@@AipingTaiChi It already has helped me. I followed your recommendations this evening and was able to balance by keeping my tail tucked, my navel in line with my legs, my head straight, and I did not raise my leg as high as my teacher. He is over six feet tall and I try to mimic him. You showed me I do not have to keep up with the men in the class and that a lower leg is fine. I subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing your other videos. I am learning Eagle Quest tai chi, a more modern mixture here in Southeastern Connecticut. Thank you again for teaching me and like I said, you are an excellent Master.

What style of Tai Chi? I started with Wu style and later studies Sun style. The way I learned Tai Chi means non combat application, I call it West L.A. Tai Chi. Tai Chi Chuan has combat application which is the full art because it is a martial art.

Enjoyed your lesson. I have practice qigong daily for over 4 years. I first was introduced to it on on a river cruise in Europe - 15 days in length. 2 medical doctors taught these introductory lessons. I continued my learning with a 7day Qigong Self Healing Retreat. This was sponsored by the University of Maryland school of medicine - Center for integrative medicine. Neither of these taught balancing on one leg. Since I think this type of balancing is extremely important I will incorporate these two moves into my daily routine. Thank you very much for your excellent explanations. ☯️😀🥰’

Thank you. This is so helpful. Keeping our pelvis tucked throughout tai chi is a challenge. However, once you grasp that mindset and make it a muscle memory, it all comes together. Thank you for your wonderful videos that I can watch at home, after I leave the dojo.

Good instruction, nice relaxing voice too! Having got used to this shifting of weight and maintaining balance, how do you get a higher leg lift? I get about horizontal but note many players lift very high!

Hi Davy. I am so sorry for the late reply. I hadn't been checking the KZfaq notifications. Thank you for your comment. In order to kick higher, the key is improving both your leg flexibility as well as leg strength. This is a great topic for a follow up video. Thank you so much for the topic idea! I will make a dedicated video on how to improve kicks and exercises you can do as the next video.

I am working with your video on balance. I find it very hard to balance on my left leg in rooster. I also find my upper thigh muscle (inside) is very tight when I try to kick my leg - do you have a suggestion for loosening that muscle? Thank you.
@AipingTaiChi
@AipingTaiChi 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Joanne. Thank you for trying our lesson! My suggestion is to see how you are rooting into the left leg. Try angling you left foot a little to the left, so it's not pointing straight forward. Then before you lift up your right knee, make sure the weight is distributed all across the foot, especially down on your big toe, don't let the weight sink into your heel. Then, engage your glutes and make sure your groin is open. Then let your pelvis tilt under so your lower back is flat. Only after all these things are in place, pick up your right heel but keep your toes on the floor. Refocus on your positioning on your left foot and leg and relax your thighs. Picture your connection to the ground is much deeper than where your foot touches the floor. Only when you can relax here, should you then imagine a string lifting your right knee up. Let me know if that helps!

Dear Ms, Sifu Shirley and or to whom this may concern as, it is customary for a Buddhist to do, which is, as I, understand, to return, a, Generous Favour and or, a Good, Intention, with, something that is, Equivalent and so, if, I may and if, as yet, you have not, yet managed to read, the, Book, titled, Riding Logic, then when possible and if, practical, locate a copy, of, that, important Book, which is in, the opinion, of this, humble student of Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Gong A Must Read, for, all, of those who believe, that it is Wise to sometimes read some Books, with titles, that appear to be, unrelated, to the subject of interest, directly and which do relate, Indirectly and so too Paradoxically also, Directly, as does, the great book, that was written, early, last century and by one of the world's very best Equestrian exponents and the title is, Riding Logic, which, is one, of the best books that, I have ever encountered on the subject of, Learning to Ride A Horse and which I have found is also a great book on how to best Learn, how, to control the Horse, which, according to my basic, knowledge, of, Taoism, may also be, the Human Body, or even, A Dragon, which, we Humans, are, Wise, to, Learn, how best to Manage, as too how best, To Practice, Right Practice, in relation, to being and to becoming, better able to Sustain and Maintain that control and because, Horses, have Mind's of their very own, much as, Children, do and so, better to be Gentle, in, control as is, the Way of Tai Chi, or so, this, humble student, Believes! I am very sorry that I have to make a comment on your alignment. 12:08 your alignment - according to the Tai Chi principles, your right shoulder should align with the right kua/hip and the right foot. Your Baihui (top of the head) does not align with your middle and lower dantian like an axis. When you lift up your heel slowly, you gradually empty the weight on that foot and automatically shift the weight to the other foot. Knee never passes the instep; otherwise, it puts too much stress or pressure on the knee and might cause knee problems. Thanks.
@AipingTaiChi
@AipingTaiChi Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I have to give this some thought. I do a lot of one leg high kicks in both open hand and weapons forms and I find that when I align my head in a straight line down my torso through my foot, I am very rooted and balance very easily. I guess I don't see how it's possible to balance on one leg in a kick or in a leg raise like Golden Rooster without aligning vertically from head to foot. Would be interested in seeing a video that shows alignment of shoulder to hip and not head to foot in a high kick. Thanks!
