Since the Klon vs Bad Monkey video has been so popular, I thought it might be fun to show the Bad Monkey's speaker sim function as well. Here it is straight into the computer with a bit of reverb added for room.
I think the Strat sounds better with it; the Floyd's humbuckers are just too hot. What do you think? Either way, these pedals can be had for less than US$50 with a bit of searching so they're pretty good value for money. :)

This pedal saved my ass 2 weeks ago, I went to play with a bigband orchestra and the place din't have enough mics to mic my amp up that I took with me, so this thing came in handy, I had it at the end of my pedal board, the normal line out went into my amp so that I could hear myself on stage, the speaker sim out went direct to the mixing deck and so the crowd could hear my guitar as well :) It sounded awsome, too with all my pedals running behind it, even my mutron envelope filter sounded good

Just an FYI, the MIXER OUT ( amp emulator) still works, say into PA, or acoustic amp, even when OD is OFF. So using the Bad Monkey, you will get a clean or OD tone when used into non-traditional electric guitar amps. This is a great pedal! DigiTech Screamin' Blues will do the same.

I bought mine simply because it was the cheapest in the shop, around 2006. Ive really grown to love it and take joy in its plucky underdog status. I currently carry it as a back up to my Helix and am delighted to hear how usable the sound is with the cab emulation

Ok, I made the rehearsal last night, going direct to PA. We have a decent yamaha PA with good active speakers and at first it did not sound good, we play funk/smooth jazz and I realised during that one thing you have to watch is how you pan yourself in the mix especially if you are playing with other musos going direct (other guitar player/keys/vox etc). I set the EQ flat but with a bit of mids added from the mixer and it sounded very good, even took my TS8, fuzzface and wah well.

That's actually a surprisingly good speaker simulator for that price. Nice demo.

impressed by the tone of your strat. it's cool to hear this demo though, i honestly kind of scoffed at the monkey's mixer option or the thought of generaly using it as an "amp" but, that would make my portable gear even more so when i just want to practice while i'm out. Thanks for the solid demo.

Not a stupid question since the terms are so frequently interchanged. For some reason a wall brick is called a DC adapter in some places and an AC adapter in others, and both produce 9VDC like a battery. But that's not the worst of it. Some bricks actually produce low voltage AC and others DC like a battery. If the device specifies AC, it needs alternating current to run but in most effect boxes that run off a battery a 9VDC battery elliminator is needed. It produces the same power as a battery

@SuperB00gs - "Tube Screamer" is a brand of pedal made by Ibanez(actually it was made by Maxon FOR Ibanez), and it's become one of the ICONS of overdrive pedals, being copied by nearly everyone. If you see an OD pedal and it's painted some shade of green, it's a Tube Screamer copy... and alot that aren't green too! The sound has become so well-known in guitar circles that 'tube screamer' has become an adjective, not just a proper noun.

nice demo, it shows how cold this pedal really is, i dont want to say icepick sound but near....i say that because i have one ! and IT DOESNT WORKS WITH A WARM TO CRISP DRIVED VALVE AMP LIKE A VOX to make an example. But a nice pedal if you like a tubescreamer like sound.

That all depends on what you want. If you actually intend to use this speaker thing than the Bad Monkey is the only choice. I prefer the SD-1 to the Bad Monkey. Bad Monkey's are great, don't get me wrong, but the louder the mix gets or at a gig I've found that low end vanishes. While the SD-1 is bright it still can have the chugging low end that the Bad Monkey lacks when stuff gets turned up. I also trust Boss build quality more than Digitech. This is all my opinion though, you aught to try both

@tony93666 yeah and mostly used as a "boost" by us metalheads. I don't use mine if i don't have to honestly and i never use the gain knob. I have though and for the price you can get some solid tones out of it if you play around with it.

If you need a good speaker sim for a few bucks then this is the one. I have one the speaker sim is on even if you bypass the pedal :-) That way you could put other good pedals before it and plug it into your computer or pa and get good sound. Alot better than the speaker sim in the Digitech GNX series!

+Davide Ruggerini Yes. There's two outputs. "Amp" is just disortion if the pedal is on, and the "Mixer" out applies the cab simulation even if the pedal is off. Useful for home demo, or "oops my amp is smoking" on stage situation.
