I watch BACK TO THE FUTURE (1985) for the FIRST TIME! 🌟
------------------------------------
Movie Summary:
In this 1980s sci-fi classic, small-town California teen Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) is thrown back into the '50s when an experiment by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) goes awry. Traveling through time in a modified DeLorean car, Marty encounters young versions of his parents (Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson), and must make sure that they fall in love or he'll cease to exist. Even more dauntingly, Marty has to return to his own time and save the life of Doc Brown.

The cool thing about this movie is this: The Doc's first time meeting Marty is in 1955. Marty already knows Doc. Marty's first time meeting Doc is sometime around 1985. Doc already knows Marty.

The phrase Great Scott! can be traced to the 1800s, it is a reference to American General Winfield Scott. According to folklore, the men in Scott's command adopted the exclamation “Great Scott!” as a way to reinforce his leadership. It went on to become popular in the latter half of the 1800s and into the 20th century, although had largely been rendered a dusty relic when Doc Brown used it in 1985. Love this trilogy and I've watched ot 100's of times. Michael J. Fox did learn the guitar for this part but the singing was dubbed in.

I heard they were already filming when Michael J. Fox was added. He was working Family Ties all day and Back To The Future all night and only had an hour to sleep. How did he find time to learn the guitar?
@toodlescae
@toodlescae 11 ай бұрын
@@ckobo84 that is true. Eric Soltz (Mask) was originally hired to play Marty but there were a lot of..let's say personality conflicts on set..plus the director and screenwriter didn't think he brought the screwball energy needed for the part even though he was a fine dramatic actor and fired Stoltz after 6 weeks. They had wanted Michael J. Fox for the part from the beginning but he was busy filming Family Ties. An agreement was finally reached and Fox agreed to do the part. You're right though. His schedule was grueling doing both things at the same time. I couldn't believe he found the time to learn how to play 2 songs on the guitar with his schedule either but he did.

I had a really bad teacher in the 60's in a small town school. The teacher would ignore the normal to fast students and fail them where she would coddle the slow ones. She came to my house one evening to tell my parents what a horrible student I was. I was in so much trouble until my friend who was a straight A student was getting D's was called out by her parents. She had to go through the school board and almost got fired. My parents were very sorry about the way they treated me over this.

thats awful. I had some bad teachers who did the opposite. The students who made A's got all the attention the ones who did poorly were left behind this was in the 70's and 80's for me. I was partially deaf so had a hard time keeping up. The teachers never bothered to help me at all. Anytime I did get good grades I had to work twice as hard as the other kids just to make sure I heard her right or didn't miss an assignment. Teachers love the rich kids and the straight A kids.

1. Cranky principal Strickland/James Tolkan also played the ship's squadron leader in "Top Gun". 2. The teacher that tells Marty, "I'm afraid you're just too darn loud" is Huey Lewis himself. (Heart of rock and roll) 3. Eric Stoltz was first cast as Marty, but he didn't play well with others and was fired. Some of his long shots are still in the movie. 4. The flammable material set on fire with the model exercise had to have been put there on purpose. 5. It's always fun to see how people react to the Marty and his mom car scene. 🤣 6. George McFly/Crispin Glover didn't like that the story ended with the family being prosperous. 7. IMVHO part II is the best of the trifecta. 8. If you want a first time/share of an OUTSTANDING movie where Christopher Lloyd plays the heavy you must do "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".

I love that you laughed when he said, "damn damn" 😂. My cousin and I loved this movie when we were kids and the damn damn part always made us laugh hysterically (probably we weren't allowed to say damn 😂😂). Also, my kids would probably rather stick needles in their eyes than to listen to the story of how me and their dad met one more time 😂😂😂. We worked next door to each other (him at Subway and me at Burger King) and anytime we see anyone eating from either place, we mention that that's where we met. The kids just roll their eyes because they've heard it a million times lol.

Definitely one of my faves! Growing up in the 80s was def the best! Yes, that is Michael J. Fox singing and playing the guitar. When he developed Parkinson’s Disease his guitar hobby became a way to help with coordination. It eventually got so bad, he had to stop playing for awhile. I think it only a few years ago at one of his Parkinson’s fundraisers he was able yo perform again. I’m sure there’s a video for it. Glad you love it!

If you haven't watched BTTF part II or III yet there's another movie you should see first, one that made Clint Eastwood a megastar, a good western called _A Fistful of Dollars_ (1964). Most of us back in the 80s watching the BTTF trilogy would know this movie well, and more importantly so would Marty McFly. Can't tell you any more without spoiling parts II & III. And _Fistful_ is part one of it's own awesome trilogy. When doing BTTF Part II be sure to stop the movie at the end when you see the words "To Be Concluded---->" on the screen! Because a LOT of spoiler scenes for Part III will appear next. ✌😎

"Too darn loud" was an inside joke by the director. Remember the music playing as Marty was hitching rides on the backs of cars on his way to school? That music was done by Huey Lewis, who played it too darn loud on tour all over the country. He was the teacher with the megaphone. Oh...and the Pinheads were playing his music for the audition. :)

I got a hold of some behind the scenes to The Back to the Future movies and how they were filmed and I was so fascinated with that I probably spent about 2 or 3 weeks watching all three movies every day for most of the days of those weeks and I've watched those movies numerous times ever since whether it's with other people who love the movies or people who would never seen them like my kids and I can watch them today right now and totally enjoy them.

I was born in 1950 and every time I watch this movie, I am amazed at all the nuances they got right about 1955 and how out of place someone from '85 would seem. "Oh, NOBODY has two televisions" brings back how in '55 that would be inconceivable that would be to most people. Reagan, a grade B movie actor (check the movie marquee in the '55 town square), becoming president, would have been laughable at the time. And Jerry Lewis as VP and Jack Benny as Sec. of the Treasury are both laugh-out-loud ideas.

Love this movie! I most definitely had a principal like Strickland. My first day of high school, which was 7th grade (our town was super tiny), and the principal said, "well looks like you fell out of the ugly tree, because you don't look like your sisters!" I was 10 years old. I skipped 2 grades. I don't look like either of my sisters, which I already knew at 3 years old. One of was the prom queen. The other one was the homecoming queen who married the quarterback. Neither of them have a neck anymore. I look great now, I just took me awhile!

I probably saw it 10 times just in the theater. I've certainly lost count of the times there, on TV, VHS, DVD, and streaming. Did you notice Twin Pines Mall at the beginning changed to Lone Pine Mall at the end, because Marty ran over one of the pine trees? You should see Marty's dad (Crispin Glover) in Teachers from 1984, also starring Eddie Murphy's partner from 48 Hrs. (Nick Nolte), the original Karate Kid (Ralph Macchio), and the mom from the original Poltergeist (JoBeth Williams).

What is fascinating about this movie is many many years later it was reported that 80 percent of the movie was filmed starring another actor as Marty. Eric Stoltz was the original Marty McFly but was fired after both the director and Spielberg just didn't like the film. They managed to make a deal the have Michael J. Fox film his sitcom during the day and he can film the movie after hours and weekends.

As for some of the things you questioned, that it what is was like in 1985. Yes a principal or teacher could talk to you like that. You also could get paddle swats if you misbehaved. As for the 1950's, it was unheard of for a girl to call a boy. We had service stations not gas stations. People had proper manners. You are too young to know and understand what life was like back then. It was a completely different world. People never locked their doors. All neighbors knew each other. You strongly disciplined children and your neighbors children. You never talked back to anyone. You did what you were told without question. If you wanted money for something, you worked for it even before you were 10 years old.

Everybody does that when they see Steven Spielbergs name on this. Steven just produced this movie when noone else would. The one you got to give it up for is Robert Zemeckis, he was the co-creator and director of this movie. He was connected with Steven Spielberg on ET The Extra Terrestial and they were friends. I think he was one of the camera men. I'm not sure but I know he was connected. The idea of Back To The Future was his and Bob Gales idea. Noone else would produce this movie even Disney Studios rejected it. But once Steven decided to be their producer, things started changing. But Steven had nothing to do with the creative part of this movie.

Oooh, you're in for an unforgettable movie series here! I love it - for years every time there was a rerun on tv, I'd watch it. I'm looking forward to see it here with you! Christopher Lloyd and Matthew J Fox weren't really fond of each other during making this movie. After Fox started suffering from Parkinson's (I think he's one of if not the youngest person affected by it), Lloyd warmed up to him a lot. Jennifer will be played by another actress in the sequels. The actor who played Marty's father didn't return for the sequel, and the way the studio brought back his character (terrible prosthetics, leftover footage etc.) made him sue the studio, which later helped other actors protect their likeness.

here in michigan, in the 70s-80s there used to be a grocery chain called great scott. althogh i serously doubt that had anything to do with the phrase. but i always think of it

i think this is my 11th time. haha. Note: The suited guy with glasses and megaphone, who said, " I'm sorry, You're just too darn loud." was Huey Lewis himself who wrote aND PERFORMED , The Power Of Love.

You definitely should watch the whole trilogy, but 2 things to know before watching #2: - They had to recast the part of Jennifer, because Claudia Wells was taking care of her doing mother - At the end when it says To Be Concluded you need to stop the video because it is followed by scenes from #3 which will be a spoiler and it is better to just watch #3

Crispin Glover didn't return for the sequels either. He was replaced by Jeffrey Weissman and they used some Glover footage from the first film.

@@LuisDiaz-zr2vs Actually they used some prosthetic molds of Glover's face to make it look like Glover. He sued and one in a case that still has implications today.

@@DaleKingProfile Yes, it can be seen in some promo stuff, but it doesn't appear in the finished film (he can be barely seen at the end of part 3, he stays behind in the house). They also hung Jeffrey Weissman upside down in Part 2 so nobody could tell it wans't Crispin. When they go back to 1955 in Part 2 they used footage from the first film (George dancing by himself, in particular) and a picture of Crispin in 47 year-old George make-up for the newspaper. Honestly, I don't understand why they'd never just recast the role, like they did with Jennifer.

There's actually a condition that is simply called - Uncombable hair syndrome (UHS), which is a rare DISORDER of the hair shaft of the scalp. It is usually characterized by silvery-blond or straw-colored hair that is disorderly; stands out from the scalp; and cannot be combed flat. Albert Einstein suspected of, or was said to have had this condition. Doc, in Back To The Future, is an eccentric inventor who models himself after Einstein, even named his dog Einstein, & appears to share the UHS Disorder.

I’ve seen the 2nd one probably twice as much as this one. Just love the future in comparison to the past. Especially as a black man, knowing damn well I would nvr wanna go back to the 50s. I will say 1.21 gigawatts is my favorite like in the whole movie. The way past doc brown reacts to that revelation never gets old 🤣🤣
