This coolant washdown system is designed to assist a machinist with the process of cleaning out a CNC machine. These high production machines have the ability to create massive amounts of metal scrap (aka swarf or chips). These chips can quickly grow into immovable piles of sharp metal needles that are laborious to remove and can even damage the machine itself. The Swarf Diablo is our automated solution to this problem. After a few years of iterative design and feedback, we feel that it is ready.

We love ours. Quality of life is right! I no longer have to spend 15 or 20 minutes hosing the machine out at the end of the day. Getting chips and coolant all over me. Nice work guys!!

Love This!! Where can i buy? My UMC500ss loads up with chips so so bad and the chip conveyor is so terrible!!! I need this

The complete kit is available on www.SwarfDiablo.com. The installation was a little bit more involved on our UMC-500 compared to a larger vertical 3 axis machine due to the tight quarters surrounding the tool changer and behind the main door (left side). We can send you more info about exactly how we routed the hoses and nozzles on that particular machine. Overall we are happy with the result because there are no more hidden areas for chips to collect and the system is maintenance free. Thanks for your interest. Let me know if I can help with anything.

Haas auger chip conveyors are so shitty, belt conveyors are the only way to go, don’t know why haas keeps using them, and chips build up way too much in haas

I definitely agree that conveyors are far superior to augers. I believe cost is the main factor there. We think Haas verticals have great overall value. But yes the enclosure floors are quite level and collect chips easily.

@@powermoveengineering that’s what I used to think too, but now you can buy DN solutions (doosan) mills for the same price as haas, with all the improvements that haas doesn’t have, I started on haas, I don’t hate them, there is just a lot of cons for them, have you heard of Hurco ? By far my favorite machine and they are the same or cheaper than haas

​@@powermoveengineeringWe have the same issues with the Doosan VMC, the enclosure floor has a swallow slope like the Haas with auger on both side with no front conveyor. When we mill plastic and use air instead of coolant, it takes 30mins sometime to get most of the chips out. Loc line coolant nozzle hook up to a air line on certain places will reduce that time down to a few minutes.

How much coolant is lost during a night shift run. Your device kicking on and belt or auger running. We all know chips carry coolant out into the barrel. I know my recycling yard loves to be seeing coolant being dumped. They'll knock off.05 per pound no questioned asked.

For both of our machines with a chip conveyor (Haas UMC-500 and Doosan Lynx 2600SY), we run the conveyor as little as possible for this reason. Our scrap recycler has not complained but we never want to waste coolant. Even during heavy roughing it seems like it is always possible to let the chips drip dry in the steep sloped region of the conveyor for at least 30 minutes. We try to only to only run the conveyor for 10-20 seconds at a time and this added system does not really affect that. It just helps move the chips towards the conveyor rather than building up elsewhere.
