I love azelaic acid! I’ve used paulas choice and the ordinary and they’re comparable but PC is a bit more elegant. It’s amazing for reducing redness, PIE, evening the skin tone. No irritation, no dryness, honestly best ingredient I’ve ever used!

My skin is mature but extremely oily. I use the Ordinary's Azelaic Acid and it gives my skin the smoothest, blurring effect with no dryness. It normalizes all the oiliness literally until I wash it off, best feeling, ever! I alternate my routine with some heavier serums for antiaging and no Azelaic Acid because I experience 'pilling' when layering several products sometimes and am unsure of where it goes in the layering order. Admittedly, my skin FEELS best with Azelaic Acid (having extremely oily skin my whole life I'm not into the glowy, overly hydrated look & feel) but I also feel the need for serums and other actives for more mature, aging skin concerns/prevention. I just discovered you with this video so hopefully I'll find one that addresses how to incorporate the antiaging products with Azelaic acid comfortably(w/o pilling) and properly. Your skin is beautiful! Needless to say, I'm a new subscriber!😊✨Let the binge watching begin!☕💻😅

I’m a FaceTheory addict now because of you! lol I recently got their azelaic acid serum and I’m already seeing amazing results after just a week of use. I am using other FT products but I think the main thing I’ve noticed is that it’s mattified my skin. I use it in the morning and since I’ve start using it I’m definitely not getting as oily throughout the day as usual! And my skin tone has really evened out as I’m easily prone to redness. It’s fantastic!

I started out with the Face Theory 15% about 3 weeks ago and use it mostly on my nose/t-zone. I use it once a day in the morning and overall seems to be going well. A bit of initial purging I think, I don't have acne prone skin (combination dry on cheeks and under eyes but am a bit oilier in my tzone/nose area). But the redness on my nose seems to be going down a little bit so I'm definitely going to keep using it to see the results over the next few months.

My skin is lookin pretty good right now and balanced. Tip: The best thing I’ve learned is if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I’ve ruined my skin time and time again trying new products…only thing I’ll probably do in the future is micro needling when i can afford it to improve the texture :)
@andrewpersaud4144
@andrewpersaud4144 2 жыл бұрын
Very good point. A common theme you see in product reviews is "omg my face was perfect (or insert any problem free description) and this product made my entire face breakout".... it's like, why are you actively using new products if you don't even need them? I think some people are just addicted. A lot of people don't know irritation can cause acne. They assume it's dirt, bacteria, oil, clogged pores etc. They overlook the fact that even one ingredient that your skin can't adjust to or has a reaction to is enough to damage it, either instantaneously or gradually. Then in response it fires back with pimples and cysts.

Totally agree. One tip about micro needling, don't buy the roller as that actually drags and tears the skin (micro tears) but buy a pen type that punches directly into the skin, this mimics similar tools skin specialists use. And lastly research research research :)

Azelaic Acid is hands down one of the most beautiful molecules for skin, right there with Niacinamide and Retinoic Acid. I started using 10% gel in January and while it didn't give me enough results it built my tolerance. Now I use 20% micronised in gel formula everyday and though it's only been two months I already see a healthy glow and smoother skin so much so that my boyfriend even complimented me for my skin. Keep in mind, this is coming from a person who suffered with hormonal acne for most of her life and cystic acne up until 2019. I have acne scars and had probably the worst skin among all siblings. Not the case anymore.😊😊

@@stephaniedalton9530 No. This has only happened once to me, when I applied it to raw skin right after exfoliating. Are you using it right after exfoliating or using any sort of enzymatic/aha/BHA peels or acids, maybe even a strong Vitamin C? Maybe cut back on those or wait till your next routine or till your skin has healed? La roche posay cicaplast balm is great for healing the skin barrier in a whim. Take Care.

I love Skinoren. It is available without prescription in my country and I only regret I haven't bought it earlier. It is super cheap, around 8-9 euros, and the texture is amazing, no piling at all. I have noticed that is stinks on my skin only in places where my skin is compromised - fox example, after hair plugging around the brows and the mouth. Otherwise, it is pretty great and effective. To be honest, I had more irritation and redness/flushing on my skin from using Paula's Choice Azelaic Booster or Dr.Sam Brightly.

I'm an aza-layperson. It's only been 3 months for me. I started with TO 10% and didn't love it. It wasn't the consistency, which I know some hate as it's really silicon-ey. It was the fact that I saw no results, nada, after an entire tube. So I upgraded to azaclear 15% by facetheory and so far, so good. It's too early to be sure but I think my face is a bit smoother (I have rosacea and quite textured, bumpy skin). It hasn't reduced the redness or decreased the duration of flare-ups (yet) but I've got plenty left and I can wait. I find it's really important to distribute a thin layer evenly, as it tries to clump up around my nose, and I avoid my under-eyes with it, as Dr Sam says to do that, and I do everything she tells me. I think I'll stick with this product for a good few bottles before considering going up the percentage.

My dermatologist recently prescribed a 20% pure azelaic acid to be used after using my salicylic acid and aloe vera facial cleanser and I literally had to stop because of how itchy it made my face for about five minutes after applying it. I've been on a treatment for acne for about a year and a half now and this is supposed to be the last leg of my treatment but man, I HATE applying this. Thank you for this video, I'm gonna try placing it in the fridge for a few hours before I apply it to see if the irritation is less. I know that about after a week or so of applying it the irritation should stop but it's been two weeks and I just can't stand it. I hope this helps!

It's good that you often recommend this ingredient on your channel, Rob 👍🏻 After all, it is one of the most medically studied ingredients after retinoids. I use The Ordinary Azelaic Acid every weekday night at the end of my routine after my retinol and before Cicaplast B5 moisturizer. I use it mainly for its anti bacterial effects, although anti hyperpigmentation is welcome too. I have never experienced dry skin but the hydration part of my routine is pretty hardcore to prepare for retinol 😂. I keep it in my fridge for storage but did not know it was better for the application so I have learned something new. 😃👍🏻 And I like the silky finish of TO's silicon-based product, but I know there's no consensus. 🤣

I can relate to the experience with Skinoren. It felt drying and irritating, but at the time I started it, my skincare wasn't as good as now in terms of hydration. I now use finacea and quite like it. When I use it in the evening, my skin is more even toned and have way less redness in the morning - I find it very effective for little redness I have on my cheeks - not so much for pie which is my main concern though. I layer azelaic on top of a moisturiser to reduce dryness/tingling.

You are just too sweet, I must say, I was always intrigued by azaleic acid but I thought I don't need it because my skin is not acne prone, but God I was wrong, I decided to give it a try, I would say I have balance skin and every month I get those pescky little pricks on my face, I don't do anything besides let then be, but once they are gone my skin still has PIE or PIH, so I decided to finally try azaleic acid, and OMG 😱!! Best decision ever!! Love it, love it, all the PIH is almost gone and I only been using it for a month, my skin is less red around the nose area and I guess I don't have sensitive skin because I didn't experience tingling or irritation, nothing! At the moment I am using the Facetheorie and I will repurchase over and over! Haha 😂 Lots of love 💕

I purchased the face theory azeclear based on one of your earlier videos. I tried to power through the tingling and itching but for me lasted so long (in excess of 10 minutes) I end up needing to wash it off. So glad you've posted this video. Just popped it in the fridge and used first step after cleaner (watched Dr Sam straight after this and that was her recommendation) instead of last step in routine....woah. Basically no tingling at all. I'll give the azeclear another shot!

How has marrying the two (lactic and azealic) worked out for you? I'm stuck between incorporating either azealic/mandelic acid or the ordinary ascorbic acid 8% and alpha arbutin 2% Aside from large pores, I have major hyperpigmentation and I don't know what would work better. I've heard the mandelic is a bit harsh to the skin. Is the lactic gentler than the azealic acid?

Dermatica’s 20% AA is my new favourite! I had previously used FaceTheory’s 15% but Dermatica seems to work even better to me. There’s some initial dryness but it’s in a lightweight ceramide-rich cream which makes their 20% AA surprisingly mild and tolerable on my rosacea skin. I haven’t experienced any irritation upgrading from 15% to 20% just dryness.

Yeah Rob, I also had quite a lot of sensitivity using the 20% & now just use it occasionally for flare-ups of rosacea or redness cuz it’s quite effective for that. Right now, I use Paula’s Choice. I find it’s the best one to use before moisturizer, but does it eliminate ALL redness for me? No. I may try the Face Theory one, But I like the ingredients in the PC one - with licorice root & maybe low % of SA. And the creaminess of it is kinda nice.

@@NYS30 yes, I experienced purging but not for too long. During the first month I experienced stinging and itching when the cream was applied, and it was hard not to touch or scratch my face. After about a month the itching completely went away. Azelaic acid speeds up your skin cell turnover rate - this makes microcomedones turn into acne and blemishes more quickly, causing a sudden rush of breakouts on your face.

Hi Rob I started with azelaic acid around three years ago. I first used the one from TO, but really didn't like the texture for my dry, rosacea and eczema prone skin. I did try the one from paula's choice after that (there were far fewer options back then) and liked it ok, but my skin isn't all that happy with the salicyllic acid in that product and I could only use it a few times a week. It's also quite expensive, so I did a bit of research and found the now discontinued azelaic acid from garden of wisdom 10%. It was slightly gritty, but worked well enough and was affordable. They reformulated to use the azelaic acid derivative mentioned and it was far more pleasant to use. I moved onto the Apad (same derivative as the GOW) which is even more affordable and slightly better in texture. I've been using that one for nearly a year and if I want a bit more I'll also use the azelaic acid 5% moisturiser from revolution at the same time. I want to leave the stronger percentages for later, as rosacea is a chronic condition that will probably worsen over the years. This is enough for right now and I'm happy with it. I use it either every day or every second day - depending what else i'm using in my routine. It has helped with the redness, but I also get an oral medication from my GP so it's not just the AA helping. Best wishes.

I have never used AA only because I don’t think it is an ingredient that I need. I don’t have any acne, I can’t remember when I had a pimple last. I am 48 with slightly dry and dehydrated skin, my skin isn’t sensitive so I don’t know why I should be using it. I do suffer from severe flushing when I get hot or stressed but it isn’t rosacea. I have had that confirmed by a dermatologist which actually suggested using blood pressure medication to manage it, however I have not been back to see them to figure out what they would prescribe me for it.

I'm just coming out of a massive string of stress-related breakouts which have left many marks, and while it's still early and it may all be in my head, I swear some of the marks already look a little smoother and my healthy skin a little brighter. I opted for G&G since it's a derivative that I've have heard may be a more gentle introduction to azelaic acid, and the price! Depending on how I respond to the aPAD, I may or may not move on to the Paula's Choice booster, but for now, I'm pretty happy with the aPAD, and with G&G as a whole!
