@@crazysilly2914 no he was planning to sell a few at a time on gunbroker to keep the prices high and create artificial scarcity. The starting bid was $7,500 if recall correctly. He only decided to sell them in his gun store AFTER receiving backlash.

James, there’s something you need to check out here at Shot Show. I work at the RAM booth and went to the Palmetto booth, and they have a had a replica version of the Zenitco PT1 stock. I spoke with some of the guys there and they said that they will be producing the stock. They also mentioned how they will be producing the SVD and also had a flash hider similar to the Delta Tech MPI (no baffle shroud though)

I remember PSA talking about bringing an SVD to market, but that was way back before they had even released the AK74. I figured it was all hypothetical since they also said they would be making an MP5 clone... and we all know how well that's been going.

Then PSA found out they couldn't make certain parts to spec in house. and went looking for contractors. they had to circle back to FEG and then the HD-18 debacle happened and FEG seemed to pull away from the american market until the announcement today.

@@theheatinferno8420 the spiker takes zero R&D to produce, and the StG-44 they're selling was designed by HMG ~5 years ago, not PSA. PSA cannot simply will a gun into existence. They have to find a group of people that actually know how to machine SVD parts that aren't already banned from importation (Russia, China).

Think of it this way. Pay say $6k when it's new coming into the country. The day it's stopped being imported, and they will. And I doubt they'll be imported for long. The value will at least triple.

Estimates are less than 500 full sized russian made ones. These are the ones that go for $30K. There were 1500 Chinese made ones in 54R and 1500 Chinese ones in .308 imported. Those are the ones going for $10-15K. 100 FEG HD-18s which were around $5-6K. The hunting length TIGR carbines I don't have any numbers on.

Well, 100 real Russian svds were imported years ago they sell for like 25k. Russian TIGR rifle?, Chinese NDM? 100 FEG svd through copper. I dont know if we are aware of how many TIGR rifles and NDMs were brought in. If anybody knows please chime in.

MAC will buy all of them and prices will get stupid just like the Russian ones. I had the Chinese NDM 86 years ago and it was covered in Russian proof marks but some were "sanitized". It was a decent shooter as long as you let the barrel stay cool. 10 -15 rounds and the groups would spread just like a PSL. I would love to have the FEG version but 6k is way out of the question.

Most likely new production. FEG went through an additional investigation with the ATF when pissed off folks started spreading rumors that the previous batch of HD-18s were made from left over Soviet parts. ATF found no evidence of that fact and released the rifles from Trident to Copper Customs. FEG was talking about bringing other products to market before the HD-18 debacle.

@@crazysilly2914 Yes,it does have to do with the MAC/Copper Custom/Trident controversy. HD-18 was the FEG SVD rifle designation for that batch of rifles. I am assuming the designation hasn’t changed.

6k is crazy, but it’s the market due to the few are in. I hope more companies will import them and we will see prices drop to mid 2k level. ( without optic)

The problem with that is that the 2 countries that were previously importing them are now under sanctions (Russia and China). One country tried to import theirs but couldn’t prove they didn’t have Soviet parts in them (Poland). Hungary is the only country that went through the process to document that each part of this rifle was made in their country. The domestic companies that have tried to make SVDs here all stopped when the price per unit exceeded $5K.

It wasn't market. The AK files guys got these imported at a retail price of $3.6k originally before MAC stole them and scalped them for $7.5-23k on GunBroker, which is why the price is set so high now. MAC has singlehandedly ruined the market pricing for these through his own greed.

@@muwuny No we didn’t (#282 on the List). The $3.6K price was the one that we were told in the beginning. As we approached release date FEG moved the price up to around the $6K mark. Keep in mind I am going by memory here. Then Trident (The Importer) sold all the rifles to Copper Custom instead of the folks in the Forum.

@justanothergunnerd8128 I could afford it if I really wanted to but to spend that much on a system that will never really be a true precision system just seems nuts. For 6k you could do a lot better. I'd love to have one but more in the 3-4k range maybe.
