In this episode of auto detailing business tips, Darren talks about a subject that comes up frequently by many guys just starting out in the detail business, as well as guys who have owned a detail business for many years.
What to charge for detail services, why you might be possibly giving too much of your services away without charging enough, and communicating this in a way that makes sense to your customer.

I have eight years of experience and your video is really good for everyone. My previous experience as a saleman helped me to sell with ease my services charging the price that i want without dealing with request of reduce the price of the services.If you dont charge the proper amount when you know your operation cost,you are going to get broke.

I think that some of these detailers are desperate and they bid these jobs too cheap because of fear they won't get the job. They're married and may have a family so every job is important.

But at the same time, they are screwing themselves. It sets expectations of price for future work. It also causes you to have to work more to earn a living, reducing time with your family which is just as important. I can understand the intent but it is just shooting yourself in the foot.

Hi Darren. I have searched your channel for ceramic coatings. It seems as though these coatings are taking over the industry but i feel that they are over sold with all the hype. They have their benefits but all this scratch and flame resistance is overboard. Have you started offering ceramic coatings to your clients? If so what do you think about the coatings?

I could throw many ideas your way, but ultimately you have to figure out what works for your market, your budget, etc. Personally I think leveraging the Internet with Google Adwords is the quickest and easiest way to drive business to you. But with that said, you at least need a website which is a big can of worms. Trust me; it's not easy and you have to be willing to learn. But every day is a new learning curve for me as I continue to grow my business in a way that serves me and my world. I wish you much success and hope you are able to turn things around. Just know that I too get kicked in the balls on a regular basis with the endless learning I put upon myself. But it is within the struggles that the real learning lives. See these links as a starting point: This link has "The ultimate guide to Google Adwords"....a great book to learn the "tricks": www.best-auto-detailing-tips.com/auto-car-detailing-business.html This link has my comprehensive instruction on choosing a website builder: www.best-auto-detailing-tips.com/auto-detailing-business-website.html

Rich Beach People shopping at "garage sales" are in the market for relatively expensive car wash/cleaning services? I think it more likely such people would be washing their own cars.
@supercharged00gtp
@supercharged00gtp 6 жыл бұрын
I do all of my advertising on Facebook through local town pages, garage sales pages, and local subdivision pages. I get plenty of work from these sources, there are a lot of people on the town/garage sale pages that have the means to pay someone to detail their vehicle(s). There are also lots of mom's with mommy mobiles that need to be cleaned and they don't have the time or desire to do it themselves. These are my primary targets, then I try to set up maintenance programs with them for steady work. Based on the quality and the perceived value I provide leads to referrals from my customers to others and continue to grow my base. am part time (weekends and some evenings) out of my garage and have been able to start picking and choosing what I work on. If Mark is hurting for work, this is another avenue that is free even if he doesn't have a website. I don't have a website but I have a facebook page dedicated to my business so when I share my work or put out there I have availability I get calls, messages, and emails for quotes and am always pushing to schedule an appointment for service.

10% or less have their car detailed. This is where the competition is. Create a market for yourself that you have no competition. Raise your prices and do only the cars that makes a profit for you. Think neighborhoods and businesses that may have a fleet of delivery vehicles.

Having a detailer save the original paint of a vehicle can save you thousands. If you think of it in terms of high-end classic vehicles a second paint job can drastically reduce the price of that vehicle. Paying a detailer 200 dollars an hour to not only improve the overall look of that car and protect the body of the vehicle while allowing you to keep the original paint through careful paint restoration will save you thousands in resale value for that specific vehicle.

Charge what you want. If I had extra $200 I’d pay it. I’ve offered to come out and help out for a day. My question is: I keep getting potential clients asking for estimates. How can I do that without seeing the car? Mostly for interior Which is funny because I have nothing on my website stating that I do interior shampooing. Makes me wonder if the website is a waste of time.

No it is rocket science because with Larry's way he goes through a step by step analytical process to measure paint depth, type of compounds needed, paint texture, clay, etc. This guy can clean not saying he cant, but his mindset is the following okay customer I will wash your 100k Porsche with my bucket and mit (which most do; I do) but then he uses a damn broom stick to hold open the hood of a car while scrubs it with a wheel brush...like wtf lol.

Larry is not a god. Not anymore than Kevin Brown is. The market Darren works on is entirely different, but not to say he doesn't work on "high end" cars as well. Larry and Kevin Brown misrepresent the kind of work the majority of the detailing world is. Darren does great work, and he's capable of doing work on the same level as anyone else in the industry. Does he always do that? No. It's inappropriate to over deliver on your services like that when someone isn't paying for it. Some people like to give away their time and products for free, but Darren is a good businessman, so he over delivers where it's appropriate. And about the broom and scrubbing the engine bay with a wheel brush; so what? The customer isn't going to say "wow you used a wheel brush on my engine!?" They'll just be happy it's cleaned, dressed, and looks new again. They also won't care if he has to prop the engine open with something, because why would they? if he BROKE something they'd care. If he didn't, then it honestly doesn't matter.
@autofetishdetail
@autofetishdetail 6 жыл бұрын
Your response is on point at every level. Thanks for your clear display of logic! I am a little uncertain where the broom handle moment in any of my videos is???? If I DID do that, it would have been out of necessity. And like you say; people generally don't care how the results are produced, so long as they feel they have gotten value and like you say, I don't break anything in the process.
