The management would like to point out that the ball's used in this video where all raised in captivity and are use to being used for the amusement of the audience. And on a safety note there is no ball fondling or crushing in this video on or off camera. Never take ball's from the wild you dont know where they have been or if they are safe to handle. This week its 12 months and a bit ago that i built my upflow filter so we have a look back and go into what its been working like and any problems that it has. Its a big filter with 100L of K1 micro and is gravity feed its been working a treat but has a problem in that the K1 micro will rise out of the water over a corse of time as the media blocks with fines so cutting down how well so to the blue balls and the compression fix will it work.

Mate its working and i boiled it today for the first time no problem i could have wacked more K1 micro in it but there is 100L in there much more and it would not get to a boil the tank is only 135L plus the balls was cheap. Have a good weekend

Interesting idea with the balls. Never seen that done before. Definitely will hold the K! under the water for improved filtration. Looking forward to a follow up video to see how well the madification to the filtration is working. Cheers.

The balls will work Martin, as for the cleaning side you may get the odd one or two k1 escaping but that doesn't matter, good job done.

Great idea bud it should work if it was me I would have just chucked another bag or 2 of k1 in it then if it rose up there'd still be plenty under water cost more but more media means more mechanical and bio filtration 👍

Cleaned it today Terry it worked a treat still boils fine as the balls stay on top and now the water has to go through the full 100L of K1 micro. Have a good weekend mate

Silly question... couldn't you have just turned the out flow up the other way? That would have raised it near to the top. At times like this I really wish you could attach pictures to the comments so I could show you what I mean. The balls will work to a point I think but the K1 will work its way through them over time. It will be interesting to see how well they work.

The out is facing down already the K1 as you say might work its way up between the gaps in the balls over time but it still going to be far less loss of it than before and the balls have to go to the top as they float it had its firts boil over the weekend and looks to be working fine

A differant video very good sound and pics good as well my water always goes in the top first and found it gets the solids out with ease strange you used balls I have pingpong balls in mine which I found are to light.

Alan i gave it its first clean with the balls in today and its working a treat the water now has to come through the full 100L of K1 micro
