Here’s what it all means: To enter the instrument cluster self diagnostic mode with the engine off, depress and hold the trip/odometer reset button. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position and hold until test appears in the display area (within five to eight seconds). Once the test appears release the trip/odometer reset button within three seconds. Depress the trip/odometer reset button once to advance to each stage of the self-test. Turn the ignition to the OFF position to exit the instrument cluster Self-Diagnostic Mode. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Hahaha “my dash is in stealth mode” Hahaha. Go get your cluster repaired, it’s not a stealth mode.

Hey did you ever figure out how to make your milage area brighter? i have the same issue with mine? Is it just a dying bulb or an actual setting that can be adjusted?

my 97 p71.analog instrument panel is black out.checkt the fuse s.replacet a bad dimmer switch.but the speedo still won't light up.any thoughts on this?

When switching to digital will you still be able to access odo and trip

I work on a fleet of crown Victoria’s almost every car we have from 06 and up had that problem then progressed to all of the gauges and lights would work intermittently. If you get your gauge cluster rebuilt it will work perfect. It’s not a stealth mode

I just bought a 2009 CVPI and this worked perfectly on my car. Just wish there was a way to keep it in that mode while shutting off the engine and restarting. Nevertheless, thanks a million for this tip, I'm new to CVPI's and love digital speedometers.

yeah its pretty cool.. All Fords do this in cluster diagnostic mode though.. not just CVs

Is there a way to get it the digital speedometer to stay? It seems to require manually setting every time you start the car.

My 07 white vic has the same problem your cluster has with the dimming. Sometimes when I start the car I can see it well, other times only in the dark. From the research I’ve done, the cluster needs to be resolder the connections on the back of the cluster.

That's an awesome hack, never would have even thought that was possible without complete digital conversion

Good hack you need those other codes ! We owned a 1993 Ford SHO Taurus police package The codes read out over the tape player fluorescent digital red out, So get that info out here. I am sure that is the number and letter codes you are seeing.
