The most amazing part of this video was watching an electrician clean up after himself.

The Unistrut brackets look totally overkill for a shelf that's gonna be holding a router and some other networking equipment. I love it.

As a fellow electrician. I love seeing you put so much attention to detail and how it looks. I cannot stand coming in behind someone else and seeing all the butchery. I have to stop myself from going nuts fixing it. LoL. Love the videos.

Nice job. I worked for C.E. in NYC. I had many jobs assigned to me because very few people could do conduit work. Even our illustrious engineering department would dumb jobs down and endorsed wiring layout like your exciter motor leads that you showed (unprotected, fast install, & cheap time and material rate). I guess many corporations are members of the subgenius philosophy & schooling.

I always tell the apprentices that "Your work is your signature." Also, when planning and performing a task to remember that future access and ease of future work are important. "Remember the next poor bustard, he could be you!" In the case of this job the shelve I believe is in the exclusion zone around and in front of a panel. Minor in this case anyway. I am with others on the shelf brackets. I would have stopped off at Lowes and picked up four of the welded shelf brackets for this task. Also hate the wood for shelves and would have used the money saved on the Unistrut parts to buy a couple of sheets of 1/8" 6061T6 aluminum cut to size. I would have counter sunk the holes and installed CS machine screws instead. I hate bolt heads and washers on shelves! Even with my gripes it is still a stud duck job.

Plastic strut end caps did not know I needed those till today. An impact rated extension will not mind being used as a punch as much as a chrome (mushroomed enough to know). Nice shelf Chris.

Exciter cables secured to to the floor with no pipe. Nice. Anyone that takes pride in their work knows that there is form/function/safety to do it correctly. "What an asshole" LOL

And yet it functioned perfectly for over 100 years, as I like to say pretty is as pretty does I suppose another way of saying it is if it's not broken don't fix it. unfortunately some people are more interested in aesthetics and making things pretty then actual functionality which explains why things are so expensive today.. someone's going to have to pay for all those expensive unnecessary upgrades, back in the old days we used to call this busy work.

Nice improvements. Annoying to see the earlier maintenance philosophy was "this is good enough if it works for today". Regarding the conduit using the pre-formed bends vs custom bending, is that because the facility is too cheap to own/rent the equipment, or because it isn't practical to do so for that diameter?

They are sure being lax about the budget, because we all know that if we werent limited by budget we would strive for sexyness like that. Too bad you couldnt move the HV stuff in that corner and put the networking next to the computer desk. You Sir are an inspiration to me

It's kind of tight but I wonder if a 12u rack would've fit there instead. Anyway, it's better than 90% of the network dmarc points I've seen. It sure beats a sheet of plywood screwed to the wall with all of the network equipment zip tied to the wood.

Us IT folks normally just throw a backing board on the wall and strap everything to that. So much less of a PITA to work with than shelves IMHO. Those are some extreme duty shelves though.

@@Physicsduck They aren't output cables, are they? I'd hope that the output cables would have a flange or box or some other fixture attached to the generator specifically for that purpose... kind of like the electric service masthead on a house.

@@Physicsduck same thing when I was working in the hospital made before 1970. Once I got fuses box with schema on door inside. It wasnt 100% clear, but life support systems was powered on bottom. However it did not mach in 100%, so I did "mistake" and removed fuse from real working life support system. It was big surprise, because UPS (backup battery power) was good, which is very rare thing in this hospital. In other case, my life can be supported by government for about 5 years (jail). Kinda in Poland.

Sooo about that unistrut stuff ey So I know that it probably wont matte for some little router stuf but woud it not be a lot better if the bracket is on the top instead of on the bottom of the horizontal beams now all the beny forces focuses on the 5 mm of angel iron wile if in the top it only pulls on it and pushes on the bottom I know the angle bracket woud be in the way of the shelves but noting some sawing coud not fix

So at some point someone actually said "Oooh, feeding 8 breakers with 12 gauge is bullshit... BUT I CAN TOP THAT!" and then grabbed a spool of cat 5 (except really I'd bet it was at best cat 3, cause if you're gonna go for bullshit, why screw around?) 😆 Also, I like how those brackets are probably sturdy enough to hold an entire 48U server rack, but instead is gonna hold one tiny ethernet switch 😂

I guess the site can de remotely controlled via the internet? So…. What happens is the internet drops out or failed completely. Does the generator shut down or does it carry on at the last known command?
@Physicsduck
@Physicsduck 4 ай бұрын
There is no internet connection to anything command and control. That would be a gigantic security problem. We can monitor things remotely, speed, power, temperature, water levels, things like that...but our computer system is a strip club....you can look, but you can't touch. The only way to change anything on the generator is to be physically standing there at the control panel. The only way to make a computer that can't be hacked, is to physically unplug it.
