Not only are lie detector tests faulty, but you can definitely pass one if the person taking it BELIEVES it to be true. So the man could fully and truly believe he was from the future and pass it. Another example would be if a red-green colorblind person said the color purple was blue, they would pass it bc to them, they see blue and fully believe it to be blue.

Scientific professionals have even said that lie detectors are pretty fallible, and that they are nowhere near exact enough to even use admissibly as evidence in court. Just most judges aren't aware of that and allow it.

Even if they were impossible to trick, it doesn’t test whether you’re telling the truth, it tests whether you THINK you’re telling the truth or not. So a crazy guy who truly thinks he’s a time traveler could pass even an infallible lie detector test 😂

2:30 I think it's funny they are mis-interpreting the circuit connector pads of the buttons on the phone to be cuneiform. Those are literally just exposed cooper sections that would touch a corresponding copper piece inside of the now missing buttons. That's how it would detect if you are pressing the button. The two pieces of copper would touch and complete a particular circuit, causes a specific function to happen. Cuneiform doesn't even have symbols that look like some of those connection pieces.

I would love to introduce the concept of Ocham's razor, a phrase which is commonly translated as "Entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity" which basically means that often most simple solution is also the most likely. Example: what's more likely? That the entire world is conspiring against you and tampering with your test results to trick you into believing that the world is round when it's actually flat for no conceivable reason other than that they like lying to you OR the world is actually round.

some of the "time travelers" aren't photoshopped, they are legit human beings who where in those photos. but the photos are also really old and low resolution and they are often holding archaic technology that modern day people wont recognise so they are more likely to believe its a mobile phone at 6:07 than know what a dictaphone looks like.

Tl;dr on it: There's live theater footage from the 20s or something on a certain Charlie Chaplin DVD and in the crowd in that footage there's a woman holding a large object to her ear and speaking, and people thought it was a phone, but it was just a hearing aid. That's how I know the hearing aid thing in the first place.

Everyone always brings up how lie detectors are easy to fake the results of, but I feel like you don’t even have to go that far. If a person believes the lie they are telling, they wouldn’t show signs of lying on a lie detector. A person who is so convinced of their delusions that they would willingly take a lie detector test would not read as having lied, lie detectors aren’t magic.

My favorite thing about the phone is that the buttons are "written in cuneiform". Either someone from the ancient times somehow time traveled forward to recreate a nokia in stone and for some reason wrote the buttons in their own language and not what they actually saw, or someone from the present day...
