The Iraqi Al-Kadesiah rifle was named after a battle bearing the same name in 636 AD which marked a key point in the Islamic conquest of what is current-day Iraq and Iran. The naming of weapon systems whether it be small arms or missiles in Saddam's Iraq was often based on important events in history, religion, or geography so this odd naming scheme comes as no surprise.
When it comes to the 7.62x54mmR Al-Kadesiah, the rifle is a bit of a Dragunov derivative oddity. There is too much difference between it and the SVD that very little if any of the parts are interchangeable between the two weapon systems. In addition to the small differences, the magazine on the Al-Kadesiah actually has the stamping of a palm tree on the outer portions of it, uniquely identifying it as an Iraqi derivative rather than a Soviet or Chinese one. But the biggest difference was in the rear of the receiver where there are a series of rivets that actually hold two pieces of the receiver together. This is very different from any other production Kalashnikov, Dragunov variant or derivative out there today. This also happens to be possibly one of the worst design traits it has. It is supposed to be a precision rifle and this amount of flex that is in the receiver cannot contribute to any solid platform when it comes to accuracy and consistency.

Thank you I meant no slight (insult) it was more that iraqs ( "forgive me if I am overly persumtus with your nationality) where actually watching the video as when a video actually transcends cultures it tends to be a good sign as to accuracy. Unless it's antique you can't import anything that's a gun without having import marks on it. Autoloading military issued arms have tougher restrictions. Barrels and receivers have to be torched or the exporter has to claim they were never issued or pretend it's a new firearm by refurbing it in some way or something. Not something I've looked deeply into. Provided I don't get ghostblocked here's the relevant atf doc www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/guide/atf-guidebook-importation-verification-firearms-ammunition-and-implements-war/download

I have heard a story from 2 guys from 1-18th Infantry that came from Ramadi in 2007 escorting an Iraqi insurgent prisoner to Camp Cropper BIAP in March 2007. There was an insurgent sniper in Ramadi trying to do head shots at check points from their unit at night from a range of 300-400 meters. They don't know if he was an Iraqi or a Chechen. They said the sniper was very good because they haven't found him and killed him yet by their battalion counter snipers or the SF and SEAL guys in their AO. When my unit was in Sadr City during the "Surge" of late spring and early summer of 2007 with 4th ID. There were plenty of rumors of the "Baghdad Sniper" of 2006 going around. This guy would shoot from inside of parked cars in the trunk during the cold months like the "DC Snipers". I don't know if they ever got the guy doing it but it stopped when the "Surge" started and combat patrols really stepped up hunting, and raids in 2007. Every time we had a pre-patrol briefing we were shown the types of sniper rifles that were captured via Power Point OP Orders. Majority were SVD copies of Chinese origin, modified Mauser M48s, K98Ks, GEW98s fitted with Chinese copies of Dragunov scopes, Mosins of either M91/30s and M44s with PSO-1s. The insurgents and Al Quida wanted to fight like "Stalingrad Style" like they did in Ramadi and Falluja a couple of years before Sadr City along with the Mahdi Army who had Iranian support. There were just pot shots at short range all of the time like recon by fire majority of the time done by them. They did this at all times even when curfew was conducted after we locked down on civilian foot traffic after sundown. Hadji liked to play hell on us. They took lessons and put them of the battlefield from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc. Hadji has studied us very carefully just to make us miserable. They may not know the history but their Al Quida , Iranian, and Chechen advisors put them into use. The classic guerilla urban combat is what I saw back then from 2006-2008.

As I know, there was a marksman who used to use this rifle after the 2003 invasion. He used to be called the Sniper of Bagdad. He worked in the republic forces of sadam before invasion. He made so many confirmed kills against the marine till they surrounded him once in one of the high building in Iraq and they had to bombard him by tanks and Helicopters to put him down. He was a scary nightmare for so many. I don't know if you heared about him but I am sure that he wasn't a myth but a real story.

Combination of factors- Miles genuinely cares about the subject matter (both the firearms and the general context), he seems to have an endless well of knowledge, it's not a commonly discussed subject area, and (this is totally subjective on my part but I wouldn't be surprised if others thought the same) his voice/delivery is appealing. I really dig his content.

Hey, Miles, Great video, good info on clearing up some less known info. And also, where did you learn your Arabic pronunciation? It is quite advanced, as well as your ability to read. Seems more advanced than an average G.I. Joe, I almost would swear you have some familial upbringing, either ancestry, growing up abroad, or perhaps living in a community with large Arabic influence. I am half Arabic, with quite a bit of time in (7 trips = 2yrs of my life), and my pronunciation is sloppy, with limited literacy. I only pronounce like that in front of my grandmother, other old people, and when I want to buy something cheap in Palestine, Jordan, or a carry-out! lol Thanks for the video!

I’m from Iraq and I heard a lot of stories In 2003 the war was different the army was well trained and remember Iraq was under siege since1991 . We can’t buy new weapons or import weapons like new air defense system or Anti-armor. as I said everything was different the us went inside on top of died body. US Air Force sweep the road for them . you can check the war but in our side not U.S side check the airport battle, and what kind of weapon us used on the second battle after Iraqi army take over of airport again. Most of your info comes from Hollywood movies like American sniper 🤦🏻‍♂️ how can a sniper with army uniform like obviously he is the target do the job in the city and kill another sniper who was hiding and wear as a civilian 🤦🏻‍♂️ like it is hard to convince people who been in the army or end up in the middle of the war. As always Hollywood just create a hero . 😒 for Iraqi people there is a sniper and he was a hero as Americans called him juba. No one knows who he is because he hide his identity.

SVD is a 1MOA rifle with 7N1. Al Kadesiah probably only ever had standard ball/tracer/AP to be fed with... Surely 3 to 4 MOA accounting lower quality manufacture and crap ammo. Still deadly for a human at 500m. Some poor SVD surely don't do 1MOA constantly or ever, some extra good Al-Kad may reach the 1MOA with sniper ammo.

True SVDs (especially in syria, since syria had loads of true soviet weapons), this al kad thing, probably the iranian copy of SVD too (i think there is a licenced copy), and the usual PSL and maybe a few chinese SVDs.

The name of this sniper is (tabuk )as i know, the (kadsieh) is the name of an battle (in saddam army there is gifts given to the big ganerals by saddam and the name of battle that they won on it ) (take this serious and make sure😬 ,however,The translation from arabic and video was impressive ,in 2003 weapon the word was تدريب which mean for training (in the middle and the metal circle ⭕️) that weapon was glorious of our country and it used also after 2003 by (Baghdad sniper) who has so many kills in the Americans army and stories say that hes still alive ( he used unique technique not to find his place by marine)head shots for 2 or 3 in one attack (there is many videos for that )it also used by isis and qaida we saw that in our eyes good video keep going there is also the (tariq gun ) ak47 special and made in iraq 🇮🇶 by the Military Manufacturing of saddam army,if u need help on Arabic translations or iraqi weapons or army i can help (my father is Colonel in saddam army ) (i m proud of all that and nothing personal)

This honestly seems like it could potentially be easier than the SVD to make in the USA, if a company was so inclined.

Very cool video. I would love to know the story of how those came in to the US because they are so rare and import regulations and all. I don't get how we can get PSL's right now, but not the SVD clones. That's just politics. I bet those rifles could easily bring in a fortune at the right auction.

Imo it actually looks a little better than an SVD unless you get too close. Still would much rather have a NDM 86 for actual use.
