Great vid Darren! I've tinkered with mine over the past 8 yrs and actually spoke to the guy from Bal many yrs ago since Keystone didn't have mine adjusted properly. The keepers jam nuts weren't tight and they collided once but I caught it in time and stopped when I heard a funny sound. 2013 BHPR31 which I think is the EXACT SAME CAMPER in your vid!

I was pulling a new cable through the wall today and my wife suggested I use fishing line to cinch the "chinese finger cuff" material to the old cable. Use a slip knot to get it started then wrap liberally. It'll stay flexible and will not add bulk to the wire like tape does. Provided material held the new cable with no problem, but the old it would not hold. Also used 8lb line to hold back all the frayed wire ends after cutting. Had no problem pulling it through.

I have watched a few of your videos, so far very informative, and helpful. These systems are designed to "amp out" as you say. you can and should hold the switch until it stops completely. At that point the cables should have 1 inch of slack. The gearboxes do fail but normally it is because of overtightening, not over running the room, although we did have a recall on many older gearboxes. The jam nuts were most likely the original problem, but the foam nuts are also missing on the 3/8 cable adjusters. They keep the cables from loosening. Great job!

Great info as usual. One thought though, I understand using the tape to mark where the ferrule goes, but I think using heat shrink tubing for wrapping the ragged ends of the cable would last longer than the tape. It could slide over the tape as well. Or maybe that's one step to many. Just a thought.

Very informative. I just bought a new trailer with 4 slides, all cable type. I found 3 cables, two on one side of one slide, one on another that were frayed about 18" back from the outside bracket. What the heck would be the cause of that? Waiting on the cables to come in so they can replace them, but 3 cables on two slides frayed at the same place seems very odd

I purchased a used fifth wheel that uses three of these slides but the kitchen one hangs up a bit on the bottom floor and the in chain hangs down. Another fantastic video Darren. Highly educational. I'm wondering how can I push my slide in manually. My issues are many with this slide. Biggest 1 being the motor ripped away from a water damaged wall. I don't have time to rebuild the wall right now and reattach the motor because I was supposed to leave this park last Wednesday. I'm already 4 days over my stay here. I'm already paying for my new spot. I have a 5 and a 1/2 hour drive. The part manager suggested that might have to just go and haul it like that. I think that is a dangerous damaging dumb suggestion. If it's not illegal already go around the road with your slides out sure should be. I'm concerned with my cables getting bound up and kicking and frying. If I just force it. just shove it in.

Great video,,,but I was surprised at the end at how much slack was in the chain. My chain has slack like that and I thought I needed to adjust that slack out. I guess I need to actually inspect some other things. How much slack I have in the cable on the outside when it's out, and make sure my top and bottom out's are both out all the way. For reference, I have a North trail 22FBS. Trying to be proactive in my maintenance.

@J.Cameron.Stuart.Adams.
@J.Cameron.Stuart.Adams. 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. The added weight of slide topper awning, shade awning, and even new furniture can be enough to require an adjustment. More so when the unit is older as the cables are more likely to stretch if they've not been tightened in years. Other components - pulleys, brackets, and even the motor, can shift with added weight (or reduced weight in some instances) if the mounting screws and bolts are loose from years of vibrations. Hope this helps. Cheers!

This is my RV Darren's working on here. He talks about the foam ant-vibration blocks that need to be installed and how important they are. Well, HE NEGLECTED TO INSTALL THEM. The 8th time we tried to bring the slide in it failed. It was all twisted again because the nuts had loosened. When I told him what had happened, he said it had been 2 years and there was no warranty. He wouldn't do anything for us. REALLY?? Two trips out with the trailer and that happened, because of his negligence. He started pointing his finger at me, my wife, and even my wife's Kansas cousin who helped us get the slide in when it stopped working there. He even blamed Keystone and BAL but took NO RESONSIBILITY himself. Unbelievable to me. Then after repairs we took it out a couple more times. Now the slide has failed to come in again. We've discovered that the crimped piece he put on the end of the new cable has one side pulled out. I couldn't be more disappointed in someone and how he handled this.

Awesome video I have a similar system that the bottom seal seal has come off leaving a gap to the inside for bugs and you name it to get in there is very little room to replace or reapply the seal what would you suggest as to a method for fixing is lifting the slide out up a method or is there a better option
@MyRVWorks
@MyRVWorks 4 жыл бұрын
Of course, the correct answer is a properly oriented, calibrated slideroom should seal properly. But, we all know in the real world that never happens LOL. When I replace the seals on the bottom I have jacked up the slide room a little bit. They do give you a little bit of play but not much depending on the system used in the mode of operation.

A very, very excellent tutorial! Thanks for taking us along. I do have this cable system in my 22 Arctic Wolf. The other day I put "seal conditioner" on my seals, and now both slideouts chatter and "jerk" when moving in and out, almost like something is binding. I wiped them off as well as I could, and waxed the sides of each slideout so they are smooth and slick. It's a little better, but still not right. Any ideas? Is there some type of lubricant for the slide rubber?

There was even more that was done to this slide to make it operate correctly. I was concerned that the video is going long, and I was also losing a lot of time in the day just getting the right camera angles, so I put down the camera and got my sleeves rolled up and went to work. Sometimes when I am in the field, I don't have control of the environment where I can reshoot and take as long as I would like to get the angles.
