If I could choose one to own and drive I would go for the UK one, but the Aussie’s level of craftsmanship is astounding. That said, from the first ep the US one was the most eye catching of all three. Had I been there to vote I think I would have voted either UK or AU, but all three are amazing and worthy of respect!

The black bike is the only one that is rideable every day, or for long miles. The Australian bike had the best craftsmanship. The American won because it was big long and bloated, and that is what Americans who voted want.

Team Australia had the best bike by far. They should have won no doubt. The level of craftsmanship on the bike was amazing, all the detail that went into the build is something to really admire. BAD ASS BIKE TEAM 🇦🇺.

There were bits of all 3 that I liked. The American one had that long, low curvy look, but in the end it looked like a tribal tattoo with wheels. The English one had the perfect '50s vibe, and I really liked the extremely clean look and the fact it had 2 fat tires on it, but the only access to the front brake being on that shift lever under your butt was a bit of a bummer, as was the shifter position, and it was an off-the-shelf assembly that really didn't have that chopper look. In the end, the Aussie bike really nailed it. Absolutely blown away by the craftsmanship that went into it and it's hard to argue with the quality of the end result. The fit and finish were next level. They'd have had my vote had I been there.
@geraldstephenson2755
@geraldstephenson2755 4 ай бұрын
depends on what style of chopper youre going for. you say the english didnt quite have a chopper feel, but it definitely had that 50s early 60s bobber kinda early chopper style. the other two were that newer style of chopper. in my mind the aussies did the best work all around for sure, that level of craftmanship is just amazing and i respect it, but i just cant get down with that newer style of chopper and will always prefer that older style like the british did. i will agree that the choice to do the front brake like that is a bit dumb though.

That was a half ass bike that anyone with the parts can assemble. Russell built NOTHING on that bike... he used pre-existing, and ready made parts, that were slightly modified for his build! This was a bike BUILDERS competition, not a bike assembly competition! So no, sorry, Russell's bike comes in 3rd place.

+Guido Rollard I agree. Beyond National things (which I don't care about), the aussie team surprised me! In the middle of nowhere they managed to build that stunning masterpiece! Hats off gentlemen, you are winners! I am glad that arrogant guy didn't win. The aussie guy was correct "there's a huge difference in building bikes and assembling bikes".

+Alistair Nelson Bush Jr. wasn't elected by honest votes, just like Obummer wasn't. They were just the puppets assigned by the powers that be. Having said that, I agree the Aussie chap is an amazing craftsman. I mean he is a world class metal worker. I think Joe Martin is also quite gifted in metal working. The Arrogant Britwit get's zero praise from me though. There's a reason he's never won in the States, and if he wasn't so fucking arrogant, he might see why and correct it. Clearly that won't happen.

and often, a lot of the real craftsmen are hardly known outside their community, and just do what they love to do back home in their garage or shed, regardless of shows and stuff. Only if someone wants to bring his business into spotlight, thats a reason to do so

@WelLRoundeDSquarE 8 жыл бұрын
Guido Rollard I think you're 100% correct. I build some pretty cool shit in my garage/shop, and I do it with very little money, or resources. I always love to see true craftsmen build things, no matter what genre it's in. We are a dying breed. these days if they can't google it to see how everyone else does it, or if a computer can't tell them what to do, they are lost. I'm a machinist by trade, and a damn good one. Kids aren't learning to do things with their minds and hands any more. It's a real shame too.

*The Americans most definitely put the most creativity and function all while making the most comfortable to ride bike, except for the fact that it's a hard-tail!!! The Brits (Russell) built (assembled) the same old boring bobber that they ALWAYS do!!! The Aussies actually "built"something for once, and it actually ran!! The Aussies also finally picked someone that's not afraid to put a little hard work into his bike, I actually kinda liked this one!!*

That Australian bike was by far ahead of its time. Gorgeous bike. Should've won hands down. The craftmanship is unparallele. The British would win first place in retro bikes. Clean and mean old school bike. Not a chopper or bobber. Just a bike many can appreciate. USA, I'd would agree but in a chopper build off, he'll win. Hands down. Nice paint job. I remember watching this when it first aired, and thinking the Exile looked timeless, while the other two, as impressive as the work was, instantly looked like 2004. It was obvious then the long swoopy tribal flame stuff would not be around in a few years. Russell Mitchell in 2021 is still building satin black tanks while the other two are now doing completely different things, which I think says it all.

Timeless doesn't matter because people will always love the stuff from their era. Take the vehicle industry, how sought after all the old mustangs, corvettes, chargers, camaros, old trucks, it's endless all the older vehicles that are going for big money now. So, in time, these older bikes will be just as sought after as collectible time pieces.

When this aired, my favorite was the exile bike. Revisiting it, i still feel the same. The aussies obviously displayed the best technical fabrication skill. But i think exile displayed the best compositional skill, which ultimately matters most to me. The Aussie bike looks like the silver surfer ordered a custom chopper. The American bike looks like a dragon with serious back problems wearing a bunch of gaudy jewelry. It looks like some inaccurate interpretation of a motorcycle, like if you asked an ai to produce an image of a motorcycle. The exile bike just looks like an exceptionally clean, well done bobber, which is always attractive in my book

Aussie team should have won. It took way more skill to fabricate a bike that was way more unique than the other two. I agree with Aaack Aardvark here: Murcian and Brit bikes were a lot more bolt-on vs. truly custom bits throughout the bike. Not only that, but the bike that won was by far the least drivable. They barely got that monstrosity running...

Back in the day when I was responsible for making custom motorcycle tyres for Avon, then Vee Rubber, Scotty Cox entered the Acid Monster, a truly gorgeous motorcycle for the world championship held in Las Vegas. As I am also a former racer, tyre tester, and aerospace engineer, I could not fail but be impressed by the overall package of the man and machine. Too often the term builder is tagged onto assemblers, and so it has become almost a stupid statement in itself. This is the man for the art of the motorcycle, from start to finish. No surprise that an American won in an American contest, in America. But I for one, beg to differ

Out of the three teams, only two of them actually built anything and only one of them built a whole bike. Only the Aussies started with a pile of loose metal and fabricated a beautiful machine. The American team did a beautiful job and did build some of the machine but went with shelf parts for a lot of it. While the Brits didnt build anything at all. Anyone could build their bike just by going to a catalogue and ordering a bunch of parts to bolt together. All three bikes looked awesome (I did prefer the lines of the Aussie one as it looked more practical). Only two teams qualified as bike builders and only one built it all (bar the engine/trans of course).

Please name a part that the USA team used off the shelf that the Aussies did not also use off the shelf? The taillight? You are dead right about Exile though.
@googleanti-speech7618
@googleanti-speech7618 2 жыл бұрын
None of the American parts were off the shelf. America outsources most things into multiple jobs. Like the aussie said his shop was the only shop that could make everything there. And its not because he has fancy tech, its the opposite, he just uses hard work. Which is good and bad in the modern era, bad for him, good for us. The Americans had parts made from outside factories, (again america likes to specialize in one thing and sell it to everyone) this is mostly that capitalist's ideals shining through, where we try to do the best at one thing for the cheapest possible price under local living standards. The result is, instead of a single builder doing it all, a single designer designs it, and multiple "builders" will be outsourced and worked with cooperatively and then they will finish the job.

I’m sorry but when you allow a contest to be judged by a bunch of drunk spectators, your gonna get it wrong. Now the Martin bros. bike was an outstanding build NO QUESTION ABOUT IT!! But in as much as they built it custom, they still didn’t go through what the Australia team did. You see, EVERY SINGLE INCH OF THAT bike was custom cast aluminum polished to the specs of a fine Swiss watch. The contest should be judged by qualified builders that know what they are talking about. NOT by a bunch of easily impressed inebriated Yahoos that are judging them on pretty paint and striping. C’mon are you kidding me?? EVERY SINGLE PART OF THE AUSSIE build was built by hand. Did you see how thick the fender material was?? Or how beefy those handlebars were? Everything about that build SCREAMED high quality. The winner and the English bobber were fine bikes for sure and I would feel privileged to own either of them. But my opinion and 45 years experience with custom work says: the Aussie testament CREAMED the other guys and that they won on beauty, technical prowess and all around perfection. If they were compared to watches: •Martin bike was a SEIKO •English bobber an Omega •Aussie bike is a ROLEX!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🏻

Im not one to say in a competition everyone gets a blue ribbon, but the Aussies had the extra challenge of a supply chain. Saying that, I would want the Brits to actually ride. The Americans definitely knew their crowd but built their hearts into that bike. Tough choice, but I voted for the Brits. The other two were just too flashy for me. I liked the way there was no cables on the bars. I didnt care for how wide the front tire was but it fit the build. For any of the hot rodders reading this, you know how tough it is to actually finish a project like this. The last 10% of the build takes 50% fo the time. All the builders stayed cool (or at least portrayed) not losing their shit and getting dramatic. A lifetime achievement in my humble opinion.

I was in the crowd with my lady and the general consensus was Australia would clearly take out the trophy purely because 98% of the bike was hand fabricated, the craftsmanship superb, and our isolation made importing parts highly restrictive, thus fabrication was Scottys only option.When the final count was taken, you knew right away Australia had lost.

Nope. Fantastic craftsmanship, but the styling was cheesy. Exile all of the way -- still looks good after all these years (and probably still functions) while the other two instantly looked dated. I remember watching this when it originally aired and thinking "these two bikes look like 2004 and no one will be doing this in a few years". And FWIW, I'm a huge Joe Martin fan and love his work on Iron Resurrection, but his style has changed a lot. I believe Scotty now makes baggers, and Russell still makes satin black tanks; which I think says it all.
