Last time we saw the procedure of leveling your CNC bed manually, using a feature already built inside Marlin firmware. This time we are going automatic! Auto leveling your CNC bed using next to nothing! And it's working better than I could ever wish for!

what I have wondered in the other video already: you'll always just adjust the z-hight and therefore your angles (endmill to surface) won't be the same everywhere. once your depth of cut towards the z-axis increases you'll start to notice more and more. It's alright vor v-bit carvings, I suppose. I think that's why people do surfacing paths (with big endmills)!

True that! In fact this aproach is used to compensate for very small imperfections on the machine's bed... I may overdid it a bit just to prove the point! But for critical dimensioned parts, this would not be an option I 'm afraid. You could use this on more cosmetic operations though, or even v-carving/engraving on complexed surfaces! Cheers Tom

How did you set up the probe hight. marlin had to know the width of the metal block

Cool addition to your 3D printer / CNC machine. :-) I was thinking it would be trivial to make a small attachment that clips to the tool and drags the metal spacer around and pushes it to the bed with a weak-ish spring, that way the only thing you would have to do is zero the tool, attach the spring holder and block to the tool and hit go. :-)

Thanks Morten! I do like your approach! There are switch based probes you can buy on the market and not have to move anything arround, but it is very simple to make it the way you suggested. Thanks!

Hi i am using ramps and lcd with my homemade cnc in same way but i have a problem when i store leveling data to eeprom and activate the bed leveling i send g1 z0 commande to go to zero z but it given me the wrong calibration, i must send m851 z0 ?

Why don't you use a simple homemade 3d touch probe, like on big cnc machines?

здравствуйте . подскажите пожалуйста, можно ли в прошивке марлин активировать функцию ,как запоминания последней сроки ,или координат, в случае отключения электричества . или может в g коде установить команду для записи последних строк, на sd карту ., Hello. please tell me whether it is possible to activate the firmware marlin, like remembering the last time frame, or coordinates, in case of power failure. or may in the g code set command to write the last lines on the sd card.

καλησπερα Σακη.οταν τρεχω τις αλλαγες σου για το bed leveling στο configuration.h μου βγαζει το παρακατω error καμοια ιδεα? #error "Z_MIN_PROBE_USES_Z_MIN_ENDSTOP_PIN requires Z_MIN_ENDSTOP_INVERTING to match Z_MIN_PROBE_ENDSTOP_INVERTING.

Hey Ari! And sorry for the late reply.. You can use pretty much any bit! But in theory the smaller the tip of it the better the accuracy I suppose... Cheers!

Signal και ground τα χω εγω φιλε Χρηστο. Νομιζω και ολα μου τα endstops. Αμα θες το δουλευεις και με το Vcc ομως. Εχει να κανει με τις ρυθμισεις σου στο Marlin και αμα τραβας το signal απο high σε low η αναποδα. Αν δεν κανω λαθος, απο default, με signal-ground εισαι οκ ( high to low)..

Also.... your base plate ...could easily be negated.... and your bed water-resistant.... just simply white glue a sheet of tinfoil or aluminum foil on to it.

This approach was made with mostly pcb milling in mind! I think I m gonna adjust a microswitch on a broken tool for the wooden stuff! Cheers buf
