Good info for the newbies out there watching these videos, basics,basics basics, thats where Koi keeping begins and ends, we keep water not fish, if the waters good the fish will look after themselves.. i would definitely look at adding a vertical filter for your mechanical waste, look up vertical water flow vs horizontal water flow.

Nicholas Mills thanks you. Yes I will definitely look into that. My new pond Is going to have a little more going on with the filter system so I will need some good ideas. Thank you

Get a few potatoes. get them roots in some water. then hang the roots in the pond. amazing looking plants and great nitrate eaters. next to your waterfall on both sides is a amazing location. dont hang the potatoes in the water itself because the fish will eat it ;) only the roots.

I think those parameters also apply to any filteration systems. Similar media to Biohome media have been used quite successfuly in shower filtration units and shown to reduce Nitrate levels.

So i am guessing you havnt watched all my videos. I did cover this with my aquarium filtration. For a second I was getting confused because that was the video I thought you were referencing. Now I see you are referencing my first video on the Nitrogen Cycle.

I have a 20,000 liter outdoor pond, I’ve been using around 80-100kg of biohome ultra & biohome gravel in 2 bakki shower filters. Might be a little overkill but I’ve established a full cycle and my fish are happy and hungry year round.

No I have not seen all of your videos. I am new to watching youtube on keeping ponds.

Great job with this video my friend. Keeping nitrate down is what I struggle with. It seems my pond will turn into one nitrate pit if I don't do any water changes. People with plants, I wonder now much the plant itself take up nitrate vs how much nitrate that boggy planter itself convert nitrate into nitrogen gas. Sometimes I wonder If I'm more interested in the science than my water pigs lol.

KoiRun yes part of the fun with the hobby is the science. Since I have a fairly low fish load the plants help a lot. Now when my fish get bigger I believe itll be pointless to have plants. Thank you for the compliment on the video. I am getting a bit more comfortable doing them. I hope to keep the content relevant and enjoyable.

Hey I was wondering ,do the beneficial bacterias take more times in ponds ( cause water is typically colder ) than in tropical tanks ? I mean does the cold temperature of the water slow down the beneficial bacterias colonization in the filter and all over the pond internal surfaces ?
@thekoiaddiction47403 жыл бұрын
Yes water temp does slow it down. Usually takes off real well in the summer.
@salvolondon3 жыл бұрын
@@thekoiaddiction4740 thanks for the answer . So the Warner is the temperature the quicker the beneficial bacteria colonize the tank basically

Hi, can you not use porcelin based bio home filter to get rid of nitrate?
