LYRICS (English Translation):
Your first "hello"
The sound of a puzzle piece falling into place
I'm sure you don't recall
But that's fine with me
You gave me a shelter
Where your light scatters the shadows of my despair
Keep your innocent smile, you said
Even if my love is not returned
Don't care what number I am!
Ah, those are just lies
Mustn't look, mustn't know
It'll only give me pain
But I long to know
Can't resist
Even if it is just for a moment
Eroding my defenses
You knew, one word, and I couldn't resist any more
Thеn embraced me
Stеp outside and we seem just strangers
Only me longing
Like sweet candy melting away
Someday you'll disappear too
Leaving just your sly look, your smell
But that's fine with me
On my own at night
Where are you? What are you doing?
The more I think, the more I can't sleep
I shouldn't be selfish
But just wait patiently for you?
The answer is clear
I can't do it! I can't say it!
Really I know
Seizing my desire just can't be
Yet, as my fingertips touched you
I'm sure
I felt love
Don't think to apologize
Enchant me, I will look away
This incurable wound I crave, cuts deeper
I'm falling for you again
Lighters I don't use
Glasses in line
Even new clothes
Don't cry! All mementos of you
I just want to remain
In this dream with no end
Will I ever wake up?
Don't cry! Let me believe
Mustn't look, mustn't know
It'll only give me pain
But I long to know
I can't fight it
Even if it just this moment
Eroding my defenses
You knew, one word, and I couldn't resist any more
Then embraced me
Step outside, we seem just strangers
Leaving me longing
The puzzle is breaking
Memories aren't enough
I close my eyes and, again
Again, I'm falling for you

An absolute masterpiece in my humble opinion. The lyrics are about falling in love with a married man and all the lies and deceit that entails. There is also a live acoustic version, just Kanami on acoustic guitar and Saiki. Kanami also on backing vocals. In the rock version Saiki sings with anger and desperation, in the acoustic she sings with total despair. It's heartbreakingly beautiful. Same song, different feel. Find it if you can, you won't be disappointed!

You guys noticed something very important. Yes, your appreciation for this band DOES keep getting more and more because you keep hearing stuff you never heard before. You can only take in so much at once. I've heard this a million times, and yet this time I was marveling at Akane, listening how she'll be literally drumming along with Saiki's part for a measure and then swich on a dime to following Miku or MISA and then doing normal drumming patterns for like - 2 measures (ha). She's all over the place and it flies under the radar unless you consciously listen to it. The song construction is also sheer genius - the building and release of tension and all of the mechanisms they use to do that. MISA's bass slide into those huge pounding notes at the end for example giving it even more power. I mean shit, you could go on all day and keep noticing stuff. They're too good - too freaking good.

It is easy to forget that Band Maid member's technical prowess was not always this high. Every member has grown in ability since inception. From their own remarks, because of the increased technical demands of their music, and a personal desire to be better.

Miku didn’t even know how to play guitar when they started. Akane was hurting her back and had to retrain her basics with a different posture. Saiki had to relearn to sing after her polyps surgery. Their dedication is incredible.

Sometimes the more experienced musicians are the ones who are most evangelical about Band-Maid. You can have bombastic guitarists, technical drummers, provocative stage shows - but a band who can make you _feel_ is where it's at. This rock and roll version of the song has Saiki being almost sarcastic - "I'm sure you don't recall, but that's fine with me." It would be interesting for you to hear the acoustic version where the same line is expressed with utter heartbreak. What great musicians!

The song is about a woman who is having an affair with a married man and knows she will never be number 1 in his life. It's great to see how far Miku has come along, she could not play guitar when the band started but having Kanami as a teacher, wow, couldn't have a better one. If you want to find out more about the band you should watch the documentaries made by Ohrenje. Scroll through his videos and you will find one for each member and Miku's documentary is over three parts. Enjoy !!

There was another version but you can't find it on KZfaq any more. But you should check out the acoustic version. If you want to know all about backstories of the girl's, Orenji has done documentaries on each of them and how they came to be in BAND-MAID. Even if you don't want to react to them you should watch them. But yes, so are the girls, even before they joined the band, though many skills were picked up after, such and Akane's Double Pedals and MISA's 5 String and Miku's playing guitar. All that was learned on the fly! They are Musician's Musicians.

How did they come together? Well... Miku conceptualized a rock group in maid (cafe) outfits while listening to rock music on the radio as she drove to and from her job in a Tokyo maid cafe. Comes up with "The Gap" concept: aggressive rock music played by women in traditional maid attire [juxtaposition] (over the years, the traditional maid look has evolved into somewhat disparate images of that theme across the band membership). Miku approaches the management team at Platinum Passport, gets an agreement-in-principal to put together a band (each member of which is subject to Passport's approval) and to have said band brought into the fold on Passport's Gump record label; Miku reviews several demo tapes of guitarists (largely on KZfaq), is impressed by Kanami Tono's work and offers her the guitarist job. Fortunately, Kanami jumps at the chance and is on-board with the maid costume concept; Kanami tells Miku about a drummer that she has worked with -- Akane. Miku listens, likes what she hears, and offers Akane the drummer's job. Despite some initial misgivings regarding the maid's outfits and the anticipated all-female make-up of the group, Akane accepts; Akane tells Miku about a wonderful schoolmate of hers at the Tokyo School of Music (and a young woman that she has worked with professionally) -- Misa. Miku loves Misa's bass work (who wouldn't?). Misa has serious misgivings about the maid outfits, but agrees to join the band. The vocalist will be band-founder Miku (who plays no instrument). Passport approves of the line-up and a formal contract with Gump is signed. In the course of rehearsals and a bare handful of informal (as in "no monetary remuneration is involved") public appearances, Miku comes to doubt that she has the voice to successfully deliver all of the material that the band anticipates performing. She begins a search for a second vocalist. Passport suggests a young woman that they already have under contract -- Saiki (who, at that point, has but a modest background in singing, dancing and modeling). Miku likes what she hears, but fears that Saiki is ambivalent about joining the band. (Miku decides to tell Saiki about the maid-theme "later"). Miku proceeds to woo Saiki (later this will become Kanami's [voluntary] "job"). She is successful, and Saiki joins the group beginning with their second formal live performance. (Saiki is aghast at the maid costumes, and thinks about reversing her decision to join the band -- Miku and the others work on her, and she stays put. {However, Saiki finds out that Misa has similar misgivings about the maid outfits and "changes in costuming" are contemplated}. Looking for a "fuller" (and "heavier") sound, the band feels that Saiki or Miku must learn to play an instrument that neither has any real experience with: the rhythm guitar. Saiki balks, so Miku becomes the rhythm guitarist, occasional lead vocalist and sometimes complementary or backing vocalist. Kanami -- being the wonderful person that she is -- offers to become Miku's guitar teacher. Platinum supplies all of the (basic) music/lyrics, but the band begins a campaign for total control of their product -- and, eventually, wins.

And as for sound... it'll be the best hard rockin' sound you can imagine -- clear, discreet, powerful and full of energy and joyful vibes! This is my favorite Band-Maid song, even though it's not even my favorite live version of it. There is an earlier full band live version where Saiki's anger is obvious even though I don't understand Japanese. Coupled with an acoustic version with just Saiki and Kanami, where Saiki's heartbreak is again, obvious. Someone smarter than me described these two versions as an angry rant versus a remorseful lament. It seems to be about a women in a relationship with a married man who sees him with his wife. Thank you for this thoughtful reaction. Great job!

What you said about Japan having a high level of proficiency in the musicians is correct. But no matter the country of origin I've seen plenty of superly talented musicians not gel with each other and they get one album at most before they break up. But the Japanese people seem to be able to get together and form tighter relationships because ego isn't as big of an issue. Now I do know that some bands in Japan have broken up and they were excellent but nobody can have a perfect relationship with the perfect band forever. I just hope that love bites and band maid and the rest of the fantastic musicians have a very long run I think that having a long careers and low level of ego is the key to long-term success in Japan

Hi from France: Dear ASAF & ITAI, you have seen and heard this piece, but know that the entire concert (on DVD or Blu Ray) is of this level, quality of interpretation, production and post-production. This concert is simply extraordinary and I never tire of listening to it. I usually say that I was almost born at the same time as rock (I'm over 70). I had the chance to fall into this music like a pot of soup ("tombé dans la marmite" French expression) very young (very early 60s) and I saw the birth then disappearance or persistence of so many styles, genres: rock & roll, blues, jazz, jazz fusion, hard rock, punk, heavy metal [and its derivatives], cold wave, alternative rock, progressive or symphonic rock, krautrock and I forget a lot. Like you, I can say that I have accumulated quite a few references and it is true that, for ten years, Japan has never ceased to amaze me (étonné), surprise me and amaze me (émerveillé) in all these musical fields that we love. Whether in terms of creation, originality or virtuosity, the Japanese melting pot is incredible! And, which doesn't spoil the sauce ["ce qui ne gâte rien à la sauce" another Frenchy expression], it's an overwhelming majority of girls: Midori, Miyako, Kanami, Hal-ca... for the first but so many others, impossible to name them all, I will forget some anyway. Band Maid, Lovebites, Nemophila, Asterism, Sokoninaru, Ningen Isu, Aldious, Gacharic Spin, Hanabie... the list continues to grow and the level of these groups never weakens... Enjoy Japanese rock... 😉😍 Enjoy Maidiacs, Masters & Princesses!!! (Hoping Google trad doesn't betray my words.)

Three members started with piano lessons at 3 or 4 years old-Akane, Kanami and Misa. Prior to founding BAND-MAID Miku was in a group with two other girls singing songs which were K-pop oriented. Saiki was a singer-dancer and aspired to be like a very popular artist who performed that way. Kanami taught Miku how to play guitar who didn’t know how to play when she started the band. Many of Kanami’s songs were rejected by management. The first 2 songs allowed to be released, written and arranged entirely by the band, were Alone and Yolo. Watch some videos of Miku’s Magic Time and Saiki’s MC to get a feel of how well they get along with each other and their relationship with the audiences, aka, masters and princesses. Fans are referred to as Maidiacs. Yup, I’m one too.

I know that it is under the guidance of Kanami, but Mike's performance both vocally and her guitar work is fantastic. The history of the band very simply- In mid 2013 Miku decided that she wanted to perform "cool" (rock) music while wearing maid costume- she had been working in a Maid cafe in Tokyo. She found Kanami online performing as a singer songwriter. Kanami had already been using Akane as a backing drummer. Akane knew Misa from music school on Tokyo that they had both attended. Miku decided that her voice alone was not enough with this group, so started looking for a lead singer. Saiki was already signed to their agency and was suggested by their manager. There you have it- A band made in heaven- Thank God.
