I asked Trey Harrison, one of the best Tetris players in the world, to take a stab at TETRIS EFFECT, the psychedelic new Tetris game from Rez and Lumines creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi - in pursuit of the coveted "DECAHEXATRIS."

Check out Trey's channel, ClassicTetris, on KZfaq: kzfaq.info...
Thanks again to Trey Harrison for joining me for this video!

it was the first time he was playing with a diferent controller than the nes, so he had to play to get good and stuff. but then he played in the vr version and he did a tetris made of 12 erased lines. he thought it was great.

Giant fan of VR (on PC for years), 100% it was only the latency due to their TV likely not being optimal for gaming (or outside game mode) and the profi player being used to playing the NES version likely on a CRT. But the player even directly said it was the latency so Nick saying the immersion played a role seems made up to fit the theme.

I wanna share something: When I was a teenager, I used to play a specific Tetris version called "Tetris Cascade" (2003) on my Motorola flip phone. It's basically Tetris with gravity. So if you would have hole below your soon-to-be-cleared line and a tetrimino placed above said line, it can fall into that hole after clearing and create another finished line. That way I could do 12 lines in one go. Very satisfying. Also I would do symmetric builds with a lot of those fall-in-holes up till the top of the window, and then activate that cascade. Oddly satisfying to watch the tetriminoes fall symmetrically until everything got cleared till the bottom. I loved that so much. More than classic Tetris. I still have the software copy on my PC but nothing to run it on. I miss it to this day.

After playing a single version of tetris for 30 years many people would have had nothing but petty criticism for every aspect of the new game that defied their expectations or put them outside of their comfort zone. Watching the world's greatest player pick up a completely foreign controller, rapidly adapt and proceed to eagerly flog those blocks out of existence is both a testament to his freakish talent and love for the game as well as the stunning execution of design realized by the games developers. You've done a beautiful thing by introducing the classic tetris champ to the next generation of the game he loves so much. Much respect to you for taking this great idea for a video, making it a reality and sharing it with all of us. 👌

Actually the origin of the word of course as many others is greek. Im greek and i could understand without explanation. It means 16 (δεκαεξι /sixteen). Deca-Δεκα-ten -> hexa-εξι-six -> tris is just a pun from tetris. Tetris also a greek word. Tetris/Τετρας/four of somthing or four sides or four pieces. Cause all the pieces of tetris are squares with 4 sides and combined from four square pieces,

Tetris Effect is SUCH an underrated game. I just spent about 6 hours straight with my Soundsystem cranked up, speakers on either side of my monitor, and 2000W Infinity subwoofer in the corner across the room just killin it. sooooo much fun and super addictive. I'll be trying multiplayer soon, which sounds like a total blast. I've been playing Tetris since Gameboy and they really outdid themselves on this one. the amount of care and attention to detail in this game leads me to believe that the devs ACTUALLY LIKE TETRIS. imagine that. Anyhoo, highly recommend this game. 9.5/10 easily and it is rather inexpensive at that. goes on sale on Steam pretty regularly, too. 😎😎😎
