_Sore!_ 🦊🤘🔥 Glad to see you're back with this suggestion, they were quite young in this one but wait to see Doki Doki Morning or Iine!!, you can enjoy this song with the live sound of the Kami Band at Budokan 2014 or Budokan 2021 and after with the new formation. You did it right starting with this official MV, there are certain songs such the mentioned above you will enjoy and appreciate some differences and details from early era. Fans were enjoying and having so much fun watching this live every night at the World Tour 2023/2024, you don't wanna miss the chance to see them live and performing this song like they did recently in all these concerts, we always love the shenanigans when performing live between the girls in the middle section after the breakdown. Last month they play this classic hit at San Francisco in the final part of the Babyklok Tour along with Dethklok, also DragonForce was an invited guest playing in one of the concerts, they're very good friends of BM and the guitarists did another collab in the album version with Road Of Resistance. After that they played at Sick New World Festival and also playing Kingslayer along with BMTH, but they didn't play this song because it was a short setlist, but I'm pretty sure they're gonna include this in the next setlist at FOX_FEST and you will enjoy it live. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 (Yui and MoaMetal) and 15 yo (SuMetal, the lead singer), so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri). "Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them. During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance. In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox. "Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself. When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts. The origin of the "fox sign" is really long to explained but here's a short summary: The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole. Unlike the Japanese mythological creature who was a messenger/servant/guardian of Inari Okami, inside BM lore it was elevated to kami status and he's a metal god. Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a successful hit, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- 👀 This is a song with the arrangements by YuppeMetal, he took inspiration from "Memphis May Fire - The Sinner" for the drum section, another song that i recommend you for your own time if you want. Next suggestion: - Gimme Chocolate live at Legend 1997 official MV or live at Budokan 2014 with the Kami Band. See you next time. 🦊🤘🔥

ありがとうございます!☺️ The 三味線(shamisen) has a similar sound, but I think this is a 琴(koto). As you are aware, foxes disguise themselves as people. However, the fox is both a deity incarnate and a specter. As you may have noticed about the choreography, it often follows the meaning of the lyrics. The location where the video was taken is 神明宮 ( Shinmeiguu Shrine) in 阿佐ヶ谷(Asagaya). If you are in the Kanto area, you can make a pilgrimage to the holy place! 🔥🤘🦊 From🇯🇵

You actually nailed it, Megitsune is the female fox that can change into a woman and it's a metaphor in the song for women having to change their appearance and mask their emotions, etc, some of the live videos have the lyrics, worth reading. The thing she says when she pulls the Tanto is 'maidens shouldn't be underestimated' , quote from a Japanese movie.

Excellent again and some very good observations with regard to the choreo meaning something and relating to the song, like Yui and Moa dabbing powder on their faces. 'Megitsune' is a big favourite, often coming top in fan polls and it is the song they have played live more times than any other. It is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, I have no idea on the difference) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks in the video🦊) which, as you were aware, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional subservient female role in Japanese society (notice right at the start when Yui and Moa unravel Su from her restrictive traditional clothing), saying that is changing I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not deceptive kitsune (foxes), they are maiden-like megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The melody used in the breakdown with the pig squeals in the middle of the song (they also use it as the intro when they play it live) is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled out the tanto (short blade) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back waving the traditional instruments about were dancers with the lady who did the fan dance's troupe.🦊🤘

Nice reaction :) I'm glad you watched this so you'll have more of an understanding of it when you see them do it live. In the break with the knife she says, 'shouldn't be underestimated' or 'don't underestimate us', something like that. I'm sure some others will have the exact quote. Another of their staples is called 'Headbanger!!!'. I would suggest the 'Legend of '97' live version of that one. '97 refers to the year Su was born and her 16th birthday was the day before. Enjoy!

While Gimme Choco is BM's most well-known hit, Megitsune remains probably their most representative song. It gets covered quite a fair bit, noticeably by their Japanese peers. Very startling song choice at the outset, given how BM first begun recording it piecemeal in 2011 (when the girls were 12-14). The lyrics are really quite complex, about how female foxes hide their true selves behind disguises, masks & duplicity in Japanese mythology. Somehow, the live performances' sheer energy & revelry have changed the song message into one of female empowerment. So I agree with your speculation about its original narrative. Singing partly in enka style (akin to Japanese blues music) & also playacting to lift an invisible mask when performing, Su was actually pleading about losing her human side, & lamenting about being dominated by the Fox God (&/or culturally by a patriarchal society). Meanwhile, Moa & Yui were prancing around throughout, chanting exhortations like 'wasshoi' 'so-re', 'soi-ya', 'konkonkonko konkonko-kon' (Japanese onomatopoeia for foxes barking) as if they have fully metamorphosized, & remaining innocently silent as they removed their masks (as if they didn't know better). Then there is Su's spoken line 'nametara ikan ze yo' なめたらいかんぜよ from the 1982 yakuza flick 'Onimasa', which always drew cheers from live audiences (the MV showed her unsheathing her microphone dagger). Search KZfaq with the Japanese phrase to watch the movie scene itself. In the film, Masako Natsume's long-suffering character had finally turned to the dark side after her boyfriend was murdered by her father's gangster rival, bullying her way into the funeral wake to seize his ashes & angrily rebuking his grieving family ("don't fuck with/underestimate me, I am Onimsa's daughter"). I think Megitsune was meant to include the angry tone of that retort, but it has since become ambiguous (eg. defiant vs malevolent) in BM's versions over the years.

Another great reaction and down the Fox Hole you go. Head first! 😁 "Megitsune" is one of their most loved songs and their most played live one: 339 times... and counting! It was released in June 2013 (that's almost 11 years ago). Su-metal was 15 years old while Yuimetal and Moametal were both 13 (about to turn 14) back then. The style sub-genre is electronicore, a mix between electronica and metalcore with a hardcore style breakdown. That breakdown hits hard and (apart of those pig squeals) the melody is from a well known Japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" (Cherry Blossoms). The word "Megitsune" = "me" + "kitsune" which means female + fox so, vixen. Hence the "kitsune" masks everywhere. In Japanese folklore, the "kitsune" is an entity able to transfigure into a human form (mainly into a young lady form) with the objective to deceive men and cause them pain. So they sing that they aren't "kitsunes" but "megitsunes", "pure-hearted maiden-like female foxes", as the lyrics say. According to Su, it's a female empowerment song. BABYMETAL fans are known collectively as "The ONE" and "kitsune" / "megitsune" individually. So, you can tell this song is important! It took 36 demos to Takehiro Mamiya best known as Yuyoyuppe (or Yuppemetal), the song's arranger, until Kobametal (their producer) was 100% happy with the final result. It may sound crazy but this is why "Megitsune" is one of their best songs (if not the best). In my opinion, this music video is a masterpiece. And about its locations: - The stage where they are performing is called Nohgakudo (Noh theater) at Asagaya Shinmeigu Shrine in Tokyo. This is a stage where music and dances are performed during festivals. - The shrine right before the breakdown with the orange-ish torii gates is the famous Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto. The girls were so happy that the director traveled to Kyoto just to film that sequence. I am very happy to have visited both locations during my recent trip to Japan (among other incredible places). Until next time! 🤘‍🦊

Great reaction! This is another timeless classic. Babymetal is dispelling the traditionally derogatory meaning of "Megitsune" (female fox) used to label women as conniving/deceitful. They say that women are always actresses, smiling at face but crying in their hearts, and they are "innocent, pure hearted female foxes." With the passing of time, what it means to be an ideal woman is changing, so Babymetal is calling out all the ladies to "shoot up their fireworks" and be their true selves. And yeah, that breakdown, just unnecessarily heavy, but amazing haha. 🤘🦊

Megitsune is a fan favourite with the official MV having 89m views and it's not hard to see why. It has all the raw energy and enthusiasm that was so much a part of their early career. If you only do 1 more reaction before Fox Fest, I'm not jealous honest, then it has to be Headbanger which is iconic. I'd go for the Legend Of 1997 Apocalypse 4K version, the non 4k has sound drops, as this brings home their stage presence and crowd interaction even at a very young age. Su was 16, 1997 references her 16th birthday, and Yui and Moa 14. Maybe do a double with the official MV as you did with Monochrome. Glad you're enjoying the BabyMetal ride.

If you see this as relating to coming-of-age themes with the added supernatural element of being summoned by the Fox God, that makes an interesting pairing or counterpart with their song _Headbanger,_ which is a coming-of-age story of a 15 year old girl going to her first metal (visual kei) concert. It is also a transformative experience in a young life, but set fully in the mundane (natural, everyday) world. Those two taken together really sum up the worldview of Babymetal's early years. That won't mean anything to you before you experience that song, whenever it may happen, but your interpretation of the _Megitsune_ music video as you watched gave me something to think about. 🙂🤟🦊

The Megitsune MV was my introduction to Babymetal being the first Babymetal MV to show up in my KZfaq feed that did not feature children in the thumbnail 😅. Megitsune was the first song released by the newly independent Babymetal having separated from their parent Idol group Sakura Gakuin in 2013. Su- was encouraged to sing the song in Japanese Enka style. This coming just after her adolescent voice change. And that voice, with its wonderful, sweet, narrow vibrato, and Su- unabashedly just belting out the final chorus full-on is what made me a fan. And, even though i had left hard rock/metal music mostly to the wayside back in the 70's to concentrate more on jazz, that heavy breakdown to the Japanese folk song Sakura Sakura also pulled me in. In their commentary video about this, I think it was Moa, said she and Yui really were playing. And there is an element of coming of age in this song and MV, but that is more covered in their song Headbanger. And the choreography is very deliberately related to the lyrics such as putting on makeup, and a fox putting a leaf on its head in order to transform. Another really great reaction. I am very much enjoying following along on your music journey. Others will fill in more detail per usual. I do think if you can find them, the translations done by Du-metal are excellent and the gold standard for the first two albums.

Thanks for this reaction, I'm a bit late on this one. Others have already mentioned many traditional Japanese elements/references in this MV and song. So I'll try and add some things not mentioned yet. Producer 'Kobametal', in the lore is the Fox God messenger, ironic, because the foxes are the messengers of Inari in Shinto, maybe it's a reference on how Babymetal also flips things on their head. 🙂 He has daughters of his own and they are around the same age, so I'm certain he is very much aware of their changes. so I wouldn't be surprised if it is related to growing up as well in some sense, but Headbanger song is a much better representation of that in their music. The lyrics of this song seem to hint more at how women in Japanese society have put in a lot of effort and how these young ladies appreciate it, but also want to part with some of the traditions. Probably why Metali has a similar theme, a song released pretty much 10 years after Megitsune (and the MV was done by the same producer). Breaking with traditions seems to me very likely a reference how Babymetal is different from other metal bands as well. For Headbanger MV also features the Fox God influence and adoption of these girls into metal, the Babymetal Death from Legend 1997 should come after the Headbanger MV and live performance from the same show to complete that small set, possible with Akatsuki Unfinished in between, as it was in the setlist, a common set of songs to suggest to reactors).

Another great one mate, when Su draws the knife from her mic she says "women should never be underestimated. Megitsune is female fox and when the girls are putting on makeup the lyrics are referring to ancient maidens coming to live in the present and all women are becoming the perfect women (hence the makeup) but I do believe its a bit of a 2 fingered salute to all the people at the time who said they were just a fad and not metal. I seem to spend so much time just wandering how Su could possibly be as good as she is, 15 when this was recorded and now if you listen to what she can do vocally and as a performer, the way she can get the message of the song across and the emotion she sings with are increasable, she can be classed as one of the top vocalist's of the last 20 years at least in any genre but personally I'd go further than that and say of all time and I include some of the great Jazz singers in that, she's up there with Ella Fitzgerald and that's saying something but she really is that good, that's why she had you crying on Monochrome.. Again really good reaction, a lot of BM choreography follows the lyrics, some of them are brilliant, Headbanger!!! live I love for that, About a young girl on her 15th birthday going to her first ever metal gig and I've seen a lovely interview from around this time in 2013 with Su talking so excitedly about them just having gone to there first metal gig, Metalica and how she had loved it, The fox refers to the Fox God who summand BM to travel the world and bring piece and unity through metal as far as I can tell, there is huge amounts of law around BM, songs etc, For instance when they played Brixton Academy in November 2014 they introduced Road of Resistance for the first time although the album didn't come out till 2016 and before it there is this 5 minute piece of law about how when they went back to Japan having played the UK for the first time in July and the Fox God had given them this song to bring back to England, it's crazy and I love it and the have thee best way ever of not answering any questions they can't or don't want to (Mostly used when they were kids to help them get out of uncomfortable situations in interviews) "Only the Fox God knows" there really is no comeback to it. Keep them coming and new single tomorrow,. 🤘🤘🤘🦊🦊🦊

Thank you so much for this, I got it completely wrong, but after reading the comments, and watching again I think it's obvious what you and others say. lol I guess I'm not so good at this.

@@JohnnyReacts1 Don't worry I've done exactly the same on many BM songs, ! started reading all the lyrics and while some are just good fun, some are really clever, IDZ (An anti bullying song) or Headbanger!!! for instance. Your doing a great job on these as you are putting in your input, For me and this is personal taste, I like reactors who have something to add and are not arrogant and you are. some just watch with no comments and some hate, I don't bother with either.

You should still react to Megitsune LIVE at PIA Arena 2023 from the Hymnodic channel. You will be glad that you did.

I'm glad you watched this! The "Megitsune" music video is a MUST SEE! It is a beautiful video and also has some elements that you won't hear or see in the live performance, such as the knife in the microphone reveal and the quote she says as she shows it. In the live performance, she does a kick and the crowd yells the quote as she says it. Then in the music video, you can hear "pig squeals" during the heavy AF breakdown but you won't or can't hear it during the live performances.🤘🦊🤘

You will hear the pig squeals at Legend MM when it comes out on Blu-ray if you listen closely enough. They are there, but it's hard to get them through the live music to be audible.

I suggest the 2023 PIA Arena LIVE performances over the 2014 or 2021 performances And definitely the LIVE performances of Doki Doki Morning and iine over the MV's

The MVs of Doki Doki Morning and Iine are still worth watching as they are the best examples for the Kawaii and WTF elements of early Babymetal.

Still pausing too much - too bad, really. How can you possibly give a video a decent reaction when you pause it every ten seconds? And not rewinding? The music video is four minutes ten seconds long but your entire reaction video is a bit over thirteen minutes long - roughly nine minutes of yammering. Sorry, but I have to give you a thumbs down. 😢
