Well, can you believe it?!? Can you really believe it?!?!?!? It felt soooo good to finally get back to working on this cabin build, and I am sure many of you are just as excited to see things moving forward. So, welcome back to the CABIN ON A CLIFF series! 🤩
I left my family for about 48 hours to work on this, and it is split into 2 videos - so here is the first portion of the work done. I've made some new friends out there too! 🐭🐭 (and for those who are really wondering and concerned, yes, I will be replacing a bunch of the lumber).
The plot of lumber I'm building with was milled by myself at my home property (1.5-2 hours from the cabin location) with my Woodland Mills HM126 bandsaw mill. I personally hauled all that wood down a 500' steep cliffside (took me 15 hours), but now having the SkyMule zipline, life is much easier transporting materials. I still do carry some things, hiking up and down, but I usually do one large load with the SkyMule.
Thanks for joining me and see you next week!

Another beauty of the BC coast, a little rain and then a little more rain some sun then stir in a little more rain. I miss that. 🙂

I subscribe to the motto (?) “if it looks straight/square it is straight/square”. I’m constantly impressed at the way you overcome obstacles like figuring out how to lift that first subframe by yourself. I removed an old 4 inch steel post that was set with nearly 300 pounds of concrete in a 3 foot deep hole by myself. Not because I’m all that strong but because I levered it up 2 inches at a time and scooped dirt under it until the hole was full. Then I used a come-along and more levers to get it up a ramp and onto a trailer to haul off. Leverage and mechanical advantage are your friends they are force multipliers if you will-you do a good job of using that…sometimes you gotta try twice but you eventually get it done. 👍🏻👍🏻

Each time you asked if we could pass you something or give you a hand, I was sat here thinking “if only”… So very envious of your lifestyle and your determination to succeed! Nothing but respect for you both. Awesome.

All I can say is that you’re a total bad ass. You’ve impressed me from the very start with your strength endurance and how you’ll able to overcome obstacles. Bottom line. You totally rock!!!!!

As someone that homesteads and does build projects primarily by himself...oh how I know the struggle. And the time...holy molie, the time. Building jigs and levers just to hold something. The sketchy foot and hand holds to not fall while fastening or positioning a piece.

Fantastic effort. I am 6'2 and 210 lbs and I would have struggled. No, seriously, I am so impressed with your ability to adapt and overcome. Great content.

Michelle you're my new hero! I'm planning on a diy cabin also (styrocrete & pallet wood) and seeing other women building structures reaffirms "if she can do it, I can do it too!"👍

It was my good fortune that I happened across one of your videos. You have me hooked. I admire you for tackling your various projects that most women would not even entertain. Your property is located in a beautiful place. Keep the videos coming and above all stay safe.
