5'11 with a 30" inseam. My FJ09 was taller then this tiger... or at least it felt taller! I've gotten used to the height now though and haven't had many close call drops due to the height in a long time

Pretty well all I do is long distance. Ive done a 1k in a day (1600km) on it and even my fun trips are typically about 1000km per day. I set my cruise at about 135km/h and that revs a touch over 6000. Ive got over 20k now and havent quite owned it a year. No oil consumption. No issues whatsoever. There's several 100k and higher tigers out there. So they last!

@@AUTOT3KHCL that is some miles in 1 day. Good to hear. What is your fuel consumption when cruising at 135km/h?

@@michaelschneider3171 its harsh at that speed with loaded bags on. About 4.8L/100km. Normal cruising with minor speeding I can get 400km to a tank

@@AUTOT3KHCL i agree. For long distances i just put a front 17t sprocket to some 400/500 relief. I don't miss power in low gears. Nice bike.

@@pimpthyride First world issues but for that kind of money I'd get a low mileage Tiger 1050 mod it and a couple of Daytona 955i's and still have plenty to spend on helmets leathers boots food and fuel !!!

@@sichere Nice, There is a Triumph Tiger Sport 1050 from 2018 with 5700 Km for 11.800,00 EUR at my local dealer... Tempted, but I would like a new bike for once, and the dated display of the Tiger Sport 1050 is a real turn off. And after adding top and side cases I would be at 13700 EUR... the price of a new Yamaha Tracer 900 GT or the Tiger 800 XRT.

I didn't because I already had a sport touring bike at the time, no it wasn't comparable to the multistrada but I wanted a full blown adv bike rather then a sport tourer with adv features

I ended up grabbing a Saddlemen Adventure Track seat and I had them wrap it in a water proof leather. I did another 1k (1673km) ride about a month ago with it and it was way better then the OE seat. More pricey for sure but I have no regrets about my purchase

been running mine for just on 15k kms now and she is a beaut - done a fair amount of dirt and the suspension really saved my ass in some deep sand and deep ruts out in South Africa and we ride 365 days of the year - stuck on some soft luggage and this girl tours at highway speeds all day without causing any aches and pains for my 60yr old body - with speed control and the seat on high setting she will just gobble up the miles also use her for marshalling bike and cycle races - lots of slow speed stuff and with her great balance and torquey motor she copes very well even if she does tend to try and fry your inside leg with engine heat - nothing that a bit of standing on the footpegs can't cure and with those generous standard-issue pegs riding while standing on the pegs is actually preferred (great vision to spot cagers trying to kill the cyclists you're protecting) came to the tiger after 30yrs of tar riding (last bike was a 1200R and I loved that bike) - but this tiger has met and exceeded all my expectations

@@zeuszoegutsy Hi, thanks for your comment about your bike, I am very seriously considering the Tiger 800 (not too sure if it will be XCA or XRT yet) and as a 55 year old rider great to hear a veteran rider thoughts. I am not one of these "naked" bike types who only rides a stripped down bike, I like a bit of comfort and technology , heated grips and seats, cruise control, rider modes, traction control and ABS, I like to be comfortable when I ride. You have confirmed my thoughts on the Tiger, thanks.

@@petercarston3163 glad you are considering the Tiger and that my views contributed I have no hesitation in recommending the 800 and my choice of the XCA was swayed by the fact that I venture onto dirt tracks (in South Africa we ask tongue-in-cheek "what did we have before dirt roads? Tarred roads" :-) ) do consider that the WP suspension on the XCA does IMO make a huge difference in terms of road holding and comfort. While my hardcore ADV buddies will say it is too soft for the dirt, for my small stature/lightweight it is perfect and lets the bike do it's thing while I'm standing up on the pegs the adjustable seat settings (on both bikes) also lets me get both feet flat in the low position when I'm doing the gnarly bits and in the high position, my legs get a lovely stretch when highway cruising/touring while still allowing both feet to touch albeit on the toes don't rush out to get a GPS - Triumph has a software update coming thru in October and it will put Google Maps nav onto the main instrument display via BT on your mobile - I fitted a GPS only because of the dirt tracks - we are doing Lesotho and the Sani Pass end-September once the snow has melted and before the rainy season starts finally, had a tubeless conversion done (love spoked rims on a bike but hate repairing tubed tyres) - IMO not speccing the XCA with tubeless like the new 1200 Scrambler, was an oversight on Triumph's part (probably some accountant getting involved again) let us know when you've got your ride - best regards and be safe out there

@@zeuszoegutsy Thanks for all the info, I too thought is was a missed opportunity for Triumph not go tubeless as part of the new upgrade as there were quite a few comments about it on the 2017 model. I also might go tubeless is it a big and expensive job? I am in NZ, but don't plan on getting on till the summer as I am about to move back to the South Island so I can really enjoy the scenery back home also because NZ has really expensive bike registration (about $600pa) due to our government accident insurance. Good advice on the GPS, thanks. Enjoy you trip to Lesotho, Africa must be a magical place to ride in.

@@AUTOT3KHCL They were purchased at two different dealerships. Also, my thruxton died on the road with 400 miles on the clock. Triumphs just aren't reliable. They're fantastic bikes but simply do have QC issues.

Conversely, I've had a Street Triple R (2013) and a Tiger 800 XRT (2018) and had absolutely zero problems, I have friends too who have had Triumphs with no problems either . I've learned that people just like to write off an entire brand because of unfortunate experiences. End of the day, your experience isn't evidence that Triumph are terrible. I had an FJ09 (MT09 Tracer here in the UK) and had no mechanical problems with it either, I sold it for my Tiger though as the vibrations were horrible on the Tracer. Never had problems with any brand of bike, maybe I got lucky. End of the day, there is no one brand that is far more reliable than another. There are always issues for a minority who get unlucky.

I really have no complaints about the original windscreen. It drops down far enough to get air flow when its hot and when in the highest setting it blocks enough for those -2C rides to work in the fall and spring. However I do notice if its really windy out it'll allow some buffeting on my helmet which can get annoying. If I'm doing a big ride I'll clip on an extension to prevent the buffeting and then if it gets hot i can simply fold that extension down

I did trade the FJ09 in on the tiger. I basically walked away from it clean, which is about as good as it gets for trade ins around here. If the market is good in your area I'd say try selling private and if you have no luck then consider the trade in

With being fairly built I'd probably be close to 240 lbs all geared up. Add in 30-40 lbs of luggage and I've never had any issues getting to suspended license speeds real quick haha. Sometimes I may or may not set my cruise control at 140km/h going through the mountains and never have an issue maintaining speed. So the 800 works perfect for my needs!
