Great reaction, well done on getting it unblocked. Tokyo Dome was 2016, Su was 18, Yui and Moa just turned 17 - they had 55,000 people there two nights running. 'Catch Me If You Can' is the best metal song about playing a game that's a sort of cross between tag, blind man's bluff and hide & seek I've ever heard. It is the perfect mix of the two extremes with the brutal instrumentals and the sweet vocals - and the game they are playing, they're playing with an Oni (a sort of Japanese ogre 👹 popular in regional festivals and used specifically to frighten children ... and the idea of that probably amuses me a lot more than it really should 🤭), very little gets any more metal than that. 🤘 The growling vocals (they are on a backing track) are the Oni asking things like "Are you ready?" and the best response has to be "Maada da yo" (No, not yet) while doing a running away from an Oni dance.🏃‍♀🏃‍♀🏃‍♀👹 The Kami Band getting their chance to shine up front with the intro - always great. Here they were Mikio Fujioka (RIP Jan 2018), Takayoshi Ohmura, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏃‍♀👹 That was Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. A classic Kami Band lineup. You mentioned the contrast between the cute and the heavy. Yes, this song is about playing a game that is kind of like hide-and-go-seek, with some tag and blind-man's bluff mixed in. But they are pursued by an "Oni"" which is a kind of Japanese Ogre. If not a real monster, than at least someone pretending to be one in order to terrify children into behaving. Fun times! Kawaii Metal! : ) They performed this song quite a bit in 2017, but not since. The last time I saw this one was in Chula Vista, California when they were on tour opening for Korn.

Babymetal live is an award winning combination of awesomeness rarely seen before. Especially with such young front persons. This was the last 2 concerts of their world tour that year. They had something like a little less than 1.5 million viewers ( I guess including festivals ) who saw them that tour. Babymetal played the 4 big rock/music festivals in Japan, almost all main stage. Played main stage earlier that year at Download UK. Later that year Babymetal opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers in the UK, the next year they opened for Metallica in South Korea and for Guns N Roses in Japan and RHCP in the US and Korn and Stone Sour (the other band from frontman Corey Taylor of Slipknot)... the year after opened for Judas Priest in Singapore. The year after they played mainstage at Summer Sonic festival in Japan, just before the closer Foo Fighters. This was the festival Babymetal got started in 2012 at the stage which wasn't even a real/regular stage, it was the comedians stage at the food court.... from the smaller than smallest stage to the main stage.

So this was a two concert series. They ended up splitting their discography in half over 2 days. It's the only time they performed their most difficult song called "Tales of the Destinies"! I remember reading online that the two concerts were so physically exhausting that the drummer had to be carried off stage at the end because his legs gave out. :O Glad to see you enjoying this though!

And while the song from the international release "From Dusk Till Dawn" wasn't performed, it was played over the speaker system the first night when everyone was leaving. That way they really did 'play' all songs. 🙂

Glad to see you got the video unblocked. Tokyo Dome was in fact the epitome of Babymetal. Two days full of fun, heavy music, plenty of kawaii moments and all songs (except one, FDTD) played. The stage setup was insane and incredible, the band was playing out of their minds and the girls gave everything they can and delivered an amazing show. On top of that 55.000 fans were able to enjoy the show each night. Onto the next one champ!

CMIYC is really fun and everyone always seems to having great time during this song BabyMetals stages go up down forward out into audience on tracks and back again oh yes the is an Elevator up to 4 platforms on top of the tower . It was great how excited you got during this reaction there was a lot of fans from around the world travelled to these shows probably one of the reasons she spoke English . More would of come but tickets where bought on a lottery system you had to hope you where picked to BUY a ticket the demand is that high 😁🤘🦊🤘

I might add one piece of information about English and would like to be corrected, or reaffirmed by a Japanese native. When I was in 5th grade in my particular school (America), we were given a choice of studying French, or Spanish. Other schools may give varying options over the decades. Regardless, I was informed (possibly incorrect), that Japanese are given one option; English, at least at the very young ages. I understand that most Japanese aren’t fluent, but many have at least an exposure; to my knowledge. Could one of you that have grown up in Japan enlighten me? Arigato.

Why does Su speak English? She started a long time ago, and its because she realizes she is playing to a world audience, even if in Japan. Yui and Moa will speak to a Japanese crowd in Japanese however. English elsewhere. Any concert you see Babymetal play is international. People fly in from all over the world to see their shows, even the ones in smaller venues as they tour the US will have a strong international contingent. There were a lot of foreigners at the Tokyo Dome shows As far as audience participation, the international nature of the audience comes into play. Different countries bring different things, like Mosh Pits became more common once Babymetal started touring the West, and you see them in Japan now, and the Western audiences pick up the call and response. So you get the insane participation everywhere, and it keeps evolving.

As mentioned previously people come from all over the world for a Babymetal arena show. It's why they have a number of songs in English and why there is an English version of The One. If you want to see how they still control crowds and how popular they still are take a look at either of the Legend Metal Galaxy shows in Jan 2020. Massive crowd, complete control, even more than this show. The performance of Headbanger at LMG is out of this world. #notacult

Tokyo Dome Red night was great. Here the band was able to play and interact with the crowd. They also add more to the songs live. Especially with Mikio being there. You can hear all those highlighted and added harmonics. You should do Road of Resistance from this show, where Mikio plays the chant on guitar. Also you can see Ohmura licking BOH's bass in back while Su is talking to the crowd ( 10:52 of your vid ). Poor decision to hide them now. On Black night, Mikio switched out with Leda.

@@TheChampOfMedium this song is a lot darker than you think. They are playing hide and seek. But Japanese hide and seek is hiding from a monster who is trying to eat you. If you want to see the dark side of this song watch 'A promised Neverland'. It's an awesome anime. A character won 'villain of the year' at an anime award. The show is based on the same children's games as this song. Also doesn't this song sound like Harajukucore aka Hanabie? I'd love to see Hanabie cover this.

Great reaction, thanks! The Tokyo Dome stage setup is a freaking spectacle itself. Add some of the best musicians in the world and the most entertaining group ever and you have a total experience. Definitely "CMIYC" is on their heavier side instrumentally but it also has one of their cutest choreos, although I'm kinda disappointed with this version because of the lack of the infamous "Moa slide" movement... totally kidding... or not... 🤣But if you like statistics and oddities I believe this is the only time it happened.

I absolutely love how Queen Su can sing so clearly. Some people like vibrato and I do in limited doses. However, the vocal technique was originally developed to cover inadequacies of the singer to make a group more marketable. Su-Metal doesn’t use, “gimmicks.” She is definitely one of the most talented vocalists of my time (50++ years).

For me the Tokyo Dome concerts are the pinnacle of OG BM...and, therefore, also of BM in general. There are some classic renditions of songs from the first 2 albums, and although the staging sometimes overwhelms the girls, both concerts are spectacular. The emotional highlight of the TD concerts has to be Tales of the Destinies and The One so check those out. This is a great version of CMIYC with Mikio going places very few guitarists could follow. His sound made BM really stand out and he's a great loss. We also get BM doing some great crowd call and response. The song is based on a Japanese playground game of tag where the tagger is called the "oni", a Japanese ogre, and the choreography has the girls running away and hiding. The Oni asks if they are ready and Moa and Yui reply " no not yet". Oni are sometimes used by parents to jokingly frighten their children into good behavior ie they are the equivalent of the Bogeyman. There's also a dark reference to a children's poem that describes a young girl wearing red shoes who gets taken away by foreigners that was written in the early 20th century and is taught to Japanese school children. So the song is basically about child abduction...pretty dark. The music has great contrasts with the super heavy intro and breakdown and the school yard chant and J-pop melody in between. CMIYC is one of the songs I cycle to most in my playlist.

This was the first song I listened from Babymetal and it blew me away right off... been searching for my jaw for a long time. "Catch Me If You Can" is still my fav Babymetal song... and that dance is just, awesome and cool and yeah, Kawaii. I'll always love this song. My fav performance of "Catch Me" at this moment is probably when they premiered the song in "Legend Z" (from the IDZ bluray), Zepp Tokyo, 2013... Su, Yui and Moa appear wearing fox masks and they are still performing with the Babybones. This whole pack of 3 shows is amazing, even if the Kami Band only does the "Legend Z" encore - it's a memorable piece of history right there. In my love for this song in particular, I found a awesome Franksteinization of it, melted with "Sugar Baby Love" that I think you should check it's freaking awesome in it's own weird way: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/itShiLGUv8ybnpc.html .
