changed to washing it 3 times a week, i think my hair looks and feels so much better. all personal preference but i appreciate your feedback! :)

Really good idea! I use dry shampoo too and I put the smallest amount in my palm and kinda dump it where I need it as many times as I need then brush my hair in all directions to even it out but this is so much better! I believe I have a puffy brush I could use actually.

i bought it from the glymm boutique but principessa is no longer available. :( instead, there is the cake dry shampoo - but i haven't tried it so not sure if it's worth the money. you can also order it directly from principessa beauty but the shipping is $10 unless you order $75+.

I was interested in dry shampoo but i never thought that it would not contain soap....... so now i am wondering what im supposed to do. Being a guy my hair is soaked with grease in the morning just because i get really warm when i sleep. So the idea of wiping powder on to my hair to absorb all the grease just seems like not the thing for me. I feel like the smell would be hard to get rid of/ mask

I've been thinking about chemistry principles behind dry shampoo and wondered if it's necessary to use hair product at all. As an experiment, I put baking soda in a dish liquid squeeze bottle so it comes out in a puff cloud - not powder clumps - at the roots and base of scalp and then finger combed it through my roots before brushing. It didn't seem to help much at first and I thought it failed experiment but a few minutes later, I ran my fingers through my hair and the greasy look and feel were gone! To smooth and restore shine, I used a damp brush to finish altho it wasn't really necessary. Water made any surface soda dissolve, and since it's water soluble it was easier to rinse out of my brush, probably freshening that as well. I wondered if dry shampoo actually removes oil at all, but instead just water and sweat that's mixed with hair oils. Does dry product chemically interact with moisture and that's what frees hair to give it that fluffy loft? I'm not sure. But if baking soda can replace purchased product, reduce laundry, freshen a brush, deodorize hair, doesn't get gummy and rinses out clear, it's probably worth trying. If you or your comment-ers try this, let me know your results!

that's a great idea and experiment... i've been trying to use up my baby powder so i've been using that as a dry shampoo. it seems to be working but my hair becomes full of static. i may try baking soda next. thank you!! :)

petitepearstyle Baking soda made my hair static-y even tho I used a very light dusting. That's why I thought these products work by trapping water in the oil. I finished with a damp brush to discharge some of the charge and it seemed to work pretty well without residue. I'm going to try it again next mid week because I was really happy with the results. Good luck to you, too!

Hi my hair is very damaged because of bleaching so using this dry shampoo will not affect it in any way right? Since I do apply coconut oil and leave in conditioner throughout the day. Or would you recommend only applying this dry shampoo by itself?
@AuthenblissityMain
@AuthenblissityMain 10 жыл бұрын
i'm not a hair expert by any means, but i would try putting the coconut/leave in conditioner on the shaft/ends of your hair and avoid the roots. you could lightly dust the dry shampoo on your roots in the morning and that should give you enough oil control to last the entire day... i don't think it would cause any damage to your hair if applied this way. if you end up trying it, please let me know how it goes!
