Margarine ?? certainly not !! ,,, the biscuit is basically a butter shortbread biscuit and there is absolutely no comparison between the biscuits made with margarine and the other made with pure butter. Use three cups of plain flour not self raising, and one cup of Bird's Custard Powder ( melt in your mouth ) two cups of softened butter, I cup granulated white sugar, a half a teaspoon of fine salt.

8oz Stork, softened 3oz Icing sugar, sifted 11-12oz Plain flour 3tbsps Seedless mixed fruit jam, I just use a value one 8oz Icing sugar, sifted A few Jelly sweets

180g margarine was actually used for the biscuits in this video, not the 135g as shown

so i just made empire biscuits using the recipe in the video...my mix didnt come together quite like in the video....had to bring it together with my hands and it didnt roll out very well...can u confirm the ingredient amounts?

right up to the mid 1990s margerine was commonly used for baking than butter ... the correct name for a Empire biscuit is "German Biscuit"
