I was graced with Band Maid literally 2 weeks ago and I’ve been infatuated with them since. I’m not a musician and I’m not even particularly a rock fan but, I love the sound of live instruments in music and the passion rock brings. I’ve watched a lot of “first time” reaction videos of Band Maid and so far, more often than not, they are severely underestimated for their ethnicity, their native language, gender and their band concept, mostly by balding, beer-bellied old men. The representation of Asian women in this genre and seeing these 5 adorable and painfully talented musicians prove themselves as just _better_ is a satisfying feeling!! I’m still taking my time with their *huge* discography of music but, so far their instrumentals and their songs No God and Different have been my favorites! Their bassist, Misa, and their drummer, Akane, have caught my attention the most so far but, Kanami (LG), Miku (RG) and Saiki (LV) are amazing in their own rights as well!

Band Maid is my absolute favorite of the Japanese girl bands. They are all really talented musicians and I especially like their bass player (Misa). She is certainly one of the best bassists of the young generation. She plays bass solos on a few of their songs which are really great. And the best thing is that they make their own songs. Some other girl bands have songs coming through the label...

As an old fogey who lost enthusiasm for Rock music and most other types of music for decades. I fell across the Maids about 4 or 5 years ago. They have in fact been together for 9, nearly 10 years. They never are anything but wonderful. Live or recording they are just the Band that saved Rock and music for me.

OH -- BAND-MAID videos to react to? All of them. You cannot go wrong. I love their whole discography. I have not geeked out over a band's whole discography since Led Zeppelin. Not only is BAND-MAID thee most prolific band in the world right now -- they keep producing albums -- like the late PRINCE (R.I.P.)! Even during the pandemic, they kept making music.

The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Saiki is like a dominatrix, she demands that the crowd respond to her commands. Saiki and MISA are the ones dressed in Gothic. Actually when the group began they all wore similar outfits, then as time went on Saiki and MISA turned Gothic on us. Most often MISA and Kanami are doing their solos at the same time. As usual Band-Maid is Jimmy Page approved!

My discovery of Band-Maid started me on a deep dive into Japanese rock/metal. I am sure that you have gotten plenty of suggestions for your next Band-Maid songs and, with Band-Maid, there are no bad suggestions. Prior to Band-Maid I had only listened to a band called Maximum the Hormone (great band) and I had heard of Baby Metal. After listening to many Japanese bands, I have a clear top five which are, in order of discovery, Band-Maid, Lovebites, Unlucky Morpheus, Nemophila and Asterism. A young band that would be my 6th is Hanabie. I should also mention the Wagakki Band who are extraordinary live. If you are an Amy Lee fan, there are at least a couple of videos of her performing with the Wagakki Band. You have listened to Nemophila but need to revisit them. I suggest their mv for the song Adabana. You also need to discover Lovebites with their live performance of Set The World On Fire. The link is below. Thanks for the reaction! Band-Maid hits that sweet spot between catchy hard rock and engaging instrumental & vocal lines, and there just really aren't many bands out there that can do that as consistently as they do. In fact, they are so consistent and their catalog is so deep that it's hard to know what to recommend. But a few: maybe Warning or Rinne for songs on the heavier side; Daydreaming or Endless Story for ballads; Unleash!!!!! or Influencer for more recent releases.

Loved these guys ever since stumbling on to their music video Thrill on YT. Also love Freedom but my absolute favorite is Onset.

Lovebites is my favorite all female power metal band they won the metal hammer golden god award for best new band in 2018 the award had previously been won by bands like Anthrax and Avenged Sevenfold.

From Japan Thank you for BAND-MAID's reaction. They are currently on a 14-venue US tour. They have just completed 5 venues. They play 18 songs for 2 hours, each time with a new setlist. It's a present for the fans who follow them. Also, it shows their great plethora of songs and playing ability. With a European tour probably next year, they are the band to watch now.

Grew up in the 1980's listening to bands like AC/DC, Quiet Riot, RATT, Motley Crue and these days my favorite rock group is, of course, Band Maid.

The best band this (albeit short) century. This is like their 25th to 30th best song IMHO. Many of their best tracks aren't even on their channel anymore. For live videos, I'd suggest Play and Onset off their channel (their newer live videos are without an audience due to COVID). For music videos, Warning, Blooming, Rinne and Non-Fiction Days.

Band Maid, Nemophila, Unlucky Morpheus, Lovebites , these bands are freakin great musicianship, and don't forget the classics, like X Japan, Luna Sea, L'Arc en Ciel, Japan rock is so underrated.

The trick with groups and bands that don't have english lyrics is to treat the vocals as just another instrument layering the entirety. You should check out some of the other japanese girl bands - there are some that leave the west and males in the dust. Oh, there's a Mongolian band, The Hu, I think you'll like too.

An assassin, a gorilla, an ice queen, a princess & a pigeon walk into a bar... I'll 2nd & 3rd those who called Band-Maid the best rock band on the planet. Band Maid covers many genres. There are many excellent all female bands coming out of Japan. Band Maid is my personal favorite but if you haven't seen them watch Holy War live by Lovebites. Power metal and you will be stunned.

You've got a long road ahead of you my girl. The sparkle in your eyes says it all. You are hooked. So many gems to react to. If i had my way, you would react to the double live video, 'Manners/ Black Hole', next. But any live song you choose will knock your little cotton socks off.

While Band-Maid is on the top of list for me, Japan has more female bands than any other by far. Please do more Band-Maid of course (Dice, Play, Different). But there's also Trident, BRATS, Shisamo, Lovebites and more. Also great female fronted bands, Polkadot Stingray, Glim Spanky.

Japan has a wealth of talented female musicians. Senri Kawaguchi, a young woman in her early twenties is one of the finest drummers in Japan. Once you see Band Maid, you WILL jump the rabbit hole of Band Maid and become (like many of us) Maidiacs. I usually say this band can melt your face and your heart in the same concert. Suggested songs "Daydreaming", a rock ballad with a killer guitar solo by Kanami Soto, their lead guitarist. The have just released an EP called Unleash. On it are several songs, but the two songs that stand out are "Unleash" an anime video, with live shots of the band playing, and "Influencer" an official music video, with social media commentary in it's lyrics. Also "From Now On" is an instrumental that really rocks. Another fun live video is Manners/ Black Hole, which shows some of their versatility. The song that will melt your heart is "About Us", a tribute to all Band Maid fans who could not see them because of the pandemic shutdowns across the globe.

Going to see them live October 28th at the Irving Plaza in NY. Only holds 1200 people so should be AMAZING !

I have been blown away at the level of skill and talent when it comes to all female bands in Rock and Metal music in Japan. When the terms Rock and Metal and female are synonymous when talking about the Japanese music scene, this an evolution. That a band like Band-Maid could make such a splash and get devoted fans in America and globally is incredible. So many talented and skilled women who could play Rock and Metal on the level of B/M in the US. Is there even one that can get a break and make an impact on the level of Band-Maid? I'm hoping so.

I usually start my day by listening to "Onset" on KZfaq. You definitely need to react to that. It's an instrumental they used to perform I think 3 years ago, live. They don't play it anymore during their concerts. But ya, if you have friends who need their faces melted, play that for them. Then tell them that it was performed by 4 Japanese girls. See their reaction after that too...
