Flight time 5 or 6 minutes, charge time 20 minutes from USB charger or 45 minutes from the transmitter. Very stable and fast, looks great, mostly metal frame.
It has fans on either side that control left right roll, a fan on the rear that controls forward reverse motion, and coaxial rotors that keep it stable and control yaw, it's a lot of fun, and it's very precise, but it is mode 4, meaning throttle and roll are on the left stick and spin and forward reverse are on the right stick, if you've been flying mode 2 for a long time it'll take a little getting used to, but if you've only flown 3 channel helicopters it wont be any different then the controls your used to.

I remember when I saw this helicopter demostration 12 years ago, when I had my helicopter avatar dark blue, it was pretty awesome, and now in 2022 that I'm watching this video back, it's very nostalgic to see the past with this video!!

Yes they do. I took that one back. Mode 4 is the standard for toy grade 3 channel helis and they seem to have carried it over into the 4 channels too.
@taoistflyer
@taoistflyer 11 жыл бұрын
That's correct, in the US we usually have spin and thrust on the left stick and forward back left right on the right stick. You will need to get used to a mode 2 controller eventually but with time you'll have no trouble getting the hang of it.
@taoistflyer
@taoistflyer 13 жыл бұрын
@scrapkilla321 that was the first thing that i tried, but each stick is soldered directly to a small integrated circuit board so you cant just pull the wires off and switch them around, also the right stick circuit board has the trim knob soldered directly to it but the left stick circuit board has just the stick soldered to it, so one uses 2 wires and one uses 3.
@taoistflyer
@taoistflyer 12 жыл бұрын
@509g1 you get about a 5 min flight off a full charge, the side fans are heavy and use a lot of power. If your curious as to why I hold my sticks that way it comes from flying 3D, you can't let your fingers slip even for a second so you need the extra grip especially during spinning flips and such.

@poveyno1 when moving forward or backwards it will want to spin, you must manually correct for it as the pilot. you can trim it out a little bit but the rest is up to the pilot.

@Sneakydud2 that is common among these small coaxial helicopters, without a good gyro it has trouble going straight when moving forward, it is usually up to the pilot to correct for that. I've seen it a lot and it can be frustrating, the trim can affect it a little bit. but a good gyro and good software will usually cure the problem.

@bousi01 the extra motors on the wings do add extra weight and take up extra power, but it says a lot for battery technology that it can even fly. Mine has maybe a 5 or 6 minute flight time

@bassbugg7 thanks for watching, we love having you as a viewer. mode one and mode 2 refers to what the transmitter sticks control. in mode 2 thrust up and down as well as yaw (spin left right) is on one stick and the other stick controls left right drift and forward reverse motion. in mode 1 throttle and left right drift are on one stick and forward reverse motion and spin (yaw) is on the other stick.

@Retro6502 Thank you for the correction, mode 4 is good for people who are used to a 3 channel heli format, I ended up flying this one more like a 3 channel but i prefer mode 2, I like all my cyclic control to be on the same stick for 3D flight and quick turns.
@taoistflyer
@taoistflyer 12 жыл бұрын
@Amp1tude if it is a 4 channel helicopter with a mode 2 transmitter then swaying (rolling) left right is controlled by the right stick moving left and right, if it's a 3 channel then their's no roll left right.. I've been flying 4 channel aircraft for 5 years but I never stop learning, I love using a simulator to practice with, it makes all the difference. It can take a few months to be really confident with your flight skills but if you keep at it you'll find it becomes second nature.

@Afrocanuk the fan on either side idea is one that's been around for a while, it's just recently that the battery tech can handle it, i think they just wanted to show it's possible.
@taoistflyer
@taoistflyer 13 жыл бұрын
@dibber1145 i really is stable and fast, and if you can fly a 3 ch heli then you can fly this one since the control set up is basically the same. I think that the reason this one is mode 1 is they basically modified a 3 ch transmitter, which has yaw and pitch on the left.
@taoistflyer
@taoistflyer 13 жыл бұрын
@Sneakydud2 it should have trim buttons or knobs to affect the spin trim, and maybe one to affect the left right roll, but their is a certain amount of correction the pilot has to do.

@xenor77 No unless you point the TX right at it and stay close to it, the sun light will block the IR signal pretty well.
@taoistflyer

@ghernandezyt I haven't dun it before but if i do I'll post a video. although the lights really don't drain enough power to reduce flight time in in noticeable way. A good way to increase flight time is to decrease the overall weight by pulling off anything you can.

Thanks for the great review! I ordered one of these and I'm looking forward to getting it. I just wanted to point out that the controls as you described them are known as Mode 4. Mode 1 has the throttle on the right hand stick. I actually prefer Mode 4 because I've spent a lot of time flying 3 channel helicopters which is essentially the same as this, but without the aileron (pan left / pan right) controls. :) Thanks again, look forward to more of your reviews!

@erikatvdriver technicly mode one is throttle on the right stick, roll on the right stick. forward reverse pitch and yaw on the left stick. I was calling it mode one because the throttle and roll are on the same stick. usually mode has the throttle on the right.
@taoistflyer
@taoistflyer 13 жыл бұрын
@DiggerPete1961 it is possible but a little expensive and difficult to do, it takes some searching to find the right battery and some soldering. the avatar is actually very easy to hover, but you don't use the 4th channel much because of the way the TX is set up, so you are almost just as good with the 3 channel one.

@iBOOTYCLAPER it seams like the wires on one of the motors are switched or plugged in backwards if both motors are spinning the same direction, you need to reverse the polarity of the motor that's spinning the wrong way by switching its positive and negative wires, the wires may have just been plugged in to the control board backwards at the factory. you may be able to pull off the canopy, unplug the cable and flip it around, hopefully the wires don't need to be soldered.
@taoistflyer

@poohtray I guess it sort of makes since in helicopter pylon racing since you want full speed and quick turns, most of you control can be dun with one stick.

Most electornics stores sell usb wall chargers, a lot of cell phones use them, I've even seen them sold at places like cvs pharmacy. Longer lasting batteries are difficult, usually pulling weight off the helicopter will extend flight times.

@britinozoz the side "avatar" rotors really work, they are responsible for the left right strafing motion. they do add weight, but they make it a true 4 channel aircraft, i can't really afford the s107 right now but i do want to do a review on it and a number of other aircraft.
@taoistflyer

@dpart84 5 minutes is the max flight time, try using the USB charger to charge the heli it may give you a longer flight.
@taoistflyer
@taoistflyer 12 жыл бұрын
@509g1 It really depends on the person, if you learned on a 3 channel first then you may transition to mode 1 better then someone who learned on a 4 channel mode 2 heli first. I personally like mode 2 when it comes to 4 channel flight, it seams more logical. i still find myself resisting the urge to roll the aircraft when I'm flying a 3 channel or mode 1.
@taoistflyer

@hyperactiveheli123 check your wires make sure nothing is disconnected, spin the motor and make sure it isn't sticking it may just be a broken wire, the tail blade may be pushed on to tight, or the motor may need to be replaced.
@taoistflyer
@taoistflyer 12 жыл бұрын
@thetarpman Make sure you aren't trying to fly it outside because the infra red signal will be blocked by the sun or bright lights. on this helicopter the left stick controls throttle and left right motion and the right stick controls spin and forward reverse.

@taoistflyer

@Sneakydud2 3 ch means you control /up down/ left right spin/ and forward reverse motion/, a forth channel adds left right roll (drift), a 4 channel is really the only way to learn to fly.

@skills2185 I would suggest the E-flight MSR, it takes some skill but it's got the whole package. interchangeable rechargeable batteries, dual rates for beginners and advance pilots. Great at both fast speed for outdoor flight and slow speed for indoor flight. 2.4 GHz transmitter that is interchangeable with a large number of aircraft. And it's made by a well known company with a good reputation for high quality reliable products. But keep in mind I like small aircraft and it's tiny.

This is a great flying machine.very stable I now use a peak detection charger with it and after 50 min charge it takes around 170 MAmps and I get between 6/7min flight time.The model comes well packed in a strong carton,not like the S107 that comes in a bubble pack that will get damaged in the post. I believe that the Avatar model is very good value Happy Landings Chris................

To change channels, first turn on the helicopter, next turn the transmitter to the channel you want to use, Last turn on the transmitter and raise and lower the throttle. The helicopter will receive a signal from the transmitter, It will link it to whatever channel you have selected. This is a feature on some I.R. helicopters but not all, try it out and see if it works.

I'm pretty sure that this transmitter is capable of changing modes. The one for my 4-channel Drift King is. With the control off, turn power on heli. Then press and hold both buttons in at the top while turning on control. While still holding buttons in, try throttle to "bind" control to heli. Do this while standing appx 5' from heli. Hope it works because this is to be the next heli added to my "fleet"!
