TIG welding on the open root with back feeding tig root pass technique.
Back-feeding a TIG root is a valuable technique that comes in handy when in tight spots or when you have a bad fit-up with large gaps or just a way to go with your root on a regular basis.
The video gives the viewer good insights into how to place a good and solid root pass. With the appropriate training and practice on the part of the operator, learning to back-feed root can become an invaluable skill!
If the puddle gets too large, gravity will simply pull it away ...(especially at the top quarters). This is why molten metal is especially challenging for beginners.

Been welding ASME stainless vessels in Upstate New York for two years now. This is my dream job, I went to two welding schools (paid for by the GI Bill) after working in steel construction/iron work for two years. I pride myself on my personal high standards of work quality, and after about a year my speed was on par with most others, but my quality was far better than the vast majority of my peers. The one aspect I struggled with was my pipe root passes. Your videos have helped me in that department immensely! Thank you, and keep up the good work.

@adj1980usmc
@adj1980usmc 5 ай бұрын
@@user-hb4uu8rr9i the first was Lincoln Tech. Very basic school, but I got plenty of hood time out it. An instructor from my last class said we’ve all learned enough to get us a welders helper/fitter position, and that the school he went to was more fabrication oriented, within 24 hours I was touring the AMC at Community College of Denver. Possibly the best kept secret in welding education. Phenomenal facility, generously funded, and very driven and passionate teaching staff. A lot of people ask me the same question, most don’t get it, but I wouldn’t change a thing!

How do we combat this? More heat?
@jeepwk6.5L
@jeepwk6.5L Жыл бұрын
@@calebc6028 I got it down now, I think the thing that helped was just being more accurate with my rod. Once I could keep it in the puddle I was good. It would stick once I came out of the puddle a little on the side. You could always try more heat. But if you're keyholing and not able to satisfy the puddle I'd say you're too hot then. My thing was accuracy tho I think.
