In this video we have some fun! 🤩🤭😜 And I install the king/queen posts and ridge beam for my tiny cabin build.
(** Just for the record, and disclaimer - my skit and character Shawna (all skits and characters for that matter) are purely intended for humour, fun and silliness, and in no way am I intending to be anything other than that - I enjoy laughing in life and making others laugh along, either with me or at me **)
I also show you another glorious location where I'd like to build another cabin on our remote off-grid property - but that one will be especially challenging to get materials to. It's on the list!
I share an update on the cabin build and let you know my plans for the upcoming months with it - I plan on insulating this little cabin a little bit and anticipate using this cabin in the off season more than in the summer (maybe - I actually have no idea, lets just get it built first, right?).
The building inspector is back in town - with a twist! The plot thickens!! 🤭
Gosh golly, thanks for watching everyone! Let me know - did you enjoy the building inspector visit??
See you all in the next video!! 💕

When making the counterbored holes for lag bolts. Start with the spade drill, you will find it much easier as the spade drill relies on the point to keep it steady and centered.

I did roofing and remodeling for 22 years and most of the time I had to do a lot of the work by myself. I have no issues with you not feeling safe in the winter time doing projects like this. You never know what may happen and when you are by yourself you still need to rely on yourself to be able to get help should something go wrong. Safety is always the number one thing to be aware of on any job site regardless of being alone or having 100 others on the job site.

When setting beam on uprights, create saddle with two pieces of scrap screwed on sides of upright. Use existing frame to help support platform to stand on. Safety harness and safety cable to hook to when working above 5 ft off ground. "500,000 falls from ladders annually; 97 percent occur at home or on farms"

think that kind of blanket application of rule & statistics is heavily influenced by and more applicable to employer liability, where it's probably a good thing. in an individual thing, without employer pressure if you felt unsafe or too wobbly you'd think on it a bit and make it safe. unless you wanted to be in one of them funny people falling over videos.

fugg yes, don't play with safety up there, could be your last project if it doesn't work out right, specially when things get slick and icy, wont hurt to set up rigging in those tall trees and run life lines down so if you fall you don't hit the dirt or the deck and roll down that hill you are suspended then you can ease down and get right back to work, smarter not harder!

I know that you probably enjoy going up and down the ladder and moving it around. Probably does wonders for your quads and glutes. I would build a temporary scaffold or put some planks across the top to walk on. You can take it apart later and use the lumber. Will be helpful when doing the rafters as well. Nice work so far. More please, lol.

Thank you for that Michelle, your skit with the transformation to Shawna got me laughing out loud...kudos to the plastic surgeon, those look quite lovely, lol! You are so very creative in so many ways, always entertaining to see what you will come up with next! I hope you are around doing videos for a long while, since I think a lot of us feel like your friends, you just haven't met yet, but know changes come in life and doing videos may not be a good fit down the road. I hope your channel keeps growing, and however it works with KZfaq to make some money, it stays enjoyable to do and is profitable as well. :o)

Near the end of June, I fell from a ladder at 24' onto a stonewall and landed on my back. I rolled over immediately and the ladder came down and hit me on the back of the head smashing my face into the rocks. I ended up with a broken cheek bone, broken sinus bone, a broken eye socket, a broken ankle and a destroyed vertebrae. I still have vertigo and my ankle is still broken (thanks to health professionals not hearing me). I never thought that could happen to me. I've seen people slip on the ice and injure themselves for months to follow. Be careful, Michy! I love your videos but, consider staging and/or tying yourself or the ladder off when you go up. Keep making the awesome videos. Also, Shawnna... Oooh la la :)

It didn’t show on video but just a tip screw a 2 x 4 to the floor at the base of the ladder to prevent kick out would hate for the ladder to kick out on you when you are working at the top like that… Keep up the good work

When you decide to build that other cabin I would definitely use a raft of some sorts to get your materials to the site. That would make it so much easier for you, in the long run. Here's a tip, I would screw a stripe of plywood on both sides of the vertical king post connecting that ridge beam. That would prevent the beam from shifting off the edges than once you have more structure installed you can than later actually nail the ridge beam to the king post. And than remove the plywood later on..just a thought. Good Luck btw your doing a great job just please be careful don't fall.

I am reading this but seriously have to look up all those definitions to know what you’re talking about! 🤪. I felt smart knowing it was a ridge beam, but don’t know the other terms. I’ll look them up. 😬

Greetings from Greece, been waiting on an update for the cabin. Great job so far, I like the fact that you're milling the timber you're using. Just a suggestion, because I get that you're scared of heights, I've worked in construction, you could use a scaffold to keep on with the roofing. Scaffolds are lightweight so it would be 1-2 trips to the cabin. Also a harness could help, for your peace of mind. Keep it up!
