All of the hard work others have done to get these birds to me has finally paid off (spoiler alert, one bird does not make it to their permanent home with me).

I am so sorry the little boy died, but it must be such a stressful thing for any little bird to be shipped. But it's great that you have someone who has a male for the girl to be paired up with. You never know you may get another pair of these beautiful little birds in the future. But I am so looking forward to seeing more of the gorgeous Parrotfinches. As you know I have never kept any of these little birds, but if ever I am lucky enough to do so in the future,I would love to keep these little beauties, they are stunning. And friendly too, that makes them ever better 💚❤ As always An thank you so much for sharing your wonderful videos with us all. I so look forward to watching each and every episode you make. Take care x

It’s good to know these species are still in aviculture. I remember when they used to come into the country on a regular basis. Sure wish I was a better breeder back then. I’m still optimistic that we’ll see these special imports again. Anyway, I’m glad you have them. It’s breeders like yourself that keep these species going.

For better life in aviaries, digital timers should be set up for indoors cages birds with automatic sunrise and sunset because as you may know , your birds too need sleeping and rest and also feeling seasons changing from winter to spring with minutes increasing everyday in order to anticipate the breeding season. //
@Echosaviary
@Echosaviary Жыл бұрын
Not sure if this is a question or not, but I set the individual timers to go on and off over the course of about a half hour. i don’t think this is convincing to the birds as sunrise and sunset, but it makes the transition less harsh and maybe that lets them go to bed and wake up with some ease. I do not find that increasing/decreasing daylight to be an important trigger for the species I keep. At 20 deg latitude, daylight varies by about 2 hours over the course of the year. For that reason I do not adjust the timers regularly but maintain a constant 14 hour day (plus outside daylight affects).
@goldfinch12
@goldfinch12 Жыл бұрын
@@Echosaviary It all depends if you 're breeding them are not, some birds keepers enjoy them in their livingrooms and keep their birds up all year around till they go to bed .Keep in mind, a combination of a long day hours and a warmer birdroom will result in a constant molting of the birds. it was just an advise, that's all, i live in the east coast, i rase Mutations Goldfinches imported from Europe, and belgian waterslagers canaries. i breed them modestly in spring every year, so time and rest is very important to these species based on my 20 years of experience. Cheers/

Many years ago I was involved in african finches imports. It is incredible to hundreds of birds in one large cage. They are stressing out a bit. Some dying and some dead. Not much can be done in those holding places. Tough part is already the way they been handled by collectors. Natives do not see them as that much. That is something which is around and concept of keeping them for any reason is strange to them. I am surprised that these finches are still imported.
@Echosaviary
@Echosaviary Жыл бұрын
These birds were imported from European breeders, not wild caught.
@Spacenow869
@Spacenow869 Жыл бұрын
@@Echosaviary to clarify. I was not critical of imports. Of any kind. Just sharing my experience. Imports from wild is complex issue and extreme regulations will destroy this hobby. It ended Hook bill imports. Evn with all those restrictions african gray ,for instance s disappearing in wild. Used to be like a sparrow . Now one can hardly see it. Locals are killing those birds en mass. They have hope to sell them but in the process hundreds die. I have seen it with my own eyes while living in Africa for while. Pretty brutal.. Finches will end up the same.
@Echosaviary
@Echosaviary 5 ай бұрын
yes, there are many layers to consider. The species I keep are all of least concern with respect to CITES and many are considered pests in their native lands. They are perceived to have little value in some cases. Although they are no longer imported into the US from wild caught specimens, the bird hobby is not the only pressure wild populations face. They are also disappearing in US aviculture as the hobby becomes more difficult and more expensive. I feel very fortunate to be able to care for and learn about these species while I can but I have no illusions that I am doing conservation work or that they will be available in 10 years or even 5.
