This is fantastic! I would only recommend for you to put the cords up as they go by so we can follow along for those of us that don't have the songs memorized yet. You do so at one point in the video at 8:20 minutes in and it's very helpful to follow the shapes that way. Thanks much for this though!

Well done Achim - you have presented a systematic and logical approach to working across these changes which, judging by the other comments posted here, has been of great help to many other aspiring jazz improvisers - but what I love most of all the fantastic tone you get from your beautiful Gibson guitar - if ever you visit London you are welcome to visit me - we would have a ripping time !

This is really helping me. I'm preparing to do an audition with my fretless electric bass guitar. On the guide tone step, is there any particular reason why you are choosing some chords to be inverted and does it matter? I've always been arpeggiating in root position. Thanks!
@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar4 жыл бұрын
If you are always arpeggiating arpeggios from the root, it's boring, to keep the solo interesting you have to change the position. But If you are comping with your bass, the root will be your first choice.

@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sonny, it's a Gibson ES-137 Custom, build 2012, this model is not in production anymore, maybe you get a used one on ebay. The red guitar I'm using it's a Duesenberg Double Cat, it's from a german guitar company.

im an amateur clsssical guitarist who just started learning jazz frlm jody fisher book. Should i learn this and comping lesson besides the book at this point? is this lesson(s) doable for beginners?
@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar5 жыл бұрын
No, it's not for beginners, I think you should better start with my C Minor Jazz Blues Lesson kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aKdzp9Jhy77Hlo0.html or with my series "How to improvise - Part 1-8" kzfaq.info/sun/PLGSQLUOdi3SmSjKI0E4fzAdo2J5XJXhVQ , that will improve your playing step by step. @@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar yep and from a practice point of view its making me think about hitting the chord tones rather than just remembering the fingering
@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar5 жыл бұрын
You're right, I don't think about fingerings, I only think about the chord notes during improvising. But you need to learn where are the notes on the fretboard, that's the key . . .

@@AchimKohl-JazzGuitar totally agree, learning the notes on the fret board is really helping me, next to develop chord tone eyes
